View Full Version : End-User Options - Comprehensive Ignore System

The Comprehensive Ignore System allows your users to ignore more than just a users text in a post.

I am no longer supporting this free product at vbulletin.org. You can now find support for this here (everything is still free):

http://www.lampwrights.com/showthread.php?t=84

Why? I am really busy and trying to manage these products here is no longer feasible. It is all about the limitations of time!

Can you also add "Ignore XYZ (this user)" from users postbit menu on his username?

jafo just a question about the ignore list: if a user is already into the ignore list i can't view his posts or not? i mean by vB default ... :)

edit: i saw that this hack put the ignored forum/threads hidden for the users ... the perfect solution for this hack, i think, is only exclude the new threads from the 'new posts' feature ... cause with this hack if i wanna check the forums that i've already excluded i can view anything ... i think this hack is a very good starting point but needs some improvements ... thank you very much Jafo

It will ignore his threads if you check the box to ignore threads by users on your ignore list in the settings link (usercp).

I am not sure I understand the second part of your question..

let me explain better :)

if i put a forum into my ignore list after that i can't see it over forumhome.php ... same thing for the threads over forumdisplay.php ... so they aren't only ignored ... they are completely hidden ...

what i mean is: is possible change this thing? i wanna exclude the new threads/posts that i've ignored only over search.php without hide them from my forum ...

hope you can understand, sorry for my poor english :)

Great product :D

How hard would it be to adapted this to do the following:-

[HEADER]

Category 1---------------------------- [Ignore]
Forum 1
Forum 2
Forum 3
Category 2---------------------------- [Ignore] <---- Click ignore to hide category and all sub forums.
Forum 4
Forum 5
Forum 6
Category 3---------------------------- [Ignore]
Forum 7
Forum 8
Forum 9

[STATS]

[FOOTER]

So you can ignore whole categories and child forums.

Would be a great addition if you could fit it in somehow.

If you do not want to hide the forums from view, you can disable the plugin titled "Remove ignored forums from listings".

I think that is what you mean?

The only problem with that is, it would increase the load on the server significantly if it had to build forum home in such a way. At least that is my first thought. I have to look into it a little more, and maybe there is a solution.

I am not sure I understand what you mean with threads? If you ignore threads, why would you want to see them? The point of the hack was to COMPLETELY ignore threads/forums. If somebody wants to see a thread, then don't ignore it?

I am not sure what you mean.

I'm in the initial stages of diagnosing a slight problem but, admittedly, I have several mods installed:

I lost the ability to Save any changes made within User Manager. I'm not sure that I lost it when the security patch was released and honestly, I'm not sure I had it prior to installing the CIS mod but, here's the tricky part:

If I go to the Plugin & Product area and locate Product : Comprehensive Ignore System...

Uncheck: Add clear ignored thread button to useradmin

Everything is fine.

Anyone else experience anything of the sort and - what might I need to change to turn the option back on?

Thanks!!

That's the only area where an ignored user is still visible on my board.

No, not at this time. The reason is, I have yet to find a way to do that where it will not create a large load on busy servers.

I have been testing this and have not had any problems saving changes.. I know it is asking a lot, but have you tried disabling other products that use any of the following hook locations?:

useradmin_edit_column2

useradmin_update_save

Jafo232

Updated the version to address these issues:

Fixed an issue where users changing their setting to ignore users on their ignore list, would change that setting for everyone.

Added support for tags.

Added option for users to hide forums they ignore or not.

Worked with staff at vbSEO where their software caused an issue when using the Previous | Next links (ignored threads would be seen).

Created a plugin for VBA CMPS to apply ignore settings for the Recent Threads module.

Make sure you read the upgrade text..

Just for grins, I enabled and disabled several other plug-ins and as a final straw, I removed "print_table_footer();" from "Add clear ignored thread button to useradmin" useradmin_edit_column2 and Voila, it's working (and saving) (Was this a bad experiment?)

Now, I'll update and see if I can tear it up even worse... Thanks though!!

UPDATE: Installed update without any issues whatsoever - very smooth but still commented out "print_table_footer();" to enable saves from user editing administration...
Installed the plug in for the portal too. Tested it and it works well but - I can't find the Thread tool to bring it back in the UserCP - Oddly enough, I went to the admin area for the user (me) and got it cleared there.. (and saved!)

Weird - shows up for regular Members but not for Admins (and I've set the permissions for Admins)?

Could be that you have another plugin that is stepping on any other plugin using that template hook location.

In your plugin manager, you will notice a column that says "hook location". See if there are any other products using this one "usercp_start" Try disabling the plugin temporarily and see if the menu appears. If it does, then it sounds like someone is using the same template hook, but they are not appending to it, but overwriting it.

An easy way around it would be to either set the CIS plugin at a higher execution order (i.e. 10) or if you can identify the offending plugin, set that one lower (i.e. 1).

Darat
06-17-2008, 05:39 AM
I've no other plug-in using that hook and as I say it does appear for non-Admin user-groups so it's a very strange one!

Darat

Just as a note in case you update anytime soon there's a slight English error in your cis_redirect_ignore_forum & cis_redirect_ignore_thread phrases

cis_redirect_ignore_forum: "This forum has now been marked ignore. View your UserCP do remove it from your ignore list."

Should be: "This forum has now been marked ignore. View your UserCP to remove it from your ignore list."

cis_redirect_ignore_thread: "This thread has now been marked ignore. View your UserCP do remove it from your ignore list."

Should be: ""This thread has now been marked ignore. View your UserCP to remove it from your ignore list."

Jafo232
06-17-2008, 01:18 PM
The user that is viewing that cannot see the menu items, do they belong to another group that does NOT have permissions to see it?

Darat
06-18-2008, 06:17 AM
I've spotted the problem or it could be as you designed it to be and if so sorry for the confusion!

The menu only appears if you are in the UserCP at the top level so to speak. Because I have a lot of subsribed threads when I look at my own UserCP I don't go to "..../usercp.php" I go direct to "..../profile.php?do=editoptions" and the menu doesn't apepar in the sidebar on that screen, although all my other "usercp" options do.

A question a member had, is there any way to ignore locked forums? We have a number of special support groups that are permission based (you must join for access) and we generally want them visible so that everyone knows they exist and can choose to join or not, but some of the members who know they don't want to join (for instance a mom done having kids isn't interested in our infertility support), would rather ignore those forums all together.

They can't see the posts now, but the forums do "clutter" up their screens, so it is a trade off between meeting the needs of members who are new and may want to join and those who know they don't.

Any way to help those members ignore those locked forums?

Thanx flypaper, that was really helpful. Considering this was distributed for free on a board, where it is indicated by the coder that the hack IS supported and he was last online in Dec 2008 (long after the different requests for help, including mine & Ryansmom's), coder could at the very least acknowledge the posts.

I know it sucks having to walk us newbies thru basic steps, but I've re-d/l'd & uninstalled/reinstalled this hack over 10 times and am still having the same problem. Obviously no one else is finding that they are getting Error 404 like me or maybe they haven't tested it completely on their board OR MAYBE I just need a little help. Is it really too much to ask, that ya have to step in with a snarky reply? Are you the coder in disguise?

It may be that if it was installed prior to a 3.8 update it's more stable.

We've upgraded to 3.8 and have made some adjustments to our templates. The new error we're receiving is:

Warning: require_once(./global.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/cdnation/public_html/vbforums/upload/cis_ignore_thread.php on line 5

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required './global.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/cdnation/public_html/vbforums/upload/cis_ignore_thread.php on line 5

Any ideas?

This mod is released AS IS. Sorry, but I have A LOT of work to do. I release products here that I have developed for some clients (with their permission). I could very well say screw everyone and keep them to myself and just charge people for them when I see a request in the paid requests forum, but I (and my clients) choose to support the VB community.

If you cannot figure out this mod, well, your out of luck. If you want to complain, I am not listening.

Perhaps you should change that large "Supported" logo next to the mod announcement, then?

One of main issues with the built in ignore in VB is if someone quotes a post that a user has ignored, they see the ignored user's post in the reply.

Does this mod fix this issue?

I love the mod and I understand it's unsupported but I have a wierd bug.

With Safari and IE, the Ignore Thread , Ignore Forum shows up just fine in the dropdown menu.
In Firefox, it doesnt show up at all.

Doesn't matter if it's a Mac or Vista or Vista 64.. Firefox won't show the ignore item on the drop down menu.

Any Ideas?

This line of code in the Thread and Forum ignore code block is what's killing Firefox. Could it be my permissions that are wrong?

Created a plugin for VBA CMPS to apply ignore settings for the Recent Threads module.

Anyone knows how to install or use this?
With vb3.8.1 I can't install it as an addon or a plugin.

Thanks for any hint. :o

Hm... when looking at "Who's Online" if the person is editing their Ignore settings, it says they are in an "Unknown Location."

I know the Developer isn't supporting it, but sometimes users of products fix that little Who's Online thing for other people. Anyone fix this for their site and want to share?

Thanks!

If you're installing this in 3.8.1, you'll need to add the "$tag_error" call to the "fetch_valid_tag()" function in the cis_settings.php file. From 3.7 to 3.8 an additional element was added to fetch_valid_tag() that has to be accounted for.

I attached how I implemented it.

This mod seems great, but I wonder if this can be done, or if someone knows of a Mod already.

I run a forum that will have heated discussions about Politics. When the heated battle is going on, usually two users are at it and won't quit.

I wonder if this could be tweaked to allow for a Mod or a Admin to put those two users on Auto Ignore for a set time.

Example:

UserA and UserB are fighting about something, they just won't quit, so I as a Moderator set in and click a button which does three things. Sends them a canned PM telling them they are in time out for X minutes/hours, Put them both on each others Ignore list, and then after the set time, removed them from each others ignore list...

This way, we can per determine what the time out period is and the canned response and all my Moderator has to do if they won't listen is click a button?

Does this sound possible at all? With this Mod, or would it take a completely different one?

Thanks for any help and for this great Mod! My users will at least love this one!

Jamie

Is that option available?

I've had the comprehensive ignore system installed for nearly a year and the members love it. Only recently I've needed to use a feature we hadn't tried before: allowing some moderators/admins to be ignored. This isn't working for me. I've added the userid number to the list in vbulletin options/comprehensive ignore, but the moderator still can't be ignored. Is there additional configuration somewhere else that is required for this feature?

This is a wonderful mod which I've been using for ages.

I'm rather concerned though... will there be a 4.0 port? I really hope so.

One feature suggestion. If you ignore a forum it would be good to not see that forum on the homepage, forumjump, etc.

If you need help with this, just let me know.

I don't know what the deal is, but users are complaining that they still see threads by users they ignore when they look at new posts. It shows both in the list and in the column for latest post, yet it's not there when they enter the forum/thread list.

I'm trying to get version 1.4 to work but I don't get any settings in the usergroup manager page. I have other mods (blog and vb Image Hosting) that might interfere. I can't find any code in the plugins that would seem to create such settings. Where would I find such code?

Love the addon, thank you.

One bug I've encountered is that the New Posts button (which typically shows 25 results per page) shows significantly less per page since the ignored messages are parsed after the list is compiled. My previous (but less sophisticated) mod (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=215001) did not have this issue.
