Preloader serves as a quick-loading mini-movie that entertains your visitor while they wait for the main page. It allows you to display an animation during your website is loading.

I haven't come across one before but I would certainly find it very annoying. Unless you site takes 3-4 seconds to load I wouldn't bother, otherwise I would think about reducing the amount of stuff on your main page.

Ya, what he said. There's no load time for vbulletin. Heck, if you keep a custom 'new posts' bookmark you rarely see any main page anyway.
