Hi,
I am interested in importing from ubbthreads to VB however it is important that I preserve our display names.
I understand that these can be copied into an extra field, but I am not sure how to alter the import script. And then display them against posts.
Can anyone point me in the right direction.
Without this I can't import :(
Many thanks.

Is the display name shown as the "username" (ie. the user is recognised by this in "public"), but there is a "login name", which is known to the user?

Indeed - all the users have a login name for use with their password.
They then have a display name, which they can change subject to admin's approval. Whilst I appreciate this will no longer happen, the display name is important as this is how they are known on the forum. Whether this optional field is available to users to change, I do not know.
If I make the display name the login name as per impex then 95% of our users will not be able to login as they will get confused and go elsewhere (poor things!)
I am just trying to make it as painless as possible.

The easiest way (IMO), would be to use the display name as the "username" and then change the login process to use the "login name" (custom field) instead of using the username to authenticate.

okay - but how do I change impex for this to import this?
And then modify VB?
Any pointers or assistance would be appreciated.

Your best bet is to ask over at vbulletin.com in their impex forum

Thanks.
However I asked over there and was told to ask here :(

how do I change impex for this to import this?
This should be fairly easy, as easy as adding a single line in the importer script. Since this is in Pre-Sales (and you are licensed), please post a thread in one of the appropriate areas, and reference this thread.
And then modify VB?
Again, this should be fairly easy, and again only changing one part of a single line.
