Hi,

I wonder if is possible to configure/mod this forum to run multiple languages forums (topics, posts etc) in subdomains.

Entire english forum structure (categories, subforums) should be replicated to other languages.

An user registration has to be shared: an English member may can post on the english forum OR not. He should be able PM all other users.

The user profile should be connected to all different languages forums installed (example: subscriptions should target all english topics but may target other languages topics!)

Example:

ENGLISH
www.testforum.com
-Category 1
--forum 1
-Category 2
--forum 2

ITALIAN
it.testforum.com
some categories/forums translated (but different topics/post)

Considerations:
-full server administration
-i work with PHP from about 7 years
-i can hack something but i wonder if i'll able to upgrade the forum

Another question:
I have to purchase multiple licenses?

Thanks

PS: sorry for my bad english

You can simply create 1 board with categories for each language. The user interface language can be choosen by each member.

If you really want to create multiple boards (multiple installations or complete seperated content) then you would need a license for each board. If you have 1 board with sections for each language, then only 1 license is required.

thanks..

so for example:

myboard
-EN
-cat1
-forum1
-forum2
-forum3
-cat2
-forum4
-forum5
-forum6

-IT
-cat1
-forum1
-forum2
-forum3
-cat2
-forum4
-forum5
-forum6

-FR
-cat1
-forum1
-forum2
-forum3
-cat2
-forum4
-forum5
-forum6

it's possible?
then i think it is not very bad.

some questions:
1) it's possible to build a subdomain that redirect to the right language without any problems?

2) When a user click on a forum EN the nav bar will be

myboard -> EN -> cat2 -> forum4

then i should remove "myboard" and "en", is it possible without a hack or problems?

A simple subdomain redirect would do the trick.
2) When a user click on a forum EN the nav bar will be

myboard -> EN -> cat2 -> forum4

To remove the "breadcrumbs", you will need a modification.

Doing this requires multiple licenses.

In addition, displaying different content depending on the language selected will require multiple licenses.

Actually, not completely. If you do not block access to the whole site, if you do not trick your users with different sections without access to other languages, you are not against the license.

Displaying different content depending on language is exactly the same as the tabs you see on top of THIS site... as each tab could be a language, and each section have distinct content without blocking the other content... it's only displayed by choice.

This is not an easy one, but in the end by removing the 2 bits from the breadcrumb (and the toplevel 'myboard' is the main issue) does make it needing multiple licenses.

you forget about the forum dropdown... can't drop it from there...

in ALL the situations, breadcrumb or not, it's the lockdown of a forum that make it a need for extra licenses... if you do not block the access but only change the view, it is not against the license.

also, if you do not block the search engine to search across these hidden forums, it's not blocking them.

oh, also... breadcrumb is not present in vbSEO... so using vbSEO would break the license if i follow your logic...

A vBulletin.org Pre-Sales thread is not the place to have this discussion. If you are unsure about a specific case, then please ask this as a specific question on vBulletin.com.

move it to general discussions then, pre-sales can also be answered there.. ;)

strangely after you answer it and i break your suggestion you find it's not the place to discuss it.. ..tssssss

This is a Pre-Sales thread. A potential customer asks a question and the reply on this specific question has been given by 2 Jelsoft staff members.

You are trying to have your own interpretation and try to discuss that. A thread by a potential customer is not the place to have your own discussion.

yeah, i know.. anyway, you can close this thread, this future-client already had a look at my work about the multi-language forums and know how to handle the situation... lol

Is it the time of the month again Nexia? You really must post yet again a reply?

It is up to the threadstarter to say his issue has been answered and the thread closed (if we closed thread on vB.org), and not yours.

Also judging by your remarks in this thread, i hope he does not follow your advise as he might get into licensing problems, as you obviously are not the person to answer such a question correctly.
