changing the matting

how do you change the matting so that the icons you make don't have white around them and instead have black... or nothing

In Photoshop the option is in Save for Web window to on top right u will find Matt options for GIF. you can select whatever color ur want or keep it None and check transparency box, it will have a jagged corners though then.
