Limit number of threads guests can view

I recall seeing somewhere a mod, or hack, that prevents a guest from viewing X amount of threads.

Basically, if you set a limit of say 40 threads/posts, once the guest has viewed those posts, they get a message stating they need to register.

Can anyone enlighten me as to where I saw this, or was i dreaming lol
