You can use whatever you want, just change it in the StyleVars. I have not had any problem switching between gif jpg and png.

Yes, I switch a lot. Heh.

If you use .png images which have a transparent background, Internet Explorer 6 users will have problems viewing these images. To solve this problem I use this javascript which works well: http://24ways.org/2007/supersleight-transparent-png-in-ie6

My logo is defined in the css of my site, so I avoid the problem by replacing it with a gif image on a stylesheet written just for suckernet exploder.

If the .png logo will only be present on one style and placed upon one background colour then I would use the matte colour backgroud option, the same colour matte that will be placed upon that specific background. I would fail to see the point in giving the logo full transparency only to add acess code so internet explorer 6 uses can view it properly when you can use the matte option and ie6 users will be able to view it without any excess code being added.

Just another option for you to consider (which in my books) is the easier more efficient method.
