Casual visitors viewing attachments?

Is there a to prevent casual (non authenticated) users viewing attachments (images) in forum posts? (in Forum Viewing Permissions I have 'Can Download Attachments' set to no)

EDIT: I just realised that the setting above works, but not on my PC, presumably because of cookies, for which I extended the time out (even though I am not logged in).

I tried it on another PC and when I clicked on an attachment I was prompted to log in.

when you are granted the access to a file via attachment, your download is cached in your browser, so even if you logout, you will see that attachment until you clear the cache...
