'If Condition' question

I have two usergroups:

member
special member

I currently have a table that encourages members to join the special member group that shows up on the top of the forum. Once the member has joined and their usergroup updated, I wanted to have it set so the table disappears so they don't see that table. Quite similar to the 'Registration is Free' table guests see that disappears when they register.

I'm guessing it's an 'If Condition' type coding but I don't know to set it so that I can specify which usergroup instead of 'guest' vs 'member'.

Could you assist?
