It would be useful for the moderators if there was a button in a post near the edit and quote buttons, or as a moderator drop down choice, that said
'send move post request to poster'
And when you clicked this link, a box would pop up, much like the report post box, but with some standard text, and a place to add a 'reason'. it would send an email and a pm to the original poster, with a link to that thread, and the request for the user to self-move the thread, with a note that if it wasn't self moved in 'x' time period, a moderator would move it.
This would allow a user to move a thread themselves when posted on the wrong board.
Many of my users get upset when a moderator moves their thread, and then say 'if you had just asked me, or if I had known, i would have moved it myself'.
It's not a big deal function, but it's something that introduces more courtesy and more professionality into the forum moderation area.
A sample of the text would be:
(Standard set in vbulletin admin side, phrase, etc)
Hello membername,
This is a courtesy request for you to move one of your posts. Our normal board policy is that a post on this topic would be more appropriate on a different board. Your post at this link (link to post would be automatically inserted here) needs to be moved to this board.
(insert name of board here, which would be a link to that board - maybe picked by the mod using the forum jump menu type function).
Please move your post within the next (time frame), or a moderator will move it for you. If you have any questions, please reply to this message or check with the moderator of the board this post is on.
