Extra Profile Fields Page

You can find the 3.6.x version of this hack here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=123253).

This product will add a new page to the User CP for easy editing of specially marked profile fields, that for one reason or another you would like to split off from the main list. NOTE: Any fields marked for this page will not be seen in the user's profile. A mod I'll release later on will create a tab for them, fully editable like the "About Me" tab.

After the product is FULLY installed, when a you want to move a profile field to the new page for easy editing:

1. Go to the AdminCP and edit the field as normal.
2. At the bottom in the Display Page area, you will see "Which page displays this option?" The last option should say Options: $vbphrase[extra_options].
3. Save!

Personally, I use this page for PC specs, but it can also be used for other specs as well (e.g. cars). With an ADDITIONAL product (e.g. NOT this one), I place these specs in a dropdown list under the user title in each user's post, as well as in their profile as an extra tab.

If you have a 3.6.x version of this on your forum and are running 3.7.0, please uninstall it via running backwards through the old instructions, and then follow the Install instructions.

To Install:
1) Save the attached product-wired1_epfp.xml file.
2) Navigate to AdminCP -> Plugins & Products -> Manage Products -> [Add/Import Product]
3) Browse to wherever you saved the file.
4) Allow Overwrite -> Yes.
5) Import!
6) Follow the instructions for the manual edits (1 template edit, 1 PHP page edit)

The install process should only take 5 minutes at most.

extra_options_updated - Simple message posted after you hit the SAVE button on the page.
edit_extra_options - Name of UserCP link
extra_options - Shows up in various places, mostly on the title of the extra page, as well as in the profile field selection area (see pics above for more info)

3.0.1 - Added header to edit page, cached templates, redirect now goes back to edit page

To uninstall a previous version (pre vB 3.7.0) of this mod, simply reverse the old instructions and edits!

Installed the 3.6 version on 3.7, but I can't quite remember what happened but I stopped using it. The extra profile fields still show up on the user profile (I think it's only viewable to admins) - any ideas on how to remove it?

If these extra fields can be on a seperate 'tab' when viewing their profile this will be an excellent addition to my board and will go straight back on! I look forward to seeing the images.

I did those edits and went back over them a second time to make sure they were right. I would love to download your other mod too so I can get that drop down menu in users postbits, but I am stuck right now....:(

I used it to fix an issue with the "timeslips" hack I had installed way back when I had Vb3.0.
After upgrading to 3.7.0, I lost the "edit vehicle profile" function in that hack. (It would take a selected block of custom fields for a timeslip database and make it so the user could edit them as a group separate from the regular profile)
The sorting still worked, however the user had to sort thru all custom fields to change anything with the timeslip hack. Your hack allowed me to re-create the "Edit your Vehicle Profile Info" function (with working link to same) and I edited the phrases to suit my needs. So I guess I am using this as a "patch" for another hack and it was just what I needed....

I'll use the rest of it when you finish/release it....

I think people are getting confused by the example shown. If you bother to read carefully, it's explained pretty clearly what this mod does.

Why not just change the var to a .= instead of a = and then change the query to pull all categories and sections within a table where the categories are made. From there it's just a matter of editing what's inserted in the usercp shell and then recoding the query on your custom page. But your custom page can be based on a request so that your query doesn't have to be edited too much.

Search turns out was a typo all along, easy to implement. The 3.6.x page has the code near the end of the thread. I'll add it here, or add it in somehow later. Multiple pages / tabs is also on the schedule, probably this weekend. Easy way: duplicate code. Correct way: recode some stuff :)

To Wired: Would you please so kindly to tell me: How it's possible to prevent the page switching to the UserCP, after the Settings have been saved. Know what I mean? Let's start an example...

1. Currently I'm on the vbulletin/profile.php?do=extra page
2. After pressing the Save Button the Redirect appears to save the settings
3. After saving the page returned to vbulletin/usercp.php

And exactly the last point I'd like to know how it works. So I'm not sure but I believe it has something to do with that Code below. Especially the last "else" statement...

I was going to use the VB_garage mod for our motorbike club site, but ti's not compatible with 3.7

Great hack anyway. Hope somebody can look into images side of it.Well that'd be me since it's my mod :) However, this mod is purely for the input page, so you'd use a different mod to display the image. In this mod, all you'd do is create a profile field that would take in the URL.

When I fix it in a future version :)There's no fix needed, because I have deleted that Code. The lines starting with 'gotopassword' makes no sense and is really not needed. Unless there exist an hidden Form Field 'gotopassword' and its value is '1'. After the User is being redirected to the Page to change his password. Without these lines it works perfectly ;)

Well that'd be me since it's my mod :) However, this mod is purely for the input page, so you'd use a different mod to display the image. In this mod, all you'd do is create a profile field that would take in the URL.

I'm trying not to sound too thick here, and really appreciate your help and understand it's not part of your mod, BUT I know how to add a custom profile field, but getting it to allow the insertion of an image has stumped me.

Already tried that. Will not display image. Would be much easier to use a mod that has a full editor with insert image option OR an upload option, or something along those lines.

What I want is an option for my members along the lines of vb garage, but vb garage will not work on my site.

Dear Wired1, I thank you for this great mod from the bottom of my heart, but it still needs some modifications for which I'm willing to pay (even though I'd still like them to be packed in this mod).

You can see what your page on my site looks like here (http://www.topsynergy.net/profile.php?do=extra) (use test/test to log in). In short, it is one big mess (and this is only the start:)) that can be organized in no time with your talented hands.

Required changes:

1. Field display order by "category order" / "field order"

2. Allow wrapping of field title, so it will be consistent with templates for outer and inner widths.

3. Allow to place a border around all fields that belong to the same category.

4. Allow category title to be output as that region's title.

5. Allow category description output below the category title.

6. Allow disabling border around each field.

7. Allow field description to be output below field title.

8. Mark category title as a bookmark so we can refer members to the specific region on the page via the URL.

9. This is a nice-to-have feature: place a "save" button beneath each category region.

10. Another nice to have: allow us to define a path to an include or cron file that is executed after data has been commited to the database, with a parameter of userid or username.

Please let me know a.s.a.p. how do you feel about making these modifications.

I was just hopping that if you could packaged it into the product, I won't have to make ANY customizations to it every time there's a new version upgrade, and just rely solely on your MOD.

Updated to VB 3.7.2, now I have lost all my extra fields.

They are showing on the site, but from admincp/User Profile Fields/User Profile Fields Manager I can only see category 1 which is everything in the normal profile area.
Cat 2 is my garage (which is what I'm using extra fields for) and nothing is showing.

It's the only place affected. The table in db are there, it's there on the site with all correct details, just admin cp missing.


Any ideas ?

I'm having a strange problem.

I go to:

ACP --> User Profile Fields --> User Profile Field Manager

...but the user profile fields for my system specs aren't there. I added one not so long ago, so I have no idea why they aren't showing. Even better, they still show on the extra_options page and everything is working fine. Any ideas?

I have 2 categories and right now, all fields show up together. It would be great to divide them up with maybe the title of the Categories, perhaps in different tables or divs on the page.

Got it all working no problems....
But when I selected an existing field I wanted to make into 'extra options', although it shows in a new tab (using the other mod listed) and the extra options mod works, it has disappeared from 'user profile fields?)..complete with its ID number!

So I added a new one and tried again, that is also not visible in there (to edit) but is visiblt in my forum user control panels?

Any ideas on where I can find them?! :)

Ive got the mod working but the 'extra option' profile fields are not showing up in the Admin CP once I have created them.
So, if I create a field called 'test' and put it in the Extra Options group, it shows up fine in the users control panel and in the drop down from the username (different mod I know) but when I got to 'User Profile Fields' in the admin CP it does not show in there?

So ID number 5 is currently missing from there, and also 6 and 7?

Please tell me how I can find them or get them back because I want to delete 2 of them that were only for testing

How hard would it be to make the contents of the Extra Profile Fields Tab, clickable? I have other uses for the addon. I did download & install the Dropdown in Postbit, it works great, but it wont work for me unless the drop down contents are clickable. Leaving the Extra Profile Fields Tab in place is working great for me, but wish they were clickable to send members and guest to external pages. I have tried a few ideas to get it to function they way I wish it to, but I cant seem to get it right. I will keep trying. Thanks

Search turns out was a typo all along, easy to implement. The 3.6.x page has the code near the end of the thread. I'll add it here, or add it in somehow later. Multiple pages / tabs is also on the schedule, probably this weekend. Easy way: duplicate code. Correct way: recode some stuff :)Have the multiple tabs been implemented yet? Been over it more than twice now and still unable to see the system specs..That's because this mod doesn't do what you want. It's only what it says it is and not what you are looking for. That's another mod. Check my profile for other mods I've made that may or may not do what you're looking for.

In short: no. This is purely a cleaner way to edit profile fields on their own page. This does not make extra permissions around profile fields. Can you expand on why you'd only want certain users to edit their profile fields?

Just mentioned before, some usergroups users shouldn't be allowed to
setup addtional fields. the normal fields from vbulletin are ok but even
not the more with your add-on.

usergroup without that permission for using "more fields" or without the
feature of shown their "more fields" are miserables, inactive users and
users with bouncing emails.

This doesn't create more fields, it just separates the edit area for profile fields that you mark into a new page. If you need profile fields to be limited by user groups, I'd contact Jelsoft.

in the userCP template responsible for making the menu on the left side (I don't know which off the top of my head) I added a conditional that checked the usergroup (you can find out how to do that here somewhere, it is trivial) and added an element in that to display the link to the extra profile fields edit/update page. On that page, you can also add a check for that usergroup, and deny access unless they have permission, but I didn't bother in my application.

Solved this myself, put brackets around the "form = 0 OR form = 6" bit, which makes the complete code edit of memberlist.php for the search function:

i have a very strange problem since i updatet from 3.7.x to 3.8.x.

i m using TMS together with this hack. i decided to deinstall this hack from our forums beacause it was not used very often.
i removed the Template edits and the the product. but now i till have the Extra Profile Fileds when new users try to register on the page.

i don't know how to remove them.

could someone please help me out with this?

It has nothing to do with the mod. You have enabled the profile fields to show upon registration. Turn that off for each profile field.

If you didn't change the profile fields back to a normal edit page before uninstalling the mod, you'll have to reinstall the mod in order to see the profile fields in the AdminCP again. After removing the fields from registration, change them back to normal edit pages, and then uninstall it again.

You need to edit the php files again. You could remove the info via the DB, but I'd recommend just editing the PHP, and then deleting the file from the User Profile Field Manager.

I'm thinking this could be what I'm after - but I need to ask a few questions before I install.

1) How do I do a Date field?
(drop-down calendar array like in the Calendar where fieldname is date1[month] date1[day] date1[year] // or is there a cool dropdown calendar class?)

2) How can I make it so that "adds" fields as they need them?
(i.e. like adding a new row with the same column headings)

Layout Issue and Searchable Fields?

I have some layout issues in both FF and IE8 when viewing the "Edit Extra Options" page.

1. In FF the profile field boxes are pushed to the right of the page and multi-line boxes show outside the right border a little. (See screenshot)

2. In IE8 a similar layout problem is seen. Again the boxes are pushed to the right. (see screenshot)

MAJOR PROBLEM:
3. All my fields that are moved to this extra page are no longer searchable on the members list even though they are set that way! This is a major problem. How can I get these fields that are moved to be searchable again???

U updated my post to have the screenshots. What I get for posting so late at night! ;) The fields are pushed to the right in FF and IE. I need them set to the left border. My fields at 80 wide.

The problem is in latest FF IE Safari etc. Not sure why but again how can I get the wasted space removed on the left.

Your own screenshot seems to show the fields set way off to the right! Great for fields that are very short.... but not everyone will use short fields and I guess will have the same layout problem.

Solved this myself, put brackets around the "form = 0 OR form = 6" bit, which makes the complete code edit of memberlist.php for the search function:

How can I get them moved to the left side please?Ok, did some quick testing with a normal profile field set to a field length of 80 within the standard Additional Information area. See pic below:

Basically, the space within the red box is dynamic depending on the browser's width. In my case I use a widescreen, so there's more spacing there. The blue box outlines the standard border. The EPFP uses standard vBulletin code to display the profile fields in a separate page. This is why the problem exists both in a standard profile field area as well as in the EPFP.

One option would be to lower the profile field length to a smaller number. This doesn't affect the character size of the variable itself, only the viewable size when editing it. Ultimately it's a limitation of the forum software itself in how it shows the editable area and overlaps the border.

The wording in not clear to me.Haven't tested his code myself, but yes, that's exactly what it should do. All that code does is allow the forum to be able to see the profile fields within the EPFP. From there standard profile field parameters would apply.

Ok I follow you. Should be an easy fix to just make the fields a little shorter and if needed multi line input so more is viewable.

I would have rather done one edit to a template of a file to try and get the space on the right removed but reediting 100 fields will work! UGGGG LOL

We use your mod to make an extensive member question section in a new tab due to the nature of our site.

I checked and couldn't find what I was looking for.

Basically, there's going to be x amount of different sets of profile fields.

For example...

1.1
1.2
1.3
1.4
------
2.1
2.2
2.3

And so on, but we wish to have say set 1 on one page and then set 2 on another, to make the profile fields less cluttered on one page.

Can you help me with this? I would be grateful if you could. :)

IIRC the vB 3.8.x page already shows you how to create a 2nd page (I believe someone attached a 2nd page mod to the thread). Either way I'm working on making the vB 4.0 version be easier to use in the sense of unlimited pages (e.g. it'll use new tables).

Can you tell me which parts would need conditionals to hide both the new tab and if that is hidden would the normal option just reappear in the left nav ? if so where do i need to add conditionals to hide this also

Nothing's hidden in the first place, so if you put a conditional around the edit in the USERCP_SHELL template, the page will disappear. If there's no data in there, the tab won't show up.
