Favorite Smilies

This add-on will allow members to create their own favorite smilies list, which can be useful on boards with lots of smilies. If a member creates a list, it will be displayed in place of the normal smilie box.

Maximum number of smilies is based on the 'Smilie Menu Total Smilies' option in 'Message Posting Interface Options'.

I second that. My members love this add-on but the template updates with each new vBulletin release are a pain.

I would install this because I like the idea, but after I downloaded the file and saw how many edits there were I said forget it. Once that changes I will install it.

I've been using this hack since 3.6 and now with 3.7.3 and always worked fine.

Ok, editing templates suck a little when an upgrade comes but I've got used to, so it's not a big deal. In fact, editing templates hacks it's easier to make them run when you have other hacks that use same templates, automatic ones always have some conflicts to each other.

That's my opnion.

ok i just did a fresh install of this hack, going exactly by the directions, BUT there once installed everything seems fine till you try to SAVE your fav smilies.

Just realized that when i click on the fav smilies in my USERCP, and the page comes up with all my smilies to choose from, i can choose the ones that i want, and then at the bottom of the page is a blank box. If I type SAVE in that box, and hit enter, it saves.

Are you using the default vbulletin style? The mistake is most likely from a custom skin.

I just upgraded to 3.8, edited the files and it worked.
Today I upgraded to 3.8.1 and all the smilies were gone. I edited the functions_editor.php file twice and no smilies. Once I put the unedited file back, the smilies were back and the mod working perfectly. Go figure! LOL

This happened to me also, but I can't remember what I did to correct it! :erm: I remember deleting all of them, saving and going back to save again. What about rebuilding the styles in Update Counters.

This was Released: 29 Sep 2008 and is listed as being supported, yet the author has yet to answer any questions about it. Am I confused about what supported means?

Spada, I've been using this mod since 3.6.8 without any problems with Smiles in Quick Reply but I've been using another mod too that seems to make the difference for what you report.

Thank you, I had forgotten to do this the first time.

I think for me it had to do with how the functions_editor.php file was saved. I really don't know how to explain it, but I ran into the problem again while I was messing around and once I re-installed the first edited file it was working again.

Well this is working great except for one thing and I have done the edits to function_editor etc it doesnt show up in mu UserCP .. it does on Post reply and it works fine and you can set it up but can anyone tell me what I might have missed for it to not show in usercp please

Doesn't work. I rebuilt the bitfields, reinstalled the product chose and resaved the favorite smilies and nothing. BTW, the favorites do show but not the ones I chose.

It does work. You have to redo the file edits (and possibly the template edits) after evey upgrade because they are overwritten when you upload the new versions - see installation instructions.

i had the 3.6 version. It didnt work for 3.8 ... never noticed that a 3.7 update came out until yesterday so i thought I would try it out on the newer vb version. I tried it on 3.8.4 and it works great!

I've been using this mod from a long time, since 3.6 something ....always working fantastic, just some minor changes that people recomended here, even now with 3.8.4 PL1 still rocking.

This stopped working on my 3.8.4, didn't notice when exactly- nothing new on my end that caused it that I can figure... will try reinstalling.

Edit - My bad, must have been out since the last upgrade... just had to redo the edits in function_editor.php.

Anyone notice the link to "More" smilies is gone on the Reply page after upgrading to 3.8.5? When I put the original functions_editor.php file back it works, with the edits it doesn't... I used a text file comparison to 'merge' the old changes into the new 3.8.5 version of the file, maybe that was the problem... I'll remake the edits manually to confirm.

EDIT- Nevermind... When I redid the edits manually it worked again... weird... first time I've had a problem 'merging' in changes with a text file comparison software.

I wish you had spelled out the steps you took to fix this... I am going to go check on my functions_editor.php file now. Wish me luck.

All I did was remake the edits in the file again from the original instructions, like I was doing a new install. Upgrading over-writes the php file so you need to remake all changes.

Looking at the code there is no way this could work for 4.x - there are a number of template edits and the code is vey different.
