Do you have $style[css] in your header template? It appears it's just not catching the script. Try placing it manually in your headinclude if anything it's in the g_forumhome_tabs_script template : )

I think you got it ; ) There's an option in the admincp to select whether you have a custom or default style based on the common coding used to keep everything automatic still :)

I have installed your mod now and it`s really great. Maybe you can pick up the e-steki idea and allow another set of tabs for "what`s going on", "stats" etc. Don`t know if that`s possible.

To get rid of the header information on a style from above the tabs and into the tabs instead:

Delete the following from the forumhome template:

Keep in mind you can mess with the option to add the forum table wrap to mess with which styles it'll automatically update well for you, and for the others you can make the edit above if you'd like.

Hi,

I had a closer look at the mod and will post now a summary of my understanding of how the mod works and how it can be improved:


It adds a div element with the id "forumhome_tabs_switch_content" which will contain the first category of forums on your forum-startpage. This category will be displayed initially / by default when loading the page.
Then all categories including their forums are displayed again and wrapped with a div element with the id "forumhome_tabs_$forum[forumid]". This means the first category will be included twice in the generated HTML-Source code which unnecessarily increases the size and loading time of the start page. It`s also confusing for visually impaired people if their screen-readers read the first cat twice.
The categories also get a "display: none" inline style so they don`t appear but instead work as content-containers for the little java-script that pulls the content in these containers to the "forumhome_tabs_switch_content" when clicking on a tab.
To make the containers invisible via an inline style has the drawback of making all categories and their forums inaccessible for users that have deactivated JavaScript.


So the three major disadvantages are:

repetition of the first category and all it`s forums
non-functional links in the tabs when JS is turned off
all categories and their forums are hidden and unaccessible when JS is turned off


To get rid of the disadvantages you should change the tab-links from
<a href="#" onclick
to
<a href="#forumhome_tabs_$forum[forumid]" onclick
in template: g_forumhome_tabs_headbits
so they work as link to local anchors when JS is not available.

To make the local anchors work, you should give the div-content-containers a name attribute with the same value as their id:

in template g_forumhome_tabs_forumbit_1

That was the easy part. I don`t have enough knowledge and experience yet to make the next steps myself but it shouldn`t be too difficult for someone who knows a bit of DOM-scripting.

Basically you should remove the style="display: none;" for the content containers and stop the repitition of the first category. Then you should give the first category a different id then the other categories (might be there already) and hide all the other categories via DOM-script instead with inline style.

After that you would have to change the JS-function that gets called by the tab links so it switches the desired category visible and all others invisible.

I`ll try to solve it myself and find the necessary DOM-script snippets. But I hope there are few devs here who can help.

What i miss really hard is a Option to select which Forum ID?s should be Tabbed.

I only want to tab the 4 largest Areas of my Forum and not my News-, Annonuncement- and Teamforum. The small ones should allways be present.

So I think it would be a very good idea to somehow remember which was the active tab when leaving the startpage or when opening any tab other than the default-tab. Maybe via cookie?

The should appear like they did before - without any Changes. So if Forum 1 and Forum 3 is not tabbed but Forum 2 it should appear still between 1 and 3.

One Example of a Board with 4 Forums where Forum 2 is choosen by User:

Forum 1 - not tabbed is visible

Forum 2 - tabbed and choosen is visible

Forum 3 - not tabbed is visible

Forum 4 - tabbed but not choosen is not visible


Another Example of a Board with 4 Forums where Forum 4 is choosen by User:

Forum 1 - not tabbed is visible

Forum 2 - tabbed but not choosen is not visible

And by the Way - to make this very clear - there should be a Option to enter a Colourcode for the Buttons of the Tabs at Forumhome.

And please don?t forget a Option in UserCP?s to deactivate this Hack if they want or add a Button to the Tabs to deactivate for the whole Session.

now... remember you may want to see which looks better... either in the headbits it would say thead or tcat and and tabs_head... that would be the opposite.... you also have to change the colspan in forumhome_tabs_head to how many categories you have...or else it will throw it off....gio i hope you dont mind showin this....

why? I don`t expect him or anybody else to like my suggestions or find them as useful as I do. I`m just sharing the knowledge that I gain and the "improvements" I make to his code. I`m not criticizing him, I`m glad that he shared his knowledge and mod.

But if he decides to pick up any of the things I mention I`m fine with that. Why should I stop sharing when others can benefit from it? Isn`t this how a community works?

Or do you think it would be better if I open a seperate thread for this? I would if gio~logist prefers that but I don`t see the point in creating different threads for the same topic.

1. I am communicating now for a week with him.

2. His whole Communication sounds confused and seems like he is not knowing what he is doing.

3. Every "Fix" he has released now in the Premium Section brings another Bug on and on and on .....

This Thing is in Alpha-Stage and he has released it as Stable.

If he will ever bring this to Stable he can be sure i will pay him - but i am not willing to pay as his personal Alpha-Tester.

His initial concern was regarding how the product automatically updated the templates. And when he notified me that the instructions i gave him weren't enough, i updated the script's automated system to include it ;)

Communication has commenced with redlabour, and we're getting things sorted out on that end.

There we a few conflicting issues with redlabour and how the tabs were displayed on the default vb skin, which was fixed in the previous version. Other than that, there's a few extra features he's looking for which i'm more than happy to look into for further addition to the product .

Redlabour, i have been extremely patient with you. However, i have told you a countless amount of times to stop referring to the product as "Alpha" because it doesn't have your idea of a few "logical" features.

why? I don`t expect him or anybody else to like my suggestions or find them as useful as I do. I`m just sharing the knowledge that I gain and the "improvements" I make to his code. I`m not criticizing him, I`m glad that he shared his knowledge and mod.

But if he decides to pick up any of the things I mention I`m fine with that. Why should I stop sharing when others can benefit from it? Isn`t this how a community works?

Or do you think it would be better if I open a seperate thread for this? I would if gio~logist prefers that but I don`t see the point in creating different threads for the same topic.

Sacha, i definitely appreciate you stepping in to lend a helping hand. Absolutely no issues against that. The only time things like that can get iffy is if you are trying to re-release or publish one of my modifications as your own or in means of seeking profits. However, you did it solely out of a good heart, which is never a bad thing. :up:


I prefer the Premium Version by Gio, because I like the hover option and it does not have this loading sequence. The Version sinucello posted is AJAX based Tabs.

After another not working Fix in Version 1.0.3 PREMIUM for the simple thing of getting a Link to deactivate the Tab-View in the Quick Links Section i have clicked uninstall now and would get the Refund from Gio like discussed with him before.

Maybe i buy it if it is ready and stable.

By the Way - i have trustfully closed the PayPal Dispute now - i hope i can still trust you and will get the refund immediately.

I will watch your Activity and if all is fixed and completed i think over another Buy of this Product.

Update:

Who wonders - now he is no longer willing to give me the Refund he has talked about some Mails before.

Everybody should be warnend and make them a own Opinion about this Teen and his work - nobody should say to me they have not be warnend. And Attention - he is very fast in deleting Supportquestions in his Threads (which are private since 2 Days!!!) if they show clearly that he does not know what he is doing.

Maybe in some Years - if he is not longer a Teenager - he is able to create logical and structured Solutions to his Customers - but at this Time with 17 Years of Age it seems he is a bit overstrained.

This Lesson was truly worth the 10 EUR i did not get back now after nearly one Week of endless PMs and Mails without any Effects and Bugfixings.

Sorry - but i have buyed a lot of Hacks before for my Community - i never get any Disaster like it was this Time and i dont want more Users to get this Lession ....

There honestly (and i say this with total understanding of the situation) is no call for a refund, especially after the support you've been given. I just added another bit to the product and you're the only one with an issue (meaning there's probably a conflicting mod on your website, or you have your options set wrong). Did you overwrite the product in the new zip? Are you sure the zip you downloaded is the new one? Also, you initially paid $14.99 for this script when it didn't have that feature, and it definitely was not listed before. This is listed as virtual goods, like a member said to you earlier. I will not be able to issue you a refund as the product cannot be returned anyways, not to mention there's no reason for one. If you'd like, i will issue you the zip that you initially paid for simply with the fix i made to adjust to your style, which is what you initially paid for.

1: TCAT-Button(Collapse) and the button for new posts disappears, when you klick to open another TAB, which opens well, but these two things disappear suddenly.

2: The bar at the top of the forums, wich contains "Forum; Last Post; Topics; Posts" is at the top of the tabs, instead of at the top of the opened category tabs.

What do you mean as far as a pic? The forum icons, or just a custom picture? You can always edit the template accordingly to include pics ;)

Nice and easy AddOn! You can make it even better with this little Change:
Actual every Tab has the Name of the Top Forum and also encludes only this Forum.

Suggestion: Do not display this Top Forum inside the Tab, but display the Subforums! So you can manage multiple Forums in one Tab and in every of them again the Subforums.

Well i have to say that my vbulletin forum is very modded. I made lots of own modifikcations and some of regular mods dont work now heh... But well i need to say after i imported this product i started to clean up my forum from unncesary forums and other threads... No i got all nice packed in 3 tabs :) Good work and it work fine on 3.7.2 and on 3.8 also.

Quick instalation and really god effects. Good job. i am lurking for other yours quick mods:)
