View Full Version : Moderators Functions - Hard Delete (physical delete) By User Group

This product allows you to allow/disallow hard deleting by user group. Currently, you have to edit each user to attain this, whereas this product assigns the privilege by user group.
To install, upload the files, and install product file. All user groups (including administrators) will default to NOT having the permission to hard delete, so after installation, modify the user groups you wish to have this permission.
This product was developed for Andy R (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/member.php?u=7590) from Social Knowledge (http://www.socialknowledge.net/) and released here for others to enjoy.

I dunno.. People have been asking for it for a long time, and I was just tasked to do it. Considering the IF condition is already there, it would not be that hard for them to do it. As you can see, this plugin requires no template edits.

You forgot the most important in case of Uninstalling...
<uninstallcode><![CDATA[$db->query_write("ALTER TABLE " . TABLE_PREFIX . "usergroup DROP skhardmodpermissions");]]></uninstallcode>
Just in case someone has uninstalled your hack and is trying after to reinstall what results in getting the dreaded DB Error. Just a side note ;) Great hack and good idea by the way - Installed :) Thank you!

Doesn't this only hide that option? I guess you can still physically delete if you know the URL, and when I manage a soft deleted thread I'm still able to change its deletion status to physically deleted.

It does only hide it yes.. If you are having trouble with your mod's doing that, time for new mods.. :)
then you can do only to create a new admins/supermods usergroup who are not able to hard delete.

This is really great, i used to have to edit the permissions of each new member of staff before. This makes it so much easier thanks!
Thank you, it's really great work.

Installed, and a good addition to VB forums.
But yes, definetly add this to the product install xml, or you will end up having to go into phpmyadmin to fix the incomplete uninstall.

Just wondering if this hack enables the user to hard delete only their own things... or does this give them the ability to hard delete any post or comment ?

No, it only gives them the ability to hard delete or not.

I trust my moderators, but if someone manage to get access to their account it is possible that this person will physically delete all posts.

That is the least of your problems if they gain access to the account.

After I installed this hack, admins were no longer able to hard delete threads, even though the "Can Hard Delete" setting was set to "Yes" in the Admin user group. Any fix for this?
I'm running 3.8.4 PL1.

In vBulletin 4 it kind of is. I only allow moderators to delete and in vB4 I can forbid any moderator from hard-deleting and allow soft-deleting only.
