View Full Version : New Posting Features - Pre-Defined Message

What does this do?

This allows you to pre-define a message in the Admin CP that is linked to a button shown on showthread.php (depending on what forums you allow to use this button). When you click this button, it will automatically reply to that post with your pre-defined message.

This saves you repeating yourself when welcoming new members or if you have to keep telling people the rules for your site. Just one click :)

What can I do?

Well this is totally customisable. You can limit what forums have this, what usergroups can press the button, Whether the users signature is shown and whether it closes the thread after posting.

How easy is this to install?

Very easy. Just upload the xml file to product manager.

What tests have been done?

This has been made CSRF protected so you will not get the annoying "security key missing or mismatched" message.

What Next?

Please leave any suggestions / feedback. I am always looking to upgrade this and would be more than happy to try and implement some of your ideas.

Miscellaneous

Please mark as installed if you use this.

Installed as well.

Not sure if this can be done or not but is there a way to allow custom messages per staff member or is this theoretically impossible? Reason asked is I use this now for my introduce yourself and it would look funny if all staff used it.

Very usefull.

How many messages can be defined?

Hex_legend

At the moment, only one message.

I will look into defining more messages :)

Thanks this is a useful mod and has potential if it is possible to allow staff cutomized messages. Still installed. :D

I shall look forward to the next version :)

I agree it would look a bit odd if all the admins were using the same pre-defined message :P

Edit: too late lol, all the below has already been requested.

I'll install this once it has these features:

1. PM ability
2. More then 1 defined message ability
3. user defined messages, eg. my smods may like to type up their own messages that they use. and for myself I would like to have my own messages.

Other then that, good work, thanks for sharing, and look forward to seeing this develop some more :)

I need this mostly for infractions, but I like the existing stuff as well. Will wait for new implementations though.

Predefined messages for infractions would safe my staff a LOT of work.

If you can add this, then please do.

is this hack handled by usergroups?

Hex_legend

Its not in the usergroup options, but its in vbulletin settings.
You can specify the usergroup ID's that can use this feature.

If all of these suggestions were implemented this would be a very, very helpful modification.

Are you still planning further enhancements? This is one of my most wanted features, but the current implementation is a bit lacking (although very promising).

Yes I am planning extra features, but at the moment all my concentration is going on vB Member Area :)

Woo hoo

I requested this (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=146112) last year and have been waiting ever since.
My wait is nearly over, or it will be when you can define multiple messages. :)

Hehe well vB Members Area gets released tomorrow, so then I will be focusing all my concentration on Pre-Defined message :D:cool: Be assured I'm dead serious about the $$$. I have no problem donating/paying good money (and I ain't talking $10) for a plugin which does what I need. I know this is probably not in line with forum policy, but please see this as a formal paid modification which may be released for free for all of vb.org after it's done. PM me if you're ready to code and talk.

The most important features for me:

Has to be usergroup dependent
Has to work within the infraction system
New user defined messages have to be easily added through the AdminCP
BONUS: Has to work with the PM system and as quick reply for thread replies
BONUS: Phrasable (translations of user-defined messages possible for multi-language boards)

PM me for further discussion re: the $$$.

Hi!

Nice Idea!

I would like to pre-define more than one message. Only staff should use this mod (e.g. "This Thread was moved to this forum, because..."). A pulldown-menĂ¼ over which I can select the wished pre-defined message should be placed on the sites newreply and newthread. After choosing the wished pre-defined message, a copy of it should pe placed into the message-field, so that I can change the text before I submit it.

Greetings,
Chriss

I installed this but for some reason it is not showing up in the Product Manager or vB Options. Any idea why?

ETA: Nevermind it just took a while to show up!

This mod seems to be a exact copy of https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=132723 except for a security token added.

No credit has been given to the original author.

TheLastSuperman

This is nearly an identical clone of https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=132723

No credit was given nor was the original modification marked as re-usable code.

Shameful at best!

Edit: Infraction issued however if I see this again I will bypass an infraction and ban you directly. This is not tolerated on vBulletin.org and a review of the code tells me you copy/pasted which was down right blatant.
