sub-forum question

On the forums that I have subforms I want people to use the subforums only..I know I can stop people from posting in the main forum but how do I make it so the New Thread, thread list etc are not shown...just the list of subforums....just like on this site...if you click the 3.7 area then you see the 2 subforums you dont see anything else...is this a hack or plugin or is there a setting im missing?

If you edit the forum that's supposed to be a sub category and set it to Act as Forum? No Then it shouldn't allow posting.

I do that - and it wont allow posting...but it still shows hte NEw Thread button and also the thread list (with no threads) - If you hit new thread it doesnt allow it but I want to make it so you dont even see that stuff - just the list of subforms.
