Hi,
Long time ago I put the vbshout 2.0 mod on my forum https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=93097 . Last time this shoutbox was causing a lot of performance problems on my server, especially when we had about 100+ people online, so I had to remove it. Now I'm looking for some good subsititution. Could you recommand me some good solutions, as some of my users really loved that shout, and are begging me to put it back on the site.

cheers,
Marcin

Anything that frequently requests data off the server will hammer it.

I'm running cyb chat. I including my members love it, but man does it chew up some serious bandwidth!!!! My forum isn't very big(1100 members), but more and more are using the chat which is causing me headaches watching my bandwidth sky rocket. Very soon here I'm going to have to switch or at least look into running some type of java chat.

I use the pay version of Inferno VBShout (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=147346). It logs users out after a minute to try to minimize load, but users can still manually stay logged in. Fortunately, I rarely have to worry about more than 10 or so being in at the same time.

Sorry...New to this. Is there a mod or something to 'notify' members that someone posted something in shoutbox. eg. your looking at a thread an someone posts Hello to let you know they are on. I am running VB 3.7 and shoutbox 2.0

Thanks for your replies.

I don't know of any mod like that. But if you really want the extra server load, just put the shoutbox itself on those pages.

But be careful what you ask for. If people stop participating in the forums in favor of the shoutbox, you're in trouble.

Maybe one of the chatboxes in the poll below:

My site only has 35 members so far. But, You are right... even with these few members, I noticed people like the shoutbox. Thank you for your help.
