View Full Version : Simple user profile URL & Blog question

I have one installation of VB and am ready to purchase another. two questions I have:

1. Using Vbulletin, is there a built in or third party method to do simple URL's for a user's profile page? In other words, rather than having to promote:

http://www.domain.com/forums/member.php?u=2

as your profile page, you could promote:

http://www.domain.com/ErikBoles

as your profile page. I can do it easy enough with htaccess, but I don't want to have to do that for every user obviously, so a bolt on would be nice.

2. Is the VB blog add-on the best one or are there others that users prefer like Zoinks LOCAL?

I love VB for the most part, but basically what I am looking for is a place where a user can create a pretty in-depth profile they can call their "homepage" that lists stuff about them, their latest blog post, pictures they have uploaded, friends they have made, yadda yadda yadda.

thanks for reading this long post and thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.

Erik

1. I saw an article describing how to do this (here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=165986)), but it does not rewrite existing URLs. I have created my own modification which redirects old "member.php"-style URLs to the new username type URL and it works well, I may release it here.

2. It depends on your needs - have a look at the vBBlogs out there, and then maybe install Zoints Local on your own test board, and have a look which one you think suits you better.

Thanks Dismounted for the quick reply. I will do some digging around.

I'm currently doing that with one of my websites using vBSEO.
I'm pretty sure there's a another alternative instead of using vBSEO

It's actually very easy. A simple .htaccess rule will allow you to access the profile, while a plugin will handle redirecting old URLs.
