like /identify and the password, so the users can auto register on the irc channel

Cool :D

About time someone made a new vb irc integration mod and actually kept it up to date!

A few things that I've hacked into my vbjirc install that I'm sure more members would find useful:

Being able to add pjirc applet params in the config. There are a massive amount of variables used to configure pjirc, giving users more access to these would make this a lot more popular. Simple things from the basics like making it so people can't leave certain channels to completely skinning the applet, having the default blue on a theme that isn't the same colours just looks ugly. Also being able to change the applet width, there's no problems with it being set to a percentage if you're using a fluid theme. Obviously these can all be changed in the template, but would be handy to have them in the options.
Different params depending on usergroups? Restricting channels/colours/smilie usage if they're a guest, giving more options depending on other groups, etc.
Nick/ident checking before connecting. One thing where vbjirc fails is it doesn't rewrite the nick names if they're not irc compatible. Obviously every network is different, so this really has to be something set by the administrator. You obviously can't connect to a server with spaces in your nick, and on some networks you can't connect if your nickname starts with a number.
Multiple servers. Most major networks have more than one, and will only allow connection from ones closest geographically. For someone who doesn't know about IRC, having the client cycle through several different servers if it doesn't connect the first time would make life easier. All of these are just ideas, in reality 90% of my users never heard of irc (Even though our community started there, and grew into a forum..) and still find it a bit too complex!

Restricting channels is not possible from the client side I think. This would require usergroup bitfields which I have no clue how to use. Smilies and colors cannot be limited as far as I can see.
Or I can just add
<param name="authorizedjoinlist" value="none+$vboptions[ezirc_allowlist]">

which will only work properly if set up properly.

Hmm I thought I did this somewhere in 1.0.4, maybe it deleted itself cause I run on a live board, not a debug one.
I will readd this in 1.0.7

If so were in the configuration could I do this?

Yep, that's how you restrict them in pjirc, I'm just saying it would be cool to be able to allow different user groups different options. There's no time like now to learn about bitfields eh? :D

Adding a vBulletin option for extra default configuration values can set this up quite easily, do you just mean the normal pjirc config?

Just a field in the vb config to be able to output more configuation options for pjirc. Just means the admin doesn't have to make template edits to get the effect he or she wants.

Not sure how mIRC got involved since none of this is mIRC related, but a few IRC owners stated that none of this is ran server side other than the HTML so there is no possible security issue there.

Thank you for the mod. I am having trouble with it interacting with my Photo Post integration with VB though. If the mod is activated it throws errors on the Photo Post entry page as follows:

Warning: require_once(./includes/functions_showthread.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in \gallery\header-inc.php on line 98

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required './includes/functions_showthread.php' (include_path='.;C:\php5\pear') in \gallery\header-inc.php on line 98

From what I can tell it looks like it is messing around with the user sessions but I am not sure. What in the mod could cause it to alter the integration with other scripts or with the user sessions?

Thank you for you time.

I've never seen this problem before with my mod. But if I had to take a guess, it looks like your photopost configuration is incorrect. It may also be that EzIRC has a "$path" variable which I should change to $ezirc[path]

I've got vB3.6.10. Will it work with that version of vB?

I've also got a home page built with vBadvanced CMPS. I assume that won't get in the way.
Edit: I wrote this before I went to your site and saw that you're using vBa as well.

I've got a user with a space in his user name. It sounds as if 1.0.7 will accommodate that.

Also, I've never used a mod from vBorg before. This one says it uses a plugin. I assume that means I can back it out from the admin panel if I have to deal with vB support on something and they ask me to.

Also, as new versions come out, let's say 1.0.8 or 1.0.9, how do I upgrade the mod? Do I back everything out and reinstall the new one??

Dunno if it'll work with 3.6.10. Haven't tried, but it should.

1.0.7 will make sure that all usernames are acceptable.

It uses plugins to update the forum instead of using many PHP files and edits.

All you do to upgrade is to reupload & overwrite the product from the Products & Plugins area.

That's determined by your server, unless you're talking about the loading time of the app itself?

toonysnn

Ident is not mainly handled by the client, it must be allowed by the user, then processed in the server and then a result sent back to the client saying that it's good to connect.

I'm intrested in the usernames appearing like this;

Brundlefly (Site)

Since none of my website users have the same name, there should be no duplication. Is this possible.

I do appreciate your work on this.

Thanks in advance.

Okay everyone, here's just a status on 1.0.7. It's been scrapped. I'm just recreating EzIRC cause the code has gotten a tad messy and could be rewritten.

I'll post a status update later next week.

I have a problem. :)

As I use this modification, I can't acess some pages with the configurations, but they are not also in the Configurations Page in the ACP.

My app returns an error when users with a "!", "." or something in the nickname enter. The error says the nickname is erroneous because it has illegal carachters. After a conversation with my IRC provider, we found the solution:

What you need to do is strip . and !'s from the nick, IRC cannot support usernames with .'s because thats used in server names, and it cant allow !, because thats used as the seperator between the nick and the host.

If using PHP, you can try the following code on the nick before it is passed to PJIRC.

This code assumes the users nick is stored in the variable "$nick", and replaces .! with underscores:

$nick = str_replace(array('!','.'), '_', $nick);

Could you help? Where am I supposed to insert this? :)

Thanks and congratulations for the excelent mod!

Do you envision that the new EzIRC will work and look pretty much like the one you had on your site?

Will the new one have some accommodation for forum user names with embedded spaces? (Some sort of workaround that would replace spaces with something like underlines or hyphens might work. The space things seems like a daunting obstacle. I'm sort of guessing that working on that issue is what convinced you to scrap it and start over.)

Is there any chance of its working with 3.6.10 for those of us not quite ready to enter the 3.7 bugland?

Also, can we go ahead and install 1.0.6 in the mean time, just to get oriented to it?

Sorry it's taking a while for 1.0.7, I've recently got into the paid requests and have been busy since. I will work on 1.0.7 as soon as I finish this $1000 job I've been hired for (Not posted on vB.org, contact over Yahoo! messenger)

Yeah, it'll be like the one on my site. Guests will be able to have the option to enable/disable in 1.0.7 too (Usergroup permissions)

Smilies will be automatically used from vBulletin if I can get them to work in EzIRC (I'll take code from the Admin CP's Smilies page if I have to)

espesso, I'm sorry but I cannot provide support from that image. It's in dutch or german and I do not speak or read either of those.

I'm attempting to install 1.0.6.

This may be a dumm question, but the readme.txt for 1.0.6 says "upload the folder provided." I'm assuming that refers to the file called "upload." I'm assuming further that the files and subfolders in "upload" and not the "upload" folder itself get uploaded: is that correct?

To where are they uploaded? I'm running vBadvanced and that vBa home page is in the root and not the forum. There's an index.php and an index.html in the upload folders, but I've already got an index.php file in both my root and in the forum folder. They both have stuff I wouldn't want to overwrite.

I've already imported the file 'product-ezirc.xml' via the Produce Manager.

toonysnn: I know you had this working on your site that you had with vbAdvanced. Any ideas? Also, I'm curious: how does it know to go to the irc service I'm using?

Edit: I've uploaded the irc.php file and the irc folder to the root where my vBa stuff sits. That now looks like the wrong place, because the irc.php file has this line in it:
require_once('./global.php');

Maybe the file and folder should be uploaded to the forum folder. I'll try it there.

Edit2:

I've moved the irc.php and the irc folder into the forum folder. Now I can get to chat from my forum home page, but I get HTTP 404 - File not found when I click the menu item on my vBadvanced home page.

Three things I'm considering:

1. Maybe I need to do something with the menu code in my navbar, maybe with a
if condition="THIS_SCRIPT in the navbar to accommodate the vBA home page (I'm going to work on separate menus for the home page and the forum pages anyway)

2. Maybe I need to change what's in the include:
require_once('./global.php'); to an absolute address.

3. Maybe I need to add some variable that EZIRC uses (what are they?) to Portal Output Global Variables in my default setting for vBadvanced.

toonysnn: You had your chat running on a site that had a vBadvanced home page. Any ideas on any of this?
Also, I've got vbirc. How does it know to go there instead of some other service?

I'll look for that thing to fix links you mentioned to make it work from the vBa home page.

Right now I can access irc chat from the main forum page, but my big problem is that I'm going to the wrong irc. I've created a channel on vbirc and have my forum administrator's username set up as moderator on the irc channel, but when I get to chat from the menu after installing ezirc, it puts me on a different chat: it says irc.ircdotnet.net. Which values can I change to get it to point to vbirc. Should I be looking at that xml file?

Also, what happened to that great web site you had up?

XEN Nickname is already in use.
-- *** No ident response

When the user types /QUOTE etc. it disconnects them.

Even if their username is standard alphanumeric (e.g. Dan123) Some users get:

Some users are getting Ident issues, or it says their usernames are invalid:
Your username is invalid.

If your mail address were foo@bar.com, your username would be foo.

I'm using Undernet as you can see. Is this the problem? These users were able to connect fine using standalone IRC clients like mIRC and Xchat. I've had about 20 users try so far and only 10-12 were able to connect using the java client. Thanks.

Hello vBulletin.org,

I am only here to visit for the time being, I am having issues in real life with high school starting (third week, being a freshman) and with trying to keep up with my job requests.

I cannot guarantee this but I believe later this month I'll be able to release a new release of all my modifications and possibly some new ones.

I do have more important things rather than updating free modifications compared to my normal jobs.

I appreciate those of you who understand that being in school, managing your time as a administrator of several boards, and having jobs from online customers is very hard.

No the fact is you ignored the question as it was never answered or even acknowledged.

What you have going on IRL is irrelevant to that fact.

Well it looks like you're partially right. I added the .pixx mime type set to applicate/octet-stream restarted the iis service, but the problem still occurred, I then read the KB article you included, it says to add a wildcard mime time for testing purposes only. I did that and it fixed he problem... so now my question is how can I tell which mime type it's trying to call for that isn't in the mime list?

Are you by chance running a mac? I have seen an update flicker issue on the most recent macbook, but have been unable to reproduce that on Windows Vista or XP. I haven't yet tried THIS mod, but I'm still using the old vbxirc mod which also uses Pjirc.

Maybe an issue with what version of the Java runtime the mac uses? Hmm.

I downloaded the program. The entire install instructions were "To install this product, you need to import the file 'product-ezirc.xml' via the product manager, and upload the folder provided". I did both, uploading the folder to the forum root directory since nothing else was specified.

No IRC. I got a button on the navbar that takes me to an error "The requested file http:\ was not found on this page". There are no configuration instructions that I can find, anywhere. Obviously you guys got it working with no trouble so can you please tell me where I went wrong? Please be specific as I am VERY new to this stuff.

Works in 3.8.

To add an undernet server go to vB options, ezirc options.
Under irc host add the undernet info, will be something like irc.undernet.org.
Then under irc channel add your chat channel, it'll look something like #mychat, (replace mychat with whatever your chat channel is called).

Open up the .xml file in a text file search for width640 or just '640' that will be the width. Change it to 100% and the height to 632 which works nicely.

Awesome to see vbirc.com in the list. I hope it helps a lot of site owners to get chat on their site to quick connect open network where we allow bots and give irc support, etc.

I hope some beginning networks are interested in offering and supporting this plugin and grow, and work together with us. irc is epic win, all the time :)

We're constantly recommending site owners to go check out this mod for their vb powered site.

When I go out of chat and other user enters, he is an @, and when I return to the chat, I have no @. I can not change it. And I am a forum administrator.
On irc.vbirc.com you become "founder" of the channel and when you return and identify to your nick you will get founder access again. We also support no expiry setting on the channel.

if the network you're on has nickserv and chanserv, register your nickname, then register the channel. Then upon return, identify to nickserv and you're set.
