View Full Version : Pruning? Archiving? How do I reduce the size of my data without losing content?

I don't really think I want to prune any of the posts on my site, since that would mean loss of post counts and threads that my members enjoy re-reading years later. Not to mention losing content from my site.
Is there anyway to truly archive my old threads so that they're still readable in archive mode, but no longer exist in the post table of my database?
We have over 625,000 posts, and it's starting to cause some db instability.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

You may want to seek optimization help then, 625,000 threads is nothing and a pretty small number compared to what vBulletin can hold.
Or if need be, you may need to upgrade your server/hosting plan, but you shouldn't have to archive or delete anything at 625,000 posts

FRDS is right. I have a bit over 900,000 posts on my site and we have no problems with searching. I do run our forums on two servers though - one webserver and one database server. I have also posted over at vb.com in their Server Configuration (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=14) forum to get my servers optimized for my site.

Thanks to both of you for the input. Our host was telling us we needed to reduce the size of that table in order to stop our database errors, but I'll post a thread over on vbulletin.com to see if there's something we can do with our configs.
