Adverts for specific user groups

Hello all,

Is there any way by which I can modify my template so that only guests can see adverts. In other words, I do not want my registered members to see adverts at all.

Additionally, does anyone know of a way to put ads into the left side of the first post in a thread. I have seen this done elsewhere and think it would be great for my site.
