What this does?

This addon will add the latest posts of your forum to all pages.

What version does it work on?

This modification was written in vBulletin 3.8.7, however, it should work will most of the later 3.x series.

Features?

Enable/Disable - Master Switch to Turn Latest Posts on or off
Title - Change the title of the Site News
Posts to Show - Number of Last Posts to show
Cutoff Length - How many characters to show before the ... at the end
Exclude Forums - Choose what forums you do not want to be listed
Thread Title Width - Width of Title Table
User Title Width - Width of User Table
Forum Title Width - Width of Forum Table
Auto Location - Enable/Disable auto location
Location - Gives Options for Under navbar, above forum, or below forum
Date - Choose to include the date and time posted.Installation?

a very good hack, thanks alot. Installing was easy.
But I have a little big problem:
Exclude Forums - Choose what forums you do not want to be listed
I have 178 forums on my board and want to show only 1 of them in the hack.
Is there a way to make it easier and faster, beside of adding all 177 forums into the exclulde field?
Maybe adding a new line (form) into the hack so you can add "include Forums" and not only "exclude Forums"

If you only want to include one then you can edit the 'main code' plugin that is added with this addon. Find:

WHERE post.visible = '1' AND thread.visible = '1' AND open = '1' AND $platest_and AND $platest_and_1Change to:

WHERE post.visible = '1' AND thread.visible = '1' AND open = '1' AND forum.forumid = x

Dont want to become a pain in your a**, but now I have another problem:

I want to use this hack as kind of advertising and this means that I want to show the latest x posts from a forum, which is not accessable (not visible) for normal users. They should see topic-titles, but not the content of the post. Is there any chance to make it work?

Well if you set the cutoff to 0, then they will only see the titles. The change above will not include the forum permissions, so all will show.

As admin I see other latest posts than a normal user.
Example: I´ve a private area and only one usergroup (specials) can enter this area. If I now setup the hack to exclude all other forums so that only this private area is using the hack.
The result is that I (logged in as admin) see the latest posts (topic titles) in the private area, while normal members see nothing.
So the hack is using the forumpermissions of the different usergroups.

What I have in mind is to show the latest posts from a specified forum, no matter if the members have the permissions to enter this specified forum or not. As I have set the cutoff to 0, they only can see the topic title and if they click on such a link, the board-software, depending on the usergroup-persmissions, will either show them the topic or give them an error-message

Would like some help in changing the template to display the following: delete "Forum" and "Author" info and replace with "Last Reply" and "Replies/Views".

Deleting the existing "Forum" and "Author" code is not a problem - need help with the new code to replace them with the "Last Reply" (date) and "Replies/Views" (counts from the posts - how many times viewed and how many replies). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The technical reason is that it is only to be shown on the forumhome template.

No. This is how it is intended for use. You would have to modify the query and change the templates.

Great Mod with heaps of parental to do things with, I am like others and would like to see "post icons", "Last Reply" and "Replies/Views", there seems to be plenty of room for this.

Not sure if the text is needed below the thread title, I removed it on my template as it just took up too much room at the top if showing 10 posts.

Hmm, I have installed this, and been to "VbOptions" and set things, and it isn't showing anything, so I uninstalled it... and tried another one, and nothing seems to work. So is this made for 3.7.3?

Yes, if it is not working, then you can install it, and add the $platest into your forumhome template and it should work. might be a problem with a custom template.

Installed it and it is a pain in the neck. It does show the latest posts, but clicking on the post only refreshes the page (ditto for clicking on the author) .. and messes it up big time. Buttons dissapear, I cannot get to posts and I cannot even log out!! I have to close IE, clear the cache and than log in again.
What is wrong here? Am using VB 3.7.4 PL1

michael, after upgrading to 3.8.0, i have a sudden problem. if i click on a recent post on my last 50 posts page, it does indeed take me to that post, but it logs all my users out in the process. any ideas?

Strange, it only seems to happen when hovering a thread. After submitting the link it automatically gets rewritten to #post85186

in the Latest X Post on Forum Home > main code plugin, however the date and time shown will be from the latest post, not from the first post.

sorry for the late reply. i was having some sort of logout issues anyway with the forum, regardless of both of your products. it was something in the navbar. i reverted the template, then put the link for the last 50 back, and it worked. everything is fixed.

the reason i found this is because a member that used IE said that clicking 'log out' made her computer freeze up, so i went looking online and found that people who reverted the templates fixed the problem.

so, navbar template, something i did, im not sure what. :/

It is possible, although it would require to change the plugin from something like this:

Well this mod strips the bbcode, so parsing it is not really an option. Reason it is stripped is if you use the cutoff, then it could cut out the end bbcode, so you would just have the starting bbcode shown.

Hey this a great mod but 3 more things would make it beneficial:

You don't have to include anything to your templates, unless you'd choose a different position as the options will give you.

Basically, there is a forum where members can talk to staff and only see their threads they started ... is it possible to make an alteration so that instead of seeing all latest posts in that forum ... they only see the ones they started IN THAT forum?

Basically, the mod shows all of the latest posts, but in forum 1, it shows all of the posts even in the threads they are not supposed to see ... I was hoping there was a way to make them see posts from Forum 1 only if it is from their threads ...

Firstly thank you for this excellent mod.

I run a humour forum which has a main forum, and a handful of smaller off-topic forums.

I would like it if I could have 2 seperate tables. The first table would show the latest 20 posts from the main forum, and the second table would show the latest 20 posts from all of the other forums combined.

Would this require a major rewrite or could I achieve it by making smaller modifications to the plugin?

I notice it slows down the loading of forumhome a lot. (using VB 3.8)
