Check custom field of another user

when a user visits a profile page, I want to check if the user whose profile is currently viewed has a custom profile field set and want to read its value.

How can I do that?

If you have your Profile Field set to "Edit Your Details" for the Display Page, then it shows up under the About Me tab on their profile.
