Please explain what you want in more detail. That can mean a lot of things.

okay erm basically where the catergory is, such as
"entertainment" then below is topics etc...
on the entertainment bit, how can you make it rounded?
It is hard to explain, shall I provide a screen shot?
if so, am I allowed to edit the screenshot pointing arrows etc.. to show then post it on here?

It appears as that user has used an image. That would be how I would go about it, but I am not sure if you can do it code wise.

No, I haven't tried any. What was the result when you tried the mod that you linked to? It looks pretty straight forward - just a different image used as a background in three parts.

I ain't very bright at times lol, but the result was that it just does do anything except for make the category height wider... The bit in bold, what do you mean :S?
Do you get what they mean when it says:
"You may need to change the padding in tcat_text to match your image."
Change text, I know what part of the code to change, but to match my image, what image? :S?

Well, you are using three different div tags. The first encompasses the whole width. Then you put one aligned left for the left corner, then one right for the right corner. If you aren't getting anything, perhaps you didn't put your images in the correct place. Make sure they exist at the path you defined them to be in in your css.
