Email reminder for inactive users 1.1.3

Hey Guys I've been using this (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=138946) mod quite a while and got a bit depressed after not seeing any updates to the mod. So I figured why not making my own modifications and help the people that had requests out a bit. I'm someone that is against spam. This mod becomes fast a annoyance to users that are inactive for a long time. That's why I will be making this mod more functional than before. Look into my to do list for new additions that will come.

Updates:
1 Email Only Function:
This function will limit the total emails send to 1. So if this email is send once they will never get a "miss you" email anymore. So people will get less anoyed and won't rate you as spam right away.

Todo:
Edit number of emails send totally
Not only 1 message but multiple messages possible and chosen with a random

If a user has not posted in x number of days, a HTML email will be sent out with a custom message.

Ive updated the mod so all the settings are editable in the AdminCP

Instructions are included.

I must insist that anyone pre 1.1.2 upgrades asap.

To upgrade you need to overwrite the remindermail.php file in the cron directory, and ideally import the product again. The new code will work with the old product file, however I have removed one of the settings in the options as it was no longer needed. as i say it will still run with this there but the quantity setting is now no longer used.

No there shoun't be any trouble. But don't forget to add the userrgroup where the user is moved to in the list of usergroups that get a email.

i was under the impression from the old mod thread that 1.11 was pretty unstable and couldn't send email in html. did you recode to fix the issues? i've been watching that mod some time now because i like the idea, but the ongoing issues and lack of updates concerned me and therefore i didn't install it.

Hmmm I don't know about the email in HTML function but thanks it's a good idea if it needs to be implemented. Could you explain me how exacly you want it in html ?

About the stability. In my opinion this mod always has been stable. I ran version 1.11 for like 3 months and never had problems with it. Most instabilities come from misconfigurations and other plugins. As I can't test for those instabilities I can't help you. The only thing you can do is or test yourself or post the errorcode here and the plugins youre using and I could find out what the problem could be.

I can't get this feature working properly after just downloading/installing tonight on 3.7.

Settings are set as 30 days inactivity, 90 day email frequency and only send once is off. Have several usergroups listed, many of which have inactive users (we have over 800 members and only around 200 are currently active within the last month), but whenever I run the schedule manually I always get the following response:

Inactive User Reminder Emails
Makes no use of the reminder Count

Found 0 Inactive Users.

Done

Have tried turning "inactivity based on last post" to either setting as well as changing other settings, but it still does the same thing :confused: I can't quite work out what the problem is.

Would appreciate some support.

I only see a link for 1.13 :confused: I did try the latest version of this (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=138946) one which did work, but wouldn't stop sending out multiple copies of the emails to members within a small timeframe so I uninstalled/removed it. I'm very reluctant to reinstall it after that, especially when I know I had the settings right.

The line: "We tried to email the following users, but their email address was invalid:" shows on every report. It merely states, in that case, that no users had invalid email addresses.

When there's a username after that message, then that username is linked to an invalid email address.

Hope that's clear 'ish ;)

Well, with the plugin you referenced, the eariler version (1.9) sent out HTML emails. I didn't have something specific in mind, other than I'd like to be able to set the emails up to include my site logo and some very simply HTML styling. I know vb's emails are text by default, but have also been watching a mod or two that ads the functionality to any email vb sends.

i haven't run any of them yet, so i don't have an issue myself. i was just going from reading the support thread, pretty much whenever someone had a problem, they were told to dl the older version. just wondered if you had addressed something somehow, but it sounds like it wasn't a problem for you...

it means some mails won't be delivered because its a PHP generated mail. If noone is in the list you have nothing to worry about.

No, it's not. First, I'm running on a VPS and I know how it's configured. Second, every other email sent out, including by this add-on, has been fine.

It may indeed be the ISP at the other end - I was asking whether there is anything in your add-on that might be contributing.

Alright, this is what I did to fix the email being sent out and the address, site name, etc.. being all goofy:

In the includes/cron/remindermail.php file:

FIND:

What email do you want to send it from? I tried modifying this to send from a specific username and it didn't work. Give me an example of what you want, and I'll try and making it work.

Also for everyone having issues with the mod sending out emails to new users: Please send me what settings you've setup in the VBulletin Options section for this mod. I created a new user yesterday, and have ran the task over and over and have yet to see them get an inactive message.

The mod uses the vbmail function, which is a standard function built-in to VBulletin. If you specify only 3 required parameters to this function, it *should* use the Webmaster's Email that you specified in the VB options. Look at the modification I posted previously, if you make that mod, it should send it out from that email. The original code is flawed.

Well i get the email from sender Mail Delivery Subsystem of this means a few members email aren't valid. This is outside of this mod. But it's already getting the email back. Why doesn't this hack list the group of people with the bounced emails? They are still listed as being contacted..but in reality..their email accounts are invalid. Understand?

It does not work correctly on my server, and for two different sites, it tried to create 2 From:'s

I've tested the hacked manually on the Scheduled Task Manager and checked the email, it sends out the email to the recepient. But on the AdminCP panel at the Task manager it is showing this message in regards to the remindermail.php file line 44 and others...

Hello Everyone. I installed this MOD and it's great.

A few pointers

1. Works absolutely perfectly with VB 3.8.1 PL1
2. For those who are complaining about the author's links, there is an option in AdminCP where you can turn links off..
3. You can make this MOD to send emails through the webmaster's email instead of the site's mail address. This is what you need to do.

Open remindermail.php in any editor.

Find the following CODE

if(is_valid_email($toemail)){
$sentlist .= "$username ";
vbmail($toemail, $subject, $message, $notsubscription = false, $from = $vbulletin->options['bbtitle'], $uheaders = '', $username = '');


Replace it by


if(is_valid_email($toemail)){
$sentlist .= "$username ";
vbmail($toemail, $subject, $message, $notsubscription = false, $from = $vbulletin->options['webmasteremail'], $uheaders = '', $username = '');


So basically instead of $from = $vbulletin->options['bbtitle'], you have to use $from = $vbulletin->options['webmasteremail']. This will sent email from the Webmaster's email address instead of the site/host email.

4. Some people were bothered by the daily mails it sends to the webmaster when it has mailed the inactive users. To prevent this MOD from emailing the webmaster every time, again open remindermail.php.

There at the end you will find an if-else condition:

Read the thread.

If you see only that phrase, you're fine - it didn't find any invalid addresses. If you see any addresses after that phrase, those users have invalid email addresses and the accounts should be deleted or disabled.
