Profile Field Help

I noticed there is a "Max length of allowed user input" I was wondering if there was some way to get a "Lowest length of allowed user input" as some spammers just simply put "1" in the profile box and they can register.

Also: If I make a "Single Selection Menu" field required. Could spammers still bypass that, since they can't just type "1" into the field.
