what is core. ???

I have searched but could not find..

I have recently moved servers/:confused:hosts and whilst moving I noticed lots of files named "core.12345" etc and each was approx 30mb and took an eternity to upload for some reason.
Can anyone please tell me more about these files. On an early backup I noticed only one file and now ive got Thirteen.

Anyone please enlighten me?

A 'core' file is a memory dump generated by the OS when a process is crashed. It can be used for debugging purposes. Unless you have currently problems with processes crashing, you can safely remove these files.

If I'd have know this it would have saved me hours uploading the damn things.
