Hello,

I am going to have coded another modification on my board, and it's going to be only on the Who's Online Page. I need to make a new column and shorten another one, I just need like 50 pixels or maybe only 40 pixels wide. So I'm considering thinning the "what are they doing" line or excuse me, Location.

Yet while I sat there looking at everything that is there I noticed the time and the Last Activity column. I sat there perplexed thinking...why is this here? I mean who really cares what the Last Activity time is?

Ladies and Gentlemen as fellow forum owners can you please explain to me any value whatsoever that time information does for you?

I mean, if someone sits on a page so long it's going to time them out and log them off, and if they are browsing and posting, then who cares?

Attached image so you know what i'm talking about.

I'm with you, it's of no value to me. Like you said, as long as they're there, browsing, reading, posting, who cares!:D

actually it would help in the buddy list... but funny thing: it is not present in the buddy list.

If you have an educational-company-business forum is primordial ;)

Why? What difference does it make?

Then look at there profile. This is the worst response so far.

How could that even tell you, what if they looked at a thread for 2 minutes, are they still online or are they in the bathroom or in bed falling asleep? It tells you nothing.

I can tell your joking because that was pointless.

---------------------------------------------------------

The thing that drives me crazy is that the time is always relative. Meaning it's always going to show you something within the last 5 minutes. How is that useful? I want a drop down menu with the last 5 actions they've done, or last 5 threads they've viewed.

What is time going to do for me?

I'm done with it, I'm removing it tomorrow, I have my replacement and it works perfectly without the time there.

I didn't think anyone even used the who's online page... at least I don't.

The Last Activity, does seem fairly useless there. However, I look at it quite often on a member's profile in case I would need to contact them or something. Obviously there is does serve a better purpose.

I think it's useful. It tells me who's online and active. So if I want to contact someone who's showing as online, I can see if they're actually there or if they're idle. If they haven't done anything in quite a while chances are they have left there computer on with their browser on my site, or something to that effect.

If it's not useful to the point that it's bugging you, just remove it =)

The only thing it shows me is how long another site has their cookies set for. :D

I use the time to figure out if I've actually banned people from my server correctly lol No more attempts to spam my forums as per Who's Online if the IP is banned :p
It's also good to see when that person last looked at a thread... especially on my forum where we have a lot of shit-talkers and want to see if they're refreshed the page and saw the new crap said about them :p

I delete accounts. I don't typically ban, all my other admins ban, I just delete, because I like torturing people and making them re-register and fill out the stupid form again and again. mwahahaha

We did this instead:

thats a mod account, but we still have the IP address line for admins and gmods
