Someone asked about the infractions system we use - we have three levels that result in an automatic suspension or ban ;

60 points = Suspended For 7 Days.
80 points = Suspended For 14 Days.
100 points = Perm Banned.

The most common infractions are ;

Senseless Posting : 10 points.
General Behaviour Warning : 20 points.
Spamming (Licensed Members, Minor Offence) : 20 points.
Flaming & Trolling : 30 points.
Spamming (Licensed Members) : 30 points.
Posting Abusive/Offensive Material : 40 points.
Posting Copyright Material : 40 points.

10 and 20 point infractions expire after 30 days, the rest after 45 days.

Unlicesnsed Spammers get an instant ban (100 Points, No mercy)

The lower value infractions (10,20 points) can be issued as a warning (0 points) at the discretion of the staff member.

Of course, the 99% of members who behave themselves will never need to know this information - the rest will find out we have little time for members who cannot follow rules. You will get infractions, and suspended/banned if you get enough. Simple as that.

I'm scared to say this but that "senseless posting" is a pretty broad topic.

I got an infraction for it once and thought it was a bit subjective. But it does work because I don't post anything on the board now unless it is directly related to the conversation (as I hope this is)

If not, I guess I'll get one, but it's been a while.

A related question paul. Who polices the staff? Let's say... abusement of privelages (example: A staff member removes 2 vaild submissions that where there for months) And removed them because they go peeved off because a member reported threads that shouldn't have been in a certain area. What kind of infraction (slap to the wrists) would a staff member recieve for these kind of actions or are these warmly welcome and encouraged throughout staffland?

You got your answer in another thread. If you cant be bothered to PM the person, as they twice asked you to, then no one else can help you. It wont be discussed in this thread.

Your the admin paul, I'm asking you a plain and simple question not some site cordinator. Is the question I asked encouraged?

It shows an accurate history of all infractions received. Expired infractions do not count towards the total 60 / 80 / 100 ban limit.

Not all of us have ever used the infraction system. I'm kinda curious myself how it works, but I don't know that I need to know so badly that I'll start spamming this site just to see.

Haha. As my community is small and drame-free, I didn't see a use for it.

When you were a "S" on CF.com, the infraction system was not implemented... i activated it on april while the mega upgrade... so it's sure you were unaware of its function.. lol

Some of the infractions are a joke. I received one for spamming, yet I'm a licensed customer and own a vBulletin board, it's hardly spamming. Others' are general behaviour which are just pointless for me, I'm hardly some robot who goes posting sh!t.

I bet half the 'active' members' have infractions here. No wonder members' are leaving.

All the moderators are good for are closing threads and dishing out infractions. :D

Just because one owns his own vBulletin board does not mean he is unable to spam, quite the contrary: it gives you something to spam about.

Also, the definition of a moderator is to moderate content and ensure that it remains within the policies of the community...so "closing threads and dishing out fractions" and other moderating tasks is a moderator's primary responsibility.

However, ff anyone feels that an infraction giving to them is unfair, unjust, or a "joke", please escalate your issue to an Administrator via PM and it will be carefully evaluated.

until it's an Admin who is giving you an infraction... in that case, you can escalate your house and claim on the roof that you've been infracted ...

* nexialys see a funny image in his head.... ohhhh

No, there are multiple Administrators for a reason. If an infraction is given (by any staff) and thought not fair, it will be discussed openly by the Admins and usually settled by majority decision.

Moderators are not police officers. ;)

Unbelievable how this place is moderated. Ever wondered why a lot of people have left?

Every owner runs their board differently, sometimes you just need people to do these tasks. I wouldn't have said vBulletin.org is a "community" based site anyway, its here for a purpose which is to discuss the modification of vBulletin (in my opinion) I guess the community element arises from members that visit the forum regularily.

as little yellow bird said, vB.org is not a community-based forum, you do not have to interact to be member here...

i personally think more... if this site have to keep its sole purpose of providing support for admins and coders, there is no need for some community-like forums... there is no need to talk about cars and politics here, there is already tons of sites that are doing it quite well...

I wouldn't go about saying "community" so much, it slips off the average person tongue all to easily. Maybe a loong long time ago in a galaxy far away. Maybe. And to correct you KK coders/designers & members that tolerate each other.

The truth may be hard and harsh at times but it's the truth when it comes down to the crunch.

To me Coders & Designers come from the same breed. So when I personally refer to coders, it refers to designers also.

@Shazz, i suppose vb.com have less control to apply to members because it is not a community, it's a forum for support... it is more focussing on service than anything else, so i suppose the rules are narrowed...

Are you this talkative in real life nexy? :p

A suggestion. Why not introduce a system for members who have accumulated a lot of infractions points and allow them to trade them in for "good behaviour points"? I'm betting the system would entice those members who were obnoxious in days gone past to become upstanding members of the forum.

I'm not sure whether nexy is up to the task with his Catch-up to marcos amazing post count. I have an idea, give marco the task of "mr baker, cookie maker"? Marco, and a apron with a mute to guide him on creating the best ever cookies that vb.org has ever seen.
