View Full Version : Moderators Functions - FractalizeR: Show items, awaiting moderation in notifications area
FractalizeR
07-24-2008, 10:00 PM
What does it do?
This hack shows all items, that require moderation in a notifications area. Items are grouped by type:
Threads
Posts
Group messages
Visitor messages
Picture comments
Album pictures
Users
Calendar events
Clicking on a group redirects you to a moderation panel for that type of items.
You can also restrict, what usergroups can see notifications and what items you want to appear in notifications
Russian localization included.
How to install?
1. Install *.xml file via Admin Control Panel (Product management)
Files description:
product-fr_notifymoditems.xml - main product XML. English localization included.
vbulletin-language-ru.xml - russian localization. Import as a language overwritting russian.
Version history:
1.1.3 (07-08-2008)
VBDynamics (and several other addons) compatibility ensured (aproape)
Non-standard admincp and modcp directories are now respected (aproape)
1.1.2 (07-08-2008)
Links bug fixed in new features
1.1.1 (07-08-2008)
Path bug fixed.
1.1 (06-08-2008)
Added moderation items for calendar events, users and album pictures. Each item requires one (but very quick) additional query
Added an option to show/hide empty notifications (with 0 items).
Added an option to show only selected notifications

Your installation instructions describe unpacking and uploading into forum root - but all you posted was an .xml file. :p
I assume this was a typing error?
I'mma try this mod out :D It sounds very good.
Thank you!

Can you add option to display if count(s) are zero? Your example (image) doesn't show posts, only threads. It would be nice to have at least the option of seeing all of the types displayed so we know it's correctly installed.

Is that really needed? Just go to your offtopic, select any post, make Unapprove on them and rerfresh page.

There are five groups, not two. If you will have all zeros displayed, Notifications area will be spammed. I am going to add some more items like users, awaiting moderation for example and showing zeros will spam notifications even more.

For some reason, they all don't show up in "Your Notifications" unless the number is greater than 0.
For example, when I click "Your Notifications" I see "Private Messages - 0", "Unread Visitor Messages - 0", etc. however there is not "Moderated Threads", etc.
Is this normal behavior?

Sounds optimal to me. Why show a line of text to announce that there is nothing to announce?

djbaxter
07-26-2008, 05:49 PM
Sounds optimal to me. Why show a line of text to announce that there is nothing to announce?
For the same reason the standard vBulletin notifications will say, for example, "Incoming visitor messages: 0", or when there are no notifications at all, "Private Messages: Unread 0".
Alfa1
07-26-2008, 06:07 PM
Yes, I know that they do that and I was happy when a mod was shared on vb.org to correct that. You write "for the same reason, the standard vbulletin notifications say..." Could you please tell me what that reason that is? Because so far the standard notifications for zero messages, etc. do not make sense to me.
djbaxter
07-26-2008, 06:12 PM
I suppose it's a matter of preference or familiarity. As a forum owner-administrator, I like being able, at a glance, to see that nothing needs my attention.
And from a psychological or human enginerring perspective, that information is conveyed more effectively and clearly by a notation saying "No messages" than the mere absence of a note saying there are messages.

Hey there,
Just a quick note - this mod breaks the vbAdvanced Dynamics add-on - article module.
After enabling the mod, any article someone wants to see gives a bad/fatal MySQL error message because the variable entryid is not populated [actually it is emptied].
This created some huge problems on our site which is mainly article-driven and caused headaches to find the exact issue.
Disabling this mod has solved the problem right away.
Is there any way to fix this? Thanks..
Cheers,
aproape

I feel the same way as djbaxter. It's a great mod, and I'm definitely adding it, but I would really love is there was an option like. "Display notifications if = 0" It would be a simply yes/no thing. It really wouldn't hurt anyone, since if you like seeing 0, you can, don't want to, just choose no. But anyway, great mod.
Koroku
07-29-2008, 01:39 AM
Why not, instead of having a huge list of "___ needing Moderation: 0" just have one that appears when all = 0 that says "Items Needing Moderation: 0"
That way everyone is happy :)
*will install this later tonight*

I think your update makes this hack 500% better.
However, now that I've upgraded, all of the links lead to my homepage rather than to the page to moderate the items.
Any idea as to why this is happening?
Also, can you attach the original version so I can downgrade until my current issue is resolved (I didn't save the original .xml file)

I now have 2 bugs
1. I cannot clear the Thread Notification=1, even though the moderation table is EMPTY (see my post above)
2. I have now enabled Calendar Moderations & although it correctly shows one event awaiting moderation, the link in the pull-down is not correct - it just goes go to "myforum.com/1" wheras as post notofications go to "myforum.com/moderation.php?do=viewposts&type=moderated"
The same happens for Users & Album pictures.
There doesn't seem to be an option on the User Profile to moderate events - is that right? Do you have to go to modcp? - it looks like the link should be to "myforum.com/modcp/moderate.php?do=events"
Please can you look. Thanks.

dude, 4 queries onto the forumhome?
Queries are executed only for members of usergroups you selected. I hope, you don't have 1000 admins/mods per forum?
If you have any ideas on how to achieve the same goal in smaller amount of queries, you are welcome to post them here.

Hi there,
Where I can get this hack?
vbadvanced.com
The product is called Dynamics [we bought it].
---
Two more details on our testing of your product:
1. We do not have the admincp folder - it was renamed for security reasons. It seems that you have hardcoded that path into your script.. please use the VB variable/path so it can work with custom-defined admin folders.
2. If we leave as default - all notifications unchecked [latest version - 1.2.2] - the script does _not_ break the 'entryid=' variable.
If we select only the album pictures moderation notification, again - script does not break the entryid
However - if we select any of the following: threads, posts or visitor messages [alone or together] - the script breaks again Dynamics.
Thought the above might help.
Cheers,
aproape

Note that vbulletin blog 2 has been released and the function domain.com/forum/blog.php?type=moderated&do=list does no longer work. There must be something that replaces it, but i have not found it yet.

hi
i want to show the correct number of "awaiting moderation" for each moderator
in this time it shows all "awaiting moderations" for all moderators but the moderator does not access to approve them :down:
for example :
moderator1 see = 15 awaiting moderation in own forums
moderator2 see = 7 awaiting moderation in own forums

I have been testing this to see if it meets my needs or not for thread moderation, but I am curious if this only checks a users primary group? It works for me as an administrator, but I have a custom group that I have some users in as secondary groups, and it's not showing up for them.

in my forum :
No Threads awaiting moderation
No Posts awaiting moderation
but show 69 Threads and Posts in notifications area awaiting moderation :(
plz help me ...
Great idea
$config['Misc']['modcpdir'] should be $vbulletin->config['Misc']['modcpdir']

The link to 'visitor messages awaiting moderation' does not work, as it points to:
forum//moderate.php?do=messages

It's only showing up in one style; not the default style but a testing style. That style has a single navbar, not a double navbar if that means anything. TIA.
On Edit: VB 3.8 RC2.

Yes just upgraded to 3.8.1 and moderate users wont work now, links to modcp and admincp seems missing makes it unusable for now, hopefully an updated version will be released.

I did have a play and changed the following lines it seems to work, but not 100% on coding yet so maybe a temp fix till updated mod released.
in xml i changed:
'user' => array(
'link' => $vbulletin->options['bburl'] . '/' . $config['Misc']['admincpdir'] . '/user.php?do=moderate',
'count' => 0
to this:
'user' => array(
'link' => $vbulletin->options['bburl'] . $config['Misc'] . '/admincp/user.php?do=moderate',
'count' => 0
Seems to work but like i said my coding not 100% and maybe not a good way to fix.
This is a very good mod so i hope its updated.
EDIT: forgot to add ive only allowed this for admin as it sends mods link not working.

You may want to remove
$config['Misc'] .
That same trick also works for moderated profile messages.
However, this send you to the modCP, which is et up really bad, in contrast to /forum/moderation.php?do=viewvms&type=moderated
So I suggest this to get VM moderation working:
'visitormessage' => array(
'link' => $vbulletin->options['bburl'] . '/moderation.php?do=viewvms&type=moderated',
'count' => 0
),

The number of moderated Group discussions is added to the number of moderated group posts. But the notification menu does not show group discussions, so there is no way to go from the menu to the Group discussion moderation screen. Please add this function.
Please add this for blogs.

That may be true, but what I meant was that some moderation links don't work. E.g. the Visitor Messages Awaiting Moderation doesn't work for me but most of the others do.

Fractalizer; could you please consider implementing the above functions? I'll donate 25 bones if you would take that as a motivation.

Seems to work on 3.8, but when even when I have no moderated threads, it shows that there are 4.
I've confirmed this both for 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 and checked if no old threads on our forum needed moderation (which they didn't). Any ideas?

There's a SQL command for that and I can't think of what it is. Sorry.

Does this work OK on 3.8.7? Have just upgraded from 3.7.2 where it was working fine. Have not got plugins disabled while I find out which will work/need upgrading. Thanks.

Hello,
This mod has been working perfectly for me vb 3.8.7. Today a member posted a thread, another member whose posts are moderated replied. I deleted the thread without approving or deleting the second post. Since then I still have the "1" notification for that moderated post, visible and I can't get it cleared. Uninstalling and reinstalling the mod didn't get rid of the notification. Any suggestions?

Solution was to delete an entry that was still present in the database, moderation table.
