View Full Version : Profile Enhancements - Countdown Timer in signature

Original Modification by Hellcat (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/member.php?u=35034)
Previous versions:
vB3.5.x "User Countdown Timer" (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=107596).
vB3.6.x "User Countdown Timer". (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=118109)
I have taken the original modification and simply edited templates to get it working with vB3.7.x
Note: I did not write the original modification so support of this release may be limited.
This little AddOn gives your users the option to show a custom countdown timer at the bottom of their signature.
Features:
Fully configurable via UserCP (see screenshot)
BB-Code can be used for eventname and overmessage
fully phrased/templated, nothing hardcoded and so fully customizable
leading days or hours with a value of "0" are not shown
(so it shows "42minutes" rather then "0days 0hours 42minutes")Installation:
Painless:
Upload "plugins_usercountd.php" to ".../forum/includes"
Upload "bitfield_hc_countdown.xml" to ".../forum/includes/xml"
Import the product .XMLYou may also need to rebuild your languages after the install.
This can be done by going to:
AdminCP - Laguages & Phrases -> Language Manager -> Rebuild all languages
DONE
That's it.
No template edits, no nothing
Usergroup permission:
Go to -> AdminCP -> Usergroups -> Usergroup Manager -> User Countdown Permissions
Members Usage:
Go into your UserCP -> Edit Options
On the very bottom you will find the options for the Countdown Timer.
Set it to whatever you like, if "Enable" is set to "ON" the timer will automatically be shown on the bottom of your sig, set to "OFF" will hide/disable the time display.
Please MARK AS INSTALLED (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/vborg_miscactions.php?do=installhack&threadid=182480) & NOMINATE FOR MOTM (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/vborg_miscactions.php?do=nominate&threadid=168992&type=1) :p
Enjoy. :)

Hi Howell,
I have just installed this - uploaded the files as instructed, uploaded the xml in the ACP, but this is the result I get... even after rebuilding all languages :confused: Using 3.7.1.
There is also no fields for it at all in Usergroup permissions :S
Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Did you install to forum/includes?
In admincp, did you goto uergroups, click example: admin and rebuild bitfields.
Perhaps in admincp, logout, and back in.

Thanks TimberFloorAU, turns out the files to upload to forum/includes didn't actually upload when they were supposed to, as I had other files from last night still queued in my FTP program :rolleyes: That'll do it!

I just had an idea for a request actually, maybe the option for the member to upload a small personal pic to add next to the countdown?

Styling:
Font/Color/Icon
Perhaps a choice of icons, in a radio button list.
Such as a :
Birthday Cake
Xmas Tree
New baby
Aeroplane
Etc etc.
Be more personal then.
Our users love the countdown.
Can it be configured as a count up?
ie: countup to an event.
28 days 17 mins 32 seconds till we go on holiday
etc etc

Easy... so for example "X years, X months and X days since X event". A birthday, an anniversary, etc.
I think going by some of the requests made on here sofar, people are more keen on graphical countdown tickers as opposed to just a basic text timer.
Something similar to the ones i paid to have developed: http://www.theparentingsanctuary.com.au/tickerTPS/index.php
I dare say they are a LOT more complex, though... you can also get premade scripts of a similar nature on the web for a set pricetag.
No idea if anybody on VB would be willing to go to that extent or not to get a similar outcome....

One of our old sites, which we should revamp, tickertag.com has a good mix of counters.
Will try to see if we can hack this to a countup event to..

How did you fix your problem so I know for future?
For some reason the double posting... it added a code to postbit_legacy althou this might have been from a previous install, I reverted postbit_legacy and that sorted it..
To fix the "Select" days Issue I had I edited the phrases countdown_days and countdown_hours which had the text of "select"
again this may have been from the previous install..
All is well now and I thank you for porting this to 3.7 as my users love it :up:

This would be perfect for our site! Folks counting down to a vacation to Disney especially.
An icon or some sort of small pic would be great. In my case I'd use a little Mickey or something. But, for birthdays we could use a little birthday cake as someone suggested.
I'm going to watch this mod as it will be something for me to add in the near future once (if) these little 'customizations' can happen. :D
Great job!

I decided to test this mod out and found a quirky little thing. It wouldn't show unless you had something (I put a period) in the actual signature. If you had a blank signature, the countdown wouldn't show. Is that a bug?

Yeah, I think it might also need to be changed to reflect the timezone a member has set, as opposed to the default board time. One of my members complained today that hers was 2 hours off - as per the time difference between board time and her custom-set timezone - and she had to set it with a 2 hour delay to be accurate.

So you mean countup from an event( not countup to an event) - like its been x days since my birthday.
Why would you want to know how many days its been since the event?
Sorry not trying to be rude just curious.

Well you might want to ask my forum members this question, since most of them love using this format as well. I think its great to have a way to display how long you have been married for, how far along your pregnancy is, or how old your young son/daughter is etc. :)

AdminCP - Laguages & Phrases -> Language Manager -> Rebuild all languages
See if that works.
Installed, worked for me also, thanks!
But like the others, not showing up in posts.
It is currently 7.47am, i set a countdown for 8am (just testing it out), and it says 'Counting down to: testing
16 hours 11 minutes'
it should be 11 minutes. Does this not use the users timezone? If it's using the server time zone then it's pretty useless isn't it?

It adds 8hours to what would be the correct time for the countdown to finish!
Any ideas as this mod is used a fair bit already on my site or was until people noticed! :(

I had the same problem until I put a period in the signature field. The countdown needs something to 'prompt' it to working. So, a simple period (in the same color as your background to mask it, of course ;) ) would let it work.

Its ok, I put something in my sig and it works. Shame you actually have to do that to get it to work. Ill probably uninstall it and buy one that lets you include pictures, good mod though.

I would like to have it when the counter reaches the end it then set's the function to "Off".
Any idea's on how to do this ?
Modded the code slightly to add more fields which all work fine, now I would like an auto reset if possible.

Great Mod, Thank You For Sharing It. :up:
One Idea: It would be really nice also to be able to see the CountDown Information on the Member Profile on the Statistics Tab. ;) And Perhaps to Allow the User to Choose where to Display the Countdown (On Postbit, On Profile, On Both Postbit and Profile). ;)
My Best Regards.

This Mod Can be Used as a Reminder for an Event of the User.
I'd Like to Share the Inclusion of the CountDown on the User Profile (If Someone knows a Better Way to do This would be Nice to Share it. ;)):
Step 1: Edit File plugins_usercountd.php and after that Upload it on the "includes" Folder, Overwriting the Existing File, (the one you Uploaded when Installed this Mod).
Include at the end of the File, before the Code ?> the Following Code:
// ************************************************** ******************** \\
if ( $THIS_HOOK == "member_profileblock_fetch_unwrapped" )
{
$cdfield = "field" . $vbulletin->options["countdownfield"];
$query = $vbulletin->db->query_read( "SELECT $cdfield FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "userfield WHERE userid='" . $userinfo["userid"] . "';" );
$result = mysql_fetch_array( $query );
$cddata = unserialize( str_replace( """, '"', $result[$cdfield] ) );
if ( $cddata["enabled"] == "Yes" )
{
require_once( "./includes/class_bbcode.php" );
require_once( "./includes/functions_newpost.php" );
$vbulletin->cdbbcode_parse =& new vB_BbCodeParser($vbulletin, fetch_tag_list());
$eta = mktime ( intval( $cddata["hour"] ), intval( $cddata["minute"] ), 0, intval( $cddata["month"] ), intval( $cddata["day"] ), intval( $cddata["year"] ) );
$tremain = $eta - time();
if ( $tremain > 0 )
{
$t = $tremain;
$remain["days"] = intval ( $t / 86400 );
$t = $t - ( $remain["days"] * 86400 );
$remain["hours"] = intval ( $t / 3600 );
$t = $t - ( $remain["hours"] * 3600 );
$remain["minutes"] = intval ( $t / 60 );
$counter = $remain["minutes"] . $vbphrase["countdown_minutes"];
if ( ( $remain["hours"] != 0 ) OR ( $remain["days"] != 0 ) )
{
$counter = $remain["hours"] . $vbphrase["countdown_hours"] . " " . $counter;
}
if ( $remain["days"] != 0 )
{
$counter = $remain["days"] . $vbphrase["countdown_days"] . " " . $counter;
}
} else {
$counter = $vbulletin->cdbbcode_parse->parse(convert_url_to_bbcode($cddata["overmsg"]), 'nonforum');
}
$event = $vbulletin->cdbbcode_parse->parse(convert_url_to_bbcode($cddata["event"]), 'nonforum');
}
}
Step 2: Create Plugin.
On Admin Control Panel (ACP) -> Plugins and Products -> Add New Plugin
Product: vBulletin
Hook Location: member_profileblock_fetch_unwrapped
Title: User CountDown - Block Statistics
Execution Order: 5
Plugin is Active: Yes
Plugin PHP Code:
$THIS_HOOK = "member_profileblock_fetch_unwrapped";
require( "./includes/plugins_usercountd.php" );
Click the "Save" Button to Save New Plugin.
Step 3: Edit Template "memberinfo_block_statistics"
Find at the End of the Template
$template_hook[profile_stats_last]
Before that Add:
<!-- Start User Countdown memberinfo_block_statistics -->
<if condition="$counter">
<fieldset class="fieldset">
<legend>$vbphrase[countdown_title]</legend>
<strong>$vbphrase[countdown_counting_down_to]:</strong> $event <br />
<em>$counter</em>
</fieldset>
</if>
<!-- End User Countdown memberinfo_block_statistics -->
Step 4: ENJOY! That's It
My Best Regards.

Just installed on 3.8. After a quick read of the posts/replies in this thread, fixed all the problems, and it seems to be working beautifully!

Any way to remove the "My Countdown" text along with the block around the countdown?

This works fine for me and my "test" account and some others but one member can't get it to work. Why would that be? She's a supermod and it works fine for another supermod so it's not a problem with the whole usergroup. I've messed around with it and am stumped.
Same here. Im having the exact same problem.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Does this mod work with the hack that makes it so your signature only appears once on a page?

Any way to remove the "My Countdown" text along with the block around the countdown?
You can edit the actual phrase ....
AdminCP >> Languages & Phrases >> Search in Phrases
...then, type the word 'countdown' in the search field and then search for the $vbphrase[countdown_title] or "My Countdown" phrase and change it to whatever you'd like to. But, to remove it altogether, you'd probably have to search through the products and/or php file for that and remove it. Good luck :up:

Sure change your usercountdown_display from
<fieldset class="fieldset">
<legend>$vbphrase[countdown_title]</legend>
<strong>$vbphrase[countdown_counting_down_to]:</strong> $event <br />
<em>$counter</em>
</fieldset>
to
<br>:<strong>$vbphrase[countdown_counting_down_to]:</strong> $event <br />
<em>$counter</em>

I'm getting this message as well and have temporarily disabled the plugin. I see these error reports but no fix. Has anyone solved this problem?
I also see it was reported and someone suggested a fix (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?p=1760811), but that didn't help.
Running 3.8.2.
I keep getting this error
Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in [path]/includes/plugins_usercountd.php on line 190
I had to uninstall this product, it kinda blew my whole forum to errors, lots of SQL errors and such.
I installed on vB 3.7.1 PL2 and got this error:
Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in [path]/includes/plugins_usercountd.php on line 190
