Description:
This is a hack to "anonymize" all outgoing links from your forum to prevent the referrer information from being sent.

Installation:
All the installation information is in the package.

What's different about this one?
Unlike the other anonymizing hacks, this one is integrated with vBulletin, meaning it shows a nice message along with your forum's headers and footers.

Please download the 2.8 package and follow the upgrade procedure. The package was updated a few minutes after I attached it, as there were a few critical bugs in there. You must have gotten the old one :).

If you can add a blacklist feature to this that would be incredible and I would very likely give you my next born child.

Ex: a feature where you can add urls that you DON'T want to allow linking to. It would give the user a special "not allowed" message or something on the redirection page.

Can?t reproduce this Error. Using this Mod since Years now with a lot of different .htaccess Configurations. Never problems.

No it's my site Dismounted. Then I put inj the u/p to my site and it brings me to the linked site. I'm thinking that all I need to do is put the u/p into the code somewhere but can't figure out where. Might also be noteworthy that htaccess/htp is in a subdomain directory where the forum resides and not the domain directory. Thanks for the reply. :)

It had only revised ten URL references, so I searched these out and manually changed them in the end. Someone should test this in order to be certain, as it appeared to me that new posts were being changed forever in lieu of on the fly. What are the benefits?
Also explained in the 3.6 thread, it basically removes the referrer header from HTTP requests (geeky tech stuff ;), don't stress). Some sites track the referrer header, to see who has come from where to access their sites.

It's not practical because you would proxy your image through your server anyway, meaning the server that hosts the image will see your site.

Just a piece of advice for those of you relying "heavily" on this mod: browsers such as opera or safari will still show redirect.php as the referrer, so you can and will be traced if some of your users click on a link using those browsers

Well, I just searched the mod and went though the first 12 or so pages by hand and maybe Im blind but I cant find it. A page number or link would be helpful thanx. I am currently using the mod and dont intend to uninstall it but If I have to to try and get another mod to work I need to be able to figure this out.

Most likely - there is some server configuration issue. A wild guess by me would be mod_security or something similar, blocking legitimate requests.

al the redirects to redirector was domain.com and after the domain change is still to domain.com and not to domain1.com (New links its with new domain)

You probably have mod_security/Suhosin/Hardened PHP installed. The error usually happens if the rules are too strict - TBH, I don't know exactly what to change, as I have not experimented with them.

I have an issue.

The mod is rewriting images in the forum which i have a light box mod installed and now the images can't be seen with this mod installed. I attempted to uninstall it and remove the redirector rebuild all information and the images are still showing the redirect url. How can I remove this?

Open redirector.php
Find:

Add above:

That forces guests to login before they can use the redirector.php page. Doesn't stop them from seeing and copying the target link directly from the URL though
(eg. http://www.mysite.com/redirector.php?url=http://www.yoursite.com).

I added that as people were just copying my redirector.php URLs onto other sites. As I don't add ads, there was no point in letting them get away with that.

Decided to use a major version revision number, as this is a near complete rewrite of the code, and removes the (previous) fairly costly PCRE functions.

hey Dismounted, just updated to 3.0 and it's working great.

i noticed however that certain links prior to the upgrade don't have the redirector being used but if i copy that link and paste as a new reply then it does become redirected.

example:

a member posted http://www.bestimagehosting.com/thumbs/1/XXXXXXX.jpg [not a real link, just example]

and it doesn't get the redirector added to it

but if i copy shortcut on same link and paste that link as a new reply then the redirector takes effect on that link.

is there any maintenance i should run or something in the Update Counters perhaps?

I have installed your mod.

First i upload one file in the root and one in "includes".

Next i have Import a new Produkt (the .xml file)

Next i go to vbulletin options -> vbanonymizer and have to nothing. I have only writen my domain in whitelist.

Now, if i go to a thread and click to a intern or extern link. Its always the normaly szene. No function with anonymizer.

All links in posts (and signatures) should be anonymized. Actually, any links passed through the vBulletin BB code parser should be anonymized.

I've found a little issues. If i visiting my site via the https protocol, the anonymizer links are on http not on https. Of course i can change it in the plugin, but it would be better if the anonymizer is using http if i visit my site via http and it's using https if i browsing my site with https.

Perhaps in a future version it can be integrated.

There is no incompatibility, the mod just doesn't work as far as its "whitelist" feature.

vbAnonymizer have problem.
if everybody copy link form my site! then copy redirector ! but they without registration will be download our link ..
but they don't download from another site !
for example : if 1 user copy link from my site to another site's ...then they can will download with Redirector from our site!
vbAnonymizer haven't config for group! and guest's can download without register!
please repair this problem

I just installed this great mod but I see that is incompatible with also this awesome mod [...]
Some of these media embedding modifications override the default URL BB Code handler, like this modification does, and this can cause incompatibilities.
There is no incompatibility, the mod just doesn't work as far as its "whitelist" feature.
It was working when I tested it - I'll look into it.

The goal of this modification is not to restrict people from clicking on links - you have obviously misunderstood its task. However, that feature may appear in a later version.

There is no incompatibility, the mod just doesn't work as far as its "whitelist" feature.

Working fine to me the whitelist.

It works perfectly fine on 3.8 - its just that whitelisting doesn't seem to work (haven't confirmed this myself).

I am running the vbSEO acronym expander now. They had to toy with it a bit and recode to make it work for me.

Now, when vbSEO acronym expander takes over a link, it goes straight to the site, which is what I want.

And if it is a URL that is not taken over by vbSEO acronym expander, then it goes through your anonymizer.

So...this dual system works for now. A separate peace, as Hemingway might have said. :-)

Possible, but not without knowledge of PHP.

No doubt this is one of the best tools. But I already mentioned that linseed is a problem. I hope that you resolve the problem.
If the problem is that links from within the user to copy threads. Subsequent. VbAnonymizer links or forums / redirector.php the copy is located. The problem is that even if the copy of this link into another website or other forum to copy and E to give. You to download. Try vBseo CP/Custom Rewrite Rules add :

If someone writes a post, and includes a link in it...to say
www.yahoo.com

then edits the post, and changes the link to say
www.ebay.com
seems that anonymizer doesn't understand that the link was edited (changed), and when the hyperlink is clicked, keeps taking you to the first hyperlink, that is yahoo.

Try it, see if what I say is true.

(Mind you, it may have something to do with the fact that I am also running
External Link Titles, retrieve descriptive titles for URLs

This is a problem with the "firewall" modification you are using, and is no fault of vbAnonymizer.

The posts are still with redirector.php? link some of them with %3A%2F% symbols in links

vbanonymizer_uninstall_fix.php dont work, gives me error

Just a piece of advice for those of you relying "heavily" on this mod: browsers such as opera or safari will still show redirect.php as the referrer, so you can and will be traced if some of your users click on a link using those browsers

Confirmed. I can't use this modification longer if the redirect don't work correctly under this two browsers.

Would be very good if this can be fixxed. :)
