what is the best way to have 2 different looking sites that actually use the same instance of vbulletin?
I am looking to partner with another site and give their users access to my board but with the look and feel of their site. Hopefully it will give me the scale I need to get the board going.
So ultimately, it would be this:
Different banner
Different nav (their website nav with a subnav for vbulletin controls)
Different URL (for instance, http://forums.xyz.com redirecting to my servers)
Different theme
Same forums
Same DB
thanks.

This is not an easy task and you would need to have 2 vb licenses to do so.

Two licenses isn't so bad. What else would I need to do?

I dont think you need two liscenses if they are running off the same DB You may want to check out the Different domain, different style modifciation available here some where.

Please see this thread over @ vBulletin.com: Multiple domains and the license agreement (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103150).

According to your post, the content is the same, just a different look, so according to Rule #1 & #2 you do NOT need a 2nd license.
I would ask at vbulletin.com to verify that for sure, as long as your doing what you posted here.
If their site differs from yours, that may be a violation of Rule #3 though.

If you present the same data (regardless of styling) and don't make it seem to the users as 2 seperate boards, then you will only need 1 license.

Thank you for all the information.
Does anyone have a comment on the technical piece of it?
Even if the Banner at the top and the skin were different, it might be sufficient.

As mentioned above, a modification called "DDDS - Different Domain Different Style" should do the trick.
