vBulletin 3.7.x Official Integration & Authentication Extension
Product Info
Name: AddonChat Official Integration Product
Product ID: ac80_37
Version: 3.7.0
Author: AddonInteractive (http://www.addoninteractive.com/)
Last Modified: 15 May. 2008
Compatibility: vBulletin 3.7.x
Overview
This extension allows you to fully integrate a AddonChat Free, Professional, Professional PLUS or Enterprise Java? Chat Room with your vBulletin 3.7 forum system. This script provides basic integration for AddonChat Free and Professional customers. Remote authentication (the ability to secure access to your chat room using your vBulletin username/passwords) is available for Pro+/Enterprise customers, as well as a Who's Chatting feature.
Requirements
vBulletin 3.7 or higher
AddonChat Free, Professional PLUS, or Enterprise, or AddonChat Professional with the Remote (HTTP) Authentication System. You may register for a AddonChat account at www.addonchat.com (http://www.addonchat.com). A Professional PLUS or Enterprise account is recommended to take advantage of advanced features.
(optional, but recommended) PHP with allow_url_fopen directive enabled in your php.ini file or the PHP CURL extension. This is required to download the Who's Chatting list from AddonChat servers. What's new?
This script is a completely revamped edition of our previous integration script. Installation no longer requires any template or code modifications. Additionally, there are no PHP files to edit when setting up your chat room. We have added an "AddonChat" menu item in the vBulletin AdminCP that allows you to setup and configure your chat room with ease. Most users will simply need to enter their account number and password (as used at addonchat.com) and your chat room settings will be retrieved automatically, with your remote authentication system updated automatically as well. We have also improved character code support through better UTF-8 conversion allowing non-English speakers to use a vBulletin+AddonChat without issue. Issues relating to the Who's Chatting system causing problems have also been addresses; a scheduled task has been added to automatically optimize and repair AddonChat related tables daily in addition to improvements to the re-written Who's Chatting system.

There have been numerous reports of issues with the old integration script (for VB 3.5, VB 3.6) not working on VB 3.7, hence the new release.
If you're using an older release, the biggest advantage you'll notice is that the plugin now ties directly in to your vBulletin usergroup permissions. So, no more editing a chat_global.php file, instead you just click over to the Usergroup manager to specify the AddonChat privileges for each of your usergroups. There are over twenty-five different options, so there is also much finer user-permission control in this release as well.
If you're using the Pro edition, I'd suggest either going to the Pro+ edition, or getting the remote auth. module to take advantage of this.
This script also doesn't require any template modifications as the previous release did -- so installation is very fast, and it can be uninstalled easily as well without having to edit any styles/templates.
There are lots of other improvements as well, including full UTF-8 support, and a smarter Who's Chatting system. :)
If you're running VB 3.7 and AddonChat, I strongly recommend using this product.

Unlimited for now with the free edition :) The Pro and Pro+ also allow for unlimited concurrent users.

Nope -- The only thing I suggest is having the allow_url_fopen directive set to 'On' in your php.ini file, but it is not required.
Give it a try with the free edition (most of the plugin features won't work, but you'll have a basic chat room) then eMail us (as per my previous post) and request a trial run to fully test out all of the features :)

I must have the allow_url_fopen directive enabled as it showed me on the list of chatters on testing. Very seemless integration and easy setup. I'm looking forward to testing this out further.
How do we got about editing the background color around the chat window on the page and make the window fit the page better?

Hi Boofo,
What you'll want to do is edit the applet background color from the AddonChat control panel. Login at http://www.addonchat.com/login.html and click over to Look & Feel -> Colors to edit this. Color selection is fairly limited for our free accounts.
The page itself uses your standard vBulletin templates for the header/footer and other related content, so if you really want to change the background color of the page itself, you'd have to modify vB style settings. I'd recommend just modifying the AddonChat colors to match the background instead :)

We've tested the 3.7 integration script with Arabic without issue. It's possible you do not have the font set up correctly to display Arabic characters within the chat room; but it's hard to know as you didn't provide any information.
Please submit a support ticket including your account number, and a valid username/password to test with by eMailing support@addonchat.com.

I got the size figured out in the settings. I will log in their and set what I can figure out. Thank you, sir. ;)
I do have one suggestion though. I have a skin that uses a different class for the link in the navbar. The way you have the link template done, it screws up the listing in the drop down menu if I change the class. It looks like the template is not done like the other drop downs in the navbar. Otherwise, things are looking good. ;)

Boofo -- You may have to edit the addonchat_nav_link template to get it to match your custom template. Some custom styles seem to be doing some fairly exhaustive template modifications instead of just changing the associated CSS with the <TD> column. Usually it's just a matter of getting the addonchat_nav_link <td...> values to look similar to your other nav link settings.

Yeah -- Just as I suspected, you have a free account. Request a trial upgrade (see my previous post concerning this) and then follow the instructions at http://support.addoninteractive.com/index.php?action=kb&article=63 to display Arabic characters properly. You may also wish to modify your VB phrases (those that begin with 'addonchat') to translate the integration script output from English to Arabic.

Well, the way the TD is wrapping everything I think it was the problem is. It seems to affect the rest of the template if I change the class on the first TD. And since I suck at html, it is boggling the ol' mind. But I will eventually figure something out, one way or the other. ;)

Any difference between this mod and flashchat?
Boofo
05-16-2008, 06:03 AM
A lot of differences. For one, this is hosted on their servers so no server issues on your end whereas flashchat can start getting server intensive with a few users on, from what I have heard.
I've experienced quite some serverload when using Flashchat (with about 10-15 people using it). Would this one be better?
I have to look on your site later today, but do users make mods for this product (like "who's chatting" blocks)?
Boofo
05-16-2008, 01:10 PM
Yes, as it is hosted on their server.
Also, the templates for this hack need to be cached.

Many (most?) Flash and AJAX chat applications use your web server for all incoming/outgoing chat messages. This requires constant polling, and places a lot of stress/load on your web server and database. These connections are not real-time socket connections.
AddonChat uses a real (stateful) chat server, and is hosted on our server farm. When a user connects, he/she has a direct socket connection to our chat servers which maintain state without constant polling of web servers and databases. It is much faster, and our chat rooms can easily accommodate hundreds of concurrent users.
Put simply, there is no additional server load on your system -- we host and manage everything. Our servers are built to handle any potential issue; they all have dual CPU's, redundant (RAID) drives, and we have standby systems for every server. We optimize our operating systems specifically for chat servers.
We've been doing this for many years now. Our clients range from single family's who use our chat room for occasional "get-togethers" to Fortune 500 clients, major news networks, and election campaigns.

Do you think all of the templates should be cached, or just the navbit that is displayed throughout the forum?
Boofo
05-16-2008, 01:39 PM
Here is what I did. I added this to the cache_templates hook:
$aoctemplates = array(
'addonchat_embed',
'addonchat_nav_link',
'addonchat_popup',
'addonchat_who',
'addonchat_who_bit'
);
$globaltemplates = array_merge($globaltemplates, $aoctemplates);
That catches the popups and any others in use anywhere.

I like it. Thank you. I'll add it to the next minor update, though I think we'll limit it to just the addonchat_nav_link and the addonchat_who_bit -- these two will help speed up the system; the others though are only used when the addonchat.php script is called, or the addonchat_who.php script is called; so caching them throughout the entire site isn't necessary and may slow your site down.
We're still working with a couple people who have highly modified forums (most are using scripts that aren't taking advantage VB's product system, and require lots of manual code and/or template modifications) -- but never the less, we're seeing what we can do to help work-around some of these not-so-friendly mods :) I imagine we'll have another minor update out in a few weeks.
For everyone else reading who isn't a coder, don't worry about this now :)
Thank you again, Boofo!
Boofo
05-16-2008, 02:22 PM
Well, I would add them all as the Who's chatting will get used a lot and that isn't going to slow the site down at all just caching the three other ones.
Also, the 'Link Chat to Forum - User Profiles' and 'Link Chat to Forum - Find Posts By User' links give me an error page. I haven't checked the other ones yet. I am using the Pro PLUS now.
Can I show this part to forumhome?
I really like the feature that it was hosted to somebody else not my server.

That's OK, you can still use and set up the plug-in without the automatic-lookup feature. The only feature you won't be able to make use of is the Who's Chatting system, so I would recommend disabling the AddonChat Who's Chatting script from Scheduled Tasks in your AdminCP.
Short of that, if you're using remote authentication, the only thing you'll need to do is copy/paste the remote authentication URL shown in your AddonChat menu to your AddonChat account control panel under Settings -> Site Integration -> Remote Authentication :)

The integration script has been updated. If you are currently using this script or the release candidate and are not having issues, you do not need to upgrade.
The update made today addresses the following issues:
Script conflict issues with vBCredits plugin have been resolved
Integration script will now use the CURL extension if allow_url_fopen directive is disabled.
Navigation and template bits are now cached to provide slight performance boost. If you do intend to upgrade, please uninstall your current AddonChat product from the AdminCP, download, and re-install this product. When uploading files via FTP, allow older files to be overwritten.

One issue though: navbar is far behind on showing the correct number of users in the chat. It adds new users alright but doesn't deduct kicks, log offs, etc. until quite a few seconds later, even after refreshing page.

Usually this only happens during initial testing when you're logging in/out repeatedly while adjusting settings and ensuring everything works. When used with remote authentication, the user count is automatically incremented; under normal circumstances this provides a fairly accurate update to the amount of user's chatting until the next scheduled task is run or any user clicks the Who's Chatting link; at which time a complete list of users in the chat room is updated. If you think it will be an issue after initial setup/testing, please let me know the circumstances so we can work out a resolution in the next update.

Sounds like you're using a custom template that is, for some reason ignoring our navbit -- if your templates are out of date, you should update them. Otherwise, we'd likely have to add it ourselves. Simply submit a support ticket including your account number by eMailing support@addonchat.com -- send our technicians your AdminCP login info and we'll see what we can do :)

Sorry I haven't replied to this one yet -- they all should work, they were tested thoroughly with the release-candidate. The only caveat being that cookies must be enabled on the end-user's browser as there is no way to pass the PHP session information through the chat room at the present time. Aside from that, the functions merely require that the URL set in your AddonChat settings match your board URL; all of which should have been set automatically during setup.
If you don't think that is the problem, please submit a support ticket and we'll gladly look into it :)
Boofo

You haven't given me much to go on, so I'm going to assume your templates are either out of date or you're using a custom template that isn't respecting the VB template hooks.
If you want to do it yourself, I'd use the addonchat nav template as a guide, possibly manually paste it into your main navbar template in the location you'd like it. You may have to edit it to match any customizations to your navbar table. I really can't help much more without actually seeing the problem. The script as-is should automatically integrate itself into the menu provided you're using a VB 3.7 compatible template.

If I understand correctly, you want to show a list of Who's Chatting in a box -- not the chat room itself?
For a who's chatting box, you'd basically just have to query the addonchat_who table (note that the vBulletin table prefix is not used) then parse the data for display -- usually you'd use a template and a cached template bit to display the content.
Here is a generic example of echoing the usernames using VB commands...
$result = "";
$query = "SELECT id,username,subroom,hidden,uid,admin FROM addonchat_who";
$addonchat_who_list = $db->query_read($query);
while($addonchat_who = $db->fetch_array($addonchat_who_list) {
/* This is where you'd build your template guts (using a bit if needed) */
$result .= $addonchat_who['username'] . "<br>\n";
}
/* This is where you'd display your template */
print $result;

Ah, I see -- you're referring to our stock Who's Chatting link code; I thought you were looking for something more VB specific. While I don't recommend it for very popular boards (because it can cause lag) you can still use the same who's chatting link code, or create a new code from your AddonChat control panel in the Settings -> Site Integration -> Who's Chatting section. From that page, set it up how you'd like it to display, then click the button on the bottom of the page to view a sample and get the HTML code.

Been an Enterprise Plus user for well over a year now. Just upgraded to 3.7 and the AddonChat integration updates and improvements are great. Thanks!
One thing I would like in the future now that you have individual usergroup permissions. For those usergroups that cannot access the chat room, can you add another option or make it so the "Chat" section of the Navbar is invisible so they don't even see that option?

We're going to add a "User is Banned from Chat Room" item or similar to the usergroup settings in the next minor update which will override all other settings. I'll also add your suggestion to our development to-do list :) Thank you.

Grim aka Chris is the man to aim for when asking for support! He definitaly assisted our site untill it was all working 100%. Which was a mission from our heavily changed board. Out of the last 3 chats we have offered our members this seems to be the one that everyone liked best so far, we even got chatters campin in there now haha.
Thanks Chris! Will be bugging you shortly about some problems we just found! (minor)

Members liked the speed of your chat but they hated the plain interface after using the systems above.
I'd buy the Pro version if it had "Add your own background images" feature.

Hello,
Full integration with vBulletin should also mean that inactivity time will be measured (optionally) by forum session versus chat session.
Please provide us with this option for better user experience. Thanks.

One thing that is missing in the integration of AddonChat with vBulletin - unlike with all the non-external solutions - is the option to invite another logged-on user on vB to chat.
As I mentioned before, this must-have feature is built in all the other chat & shout products that are not external.
Calling a user to join my chat via PM finds me in a ridiculous position where the user has long logged off the forum without even reading my PM.
Another alternative is to use another product for shouting, but then - what's the point of installing two RC applications?
Please help with this must-have feature. Thanks.

I have multiple forums on my messageboard with a different style than the main/default style. This mod uses the default style, while I want to use this chat with a different set of forums (a different style).
How can I force addonchat to use a different style than the default one?

I have submitted a ticket to already and they are still looking into the issue. I thought to post here as there are some talented coders on vb.org who may have already encountered a soltuion to my issue.
The only problem that I have encounered is that my "Chat Room" link does not work when click while on a PhotoPost page. The issue has to do which link misdirection:
- Link is Currently Going To: http://www.thaibulletin.com/gallery/addonchat.php
- But Should Go To: http://www.thaibulletin.com/forum/addonchat.php
I believe that there is a relative URL somewhere that needs to be fully written out, I think. Any suggetions would be appreciated.
Thanks,

shlomot - Nice suggestions. I'm not sure if we'll be able to update the forum activity timer as the software is remotely hosted, but I do like your invite suggestion and think it won't be too difficult to implement :)
sdavis2702 - Glad everything is going OK :)
TCB - Custom styles shouldn't cause an issue unless there are modifications made to your templates; in that case you may have to edit the addonchat templates to match the customizations you have in place.
madmax1228 - Agree with Boofo; it sounds like your files weren't uploaded.
joeycano - The nav links, by default, are relative links. It sounds like PhotoPost may have modified the template to make the links absolute, but I'm not sure. With the holiday weekend, technical support may be a little backed up, but we'll get to you. If you haven't already; please respond to your ticket with a vB admincp username/password so that may modify your template if needed to resolve this issue.

PhotoPost Issued is now fixed. Here is the solution provided by addonchat top notched tech support:
The issue is definitely related to PhotoPost modifications that require absolutely links. I've modified your addonchat_nav_link template to point directly to addonchat.php and addonchat_who.php at http://thaibulletin.com/forum/
I did a quick test in your photo gallery and everything appears to be working fine now :)

Certainly. In your AdminCP, click over to Styles & Templates -> Style Manager. Expand the Default Style (or the master style you're using). and double-click addonchat_nav_link. Delete all of the code in this template, and replace with:
<if condition="$addonchat[enabled]">
<if condition="$show['popups']">
<td id="addonchat" class="vbmenu_control"><a href="$addonchat[forum_url]/addonchat.php$session[sessionurl]" accesskey="addonchat">$vbphrase[addonchat_nav_link_title] $addonchat[user_count_bracket]</a> <script type="text/javascript"> vbmenu_register("addonchat"); </script>

<tr><td class="thead">$addonchat[user_count] $vbphrase[addonchat_nav_users_in_room]</td></tr>
<tr><td class="vbmenu_option"><a href="$addonchat[forum_url]/addonchat_who.php$session[sessionurl]">$vbphrase[addonchat_whos_chatting]</a></td></tr>

Here is a screenshot of the current chatbox on front page. We expect a large amount of our traffic to be chat. So having it forefront is important.

berben4 - Thank you for the code correction. As far as the link code you require, you can link directly to the chat room from any page on your site (outside of vBulletin) using any of the link codes provided in your AddonChat account control panel (Home -> Chat Room Link Code) and under Settings -> Site Integration -> Who's Chatting you can find the Who's Chatting link code.
dodjer42 - The Chat Box you're using looks like a stateless chat room and functions much differently than AddonChat. While it would be possible to place the chat room on the main page, I wouldn't advise to do so in this manner as whenever the user moves to a a different page, he/she would lose the socket connection. There should be absolutely no performance problems with Firefox 2 -- in fact, we use Firefox 2.0.0.14 on all of our development systems for primary testing under Mac OS-X, Vista, and Win XP.
DiesellMinded - Already on the suggestion list for the 8.1 update. When the feature is available, we'll be sure to include it into the vBulletin integration script.
nwingate - Good suggestion, I'll add it to our list :) Thank you!

Jbear6 -- Yes, you should. It should have been copied over with all of the other files during the initial installation. In the archive, you'll find the file in the upload/includes folder. You may also want to double check that all of the other files in the includes/ folder (including files in the includes/xml and includes/cron folder) have been uploaded as well.

This is the best chat system I have seen yet. I have used jIRC, pIRC and FlashChat and this blows them all away!
There are plenty of user configurable options, it looks better than j/pIRC, it is faster than FlashChat and doesn't expose you to hackers (because it is hosted remotely). I love it!
Although I plan to upgrade to the Pro edition so I can get all of the options, I have been using this for a couple of days with the free version and vBulletin integration and it works just fine.
Grim77
06-08-2008, 02:14 AM
jbear6 -- Glad you got it working :) If you feel that the installation instructions need revising or have any suggestions, please let me know.
andrewc_11890 - You need either CURL or the allow_url_fopen directive enabled. If you're using a hosted service, you'll need to contact your web host provider to enable one of these two options. If you run your own server, the easiest way to get it going is to edit your php.ini file and set allow_url_fopen to On. (allow_url_fopen = On) It's not necessary to have this option enabled for installation or use, but it does make installation a little faster and is required for using the Who's Chatting system.
kefallon - Not sure how that could have happened. I wouldn't recommend removing any files, but rather re-installing the files and making sure they've been copied to the correct location. In this case, it sounds (at the least) as though the addonchat.php file wasn't uploaded to the admincp/ folder.
acorndomains.co - Wonderful! :) Glad everything is working well for you. Just an FYI, we do have a UK division (support@addonchat.co.uk) should you need assistance they may be able to answer enquiries a little faster for you if you're across the pond.
CNibbana - Great to hear! eMail support@addonchat.com with your account number and the service level you think you may be interested in getting, and we'll be happy to give you a two week trial.

I think I did. I got this error:
Error setting remote authentication URL.
This error is most likely caused by entering an incorrect account number, password or an invalid authentication URL. This error can also be caused if you do not have a Professional PLUS or Enterprise account, or if you do not have the Remote Authentication module.
Please verify your account number, password and authentication URL and try your request again.
I don't have the Pro + or Enterprise account.
On Edit:
I didn't realize you had to purchase:
You may then modify chat room permissions from the Usergroups menu in the Admin Control Panel. For this feature to work, you must have purchased the remote authentication module, or have an AddonChat Professional PLUS or Enterprise account.

Hi Grim,
I had a look around at the several options for this functionality. I choos this one for the nice look and feel..
It installed easily, nearly took me 5 minutes.. :)
And quess what it instantly worked great.. ... on other users their computer..
When I try to connect it tells me the servers are busy and I need to try in a few minutes time.. while other people are able to log in and use the functionality perfectly.
I'm using a broadband modem that is connected to a router. Connected to that router are 2 PC's. With both PC's I can work on my own site through a proxy setting. Entering the chatroom though, does not work. Whilst other mebers can. From the PC at work it is also possible to log in. Is there any simple expenation for this?
As an admin I'd sure like to see what is going on in the chat.. simply because that is where a lot of the fun will be.
Kind regards.. Nitro

Hello,
I just recently installed the Add on Chat and it slowed down my forum, and I went to the product manager and disable it and it was back to normal. any ideas why? or how to fix it cause I want to keep using it.

It shouldn't at all. The entire chat service is hosted off-site on AddonChat's servers, making it the ideal scalable solution for "big boards". That said, if your connections or queries are somehow locked/throttled (which is possible on some shared server configurations), you may want to turn off the Who's Chatting functionality to conserve your server resources. Otherwise, anyone on a dedicated server shouldn't notice any increase load, IMO.

No, but it's well worth the price, IMO. At plans beginning at around $80/year (http://www.addonchat.com/products.html), you simply won't find a cheaper controllable chat room out there.

If I'm able to align the chatbox to the left, it would also solve the problem.. Won't look as fancy as centered but on the left there are no pulldown menu's..
Does no one have this problem? I'v gone thrugh the thread.. or am I overlooking a standard vBulletin option here?

Sorry for not responding sooner. Apparently I missed one of the notifications and wasn't aware that recent posts have been made. Just an FYI for everyone -- please eMail us or call us for technical support and questions; it's the best and quickest way to get in touch with us.

Please open up a ticket by eMailing us and provide as much information as possible. I suppose it's possible the issue is related to the 3.7.2PL1 release you're using, but that should not cause a MySQL error. It looks like the message you posted had the SQL cut off.

There is an AddonChat advertisement image in the upper-right hand corner. No other advertising than that. The biggest disadvantage to using the free service is the lack of options. You can request a trial upgrade for two week to test out any service level if you'd like by signing up for a free account and emailing support@addonchat.com with your account number and the service level and modules you'd like to trial.

AddonChat embeds onto any web page, though since it is a full featured chat room and not a simple shoutbox, we recommend giving it it's own page, or better yet, use the popup link option so that your users may chat while they continue to browse your site/forums.
CMPS (vbAdvanced) integration should be fairly simply -- it would just be a matter of editing their menu template to include a direct link to the AddonChat page in your vBulletin forum -- right now though, there hasn't been too many requests for an integration product specifically catered to vBadvanced CMPS -- perhaps in the future if we get some more requests :)

Installed easily and painlessly. Nice mod. One question: Is it possible with the free version to change the name "Chat Lobby" to something else? I have no need for multiple rooms; just looking for a simple chat room. I would prefer it said something other than Chat Lobby though. I looked through the files and couldn't find anything definitive, but then my .php skills are fledgling at best.
Thanks.

Hmmm....not so fast.
While I'm on the chatroom page, it seems that all of my vbulletin links have /addonchat/ as part of them. For example, the forums link, which should be mywebsite.net/forums/index.php shows mywebsite.net/forums/addonchat.php/index.php . When I'm not on the chat page, all links are fine.
I expect it's something I've done wrong somewhere, but I found nothing pertinent in this thread, or I missed it if there is info on this. The chatroom itself works fine. Again, this is the free version.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Thanks.
Edit: I should mention I'm running vBulletin 3.7.0.

Well, further proof that almost all problems such as my above one are caused by the installer and not the script itself. My only problem was a trailing / in the link I built into my navbar. Your answers:
1. Yes, free and unlimited; however for complete secure integration, we do recommend the Pro+ edition.
2. It is hosted on our servers, so you incur no additional bandwidth/server-related fees. The free edition, Pro edition, and Pro+ editions all allow for unlimited concurrent users.
3. With this mod, provided you have the Pro+ edition or higher, you get complete integration with your vBulletin user database, including automatic login and secure remote authentication. You can then control permissions in the chat room from your vBulletin usergroup manager :)
4. UTF-8 is fully supported in this version! We also support right-to-left languages including Arabic and Hebrew.
5. Guest access depends upon how you configure the chat room. But, yes, you can certainly allow guest access (not-registered users)
6. It's possible, but not a standard part of this mod and really not recommended. Since the service is fully hosted by us, and integrates directly on your site -- i.e., your users won't know their chatting on our servers -- using a separate subdomain is not necessary at all.
7. No voice, no webcam. I typically refer people to Digichat.com (we have no affiliation with that company, but I'm happy to tell people where to look) for that. A/V conferencing is somewhat more expensive when done properly, and we find that a lot of our customers find their users just don't want to video conference in their pajamas :D -- For corporate environments though, where you really need A/V or file transfer, I'd try DigiChat.
Again, we do offer two week trials to any service to anyone who asks if you think the free edition won't cover your requirements, just eMail us at support@addonchat.com

We're looking for feature suggestions for the next mod update.
With winter coming up, people tend to spend much more time online, so we try to tell our customers that now is a good time to start trying various chat applications as October through February are the best times of the year to help build your online community with a real-time chat interface.
We've had some requests for multiple chat room support (for users who have more than one chat room) and a couple requests for an option to disallow access from the usergroup editor.
Any other suggestions you may have are appreciated. You can either post them here, or eMail us. We'd like to get another update online here fairly soon :)

You absolutely can use the free chat room :) You don't have to upgrade, but upgrading does provide a great deal more functionality. eMail support@addonchat.com (support@addonchat.com) with your account number if you'd like a trial upgrade.
If you're having problems getting the free room to work, just eMail us and we'll be happy to help!

Great. Tell me what happens. I don't mind buying the Add-on but he said otherwise.
Has anyone else gotten this to work with the free edition?

Using it, it works great and as advertised.
But my users have repeatedly asked for an easy "invite" feature, for when they notice a friend is currently on the board.
I myself would like some sort of chat scheduler with a countdown announcement that automatically displays (and disappears) on forumhome (ie: "Chat party begins in 3 hours 35 minutes")

It seems like the PM system (with pop-up notifications enabled) would be a great way for your users to invite each other to chat. Also, you could easily implement the countdown announcement with vBulletin's Notices feature and a countdown Javascript (you can find this all over the net).

I'm looking for a private moderators only chat add-on, but one which is like a chat room. Whenever a moderator writes something it should pop out to every other moderator, that is online and vice versa. It is needed for better collaboration between moderators so everyone agrees with a certain course of action being chosen. It would be advantageous to have the option to sign in the chat, to show that they are available as moderators. Maybe something like the one in facebook, but for more than 2 persons. I believe permissions will be based on usergroups, so having the same one for regular users will be good too.
I looked through the available ones, but the choice is big and I'm probably not even getting the full list with the search term "chat"
vBulletin? Version 3.7.2
Will this chat work for me?
Thank you.

If the PM system was sufficient, they'd be using it. They aren't, so it isn't.
And if I was the DIY type to "easily implement" I certainly wouldn't be paying $100+ for a chat script.

Just making a suggestion. In my experience, forum users not familiar with vBulletin may often overlook simple ways to use existing features in the software. Also, if you can copy and paste (http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_do_i_create_a_javascript_countdown_timer_on_my _web_page.html), you are the DIY type.

I agree totally. Both would be fantastic features to see in this product.

I have not noticed any drop in speed. Perhaps you should try removing the menu which displays the number of users logged in to the chat to see if that makes a difference?

I contacted Addonchat support about this and their answer basically came down to "ask Vbulletin", so I'm asking you folks here... I was using the 3.6 integration with vb3.6, and life was good. I upgraded to v3.7, and got this integration package, and life is still good, except for one major problem: my users (and myself) are being timed out of the chat if we are inactive for more than 10 or 15 minutes. The timeout is disabled in my addonchat settings, so the addonchat people are mystified as to what is causing this. Anybody have an idea?

Please help. I've installed the files, and I've signed up for an account. I received an email with my account id and password, but when I enter it into the AdminCP settings I get the following error:
Error setting remote authentication URL.
This error is most likely caused by entering an incorrect account number, password or an invalid authentication URL. This error can also be caused if you do not have a Professional PLUS or Enterprise account, or if you do not have the Remote Authentication module.
Please verify your account number, password and authentication URL and try your request again.
Not sure how to proceed from here.

It does. But leave it out and see what happens. It could also be the authentication url. Leave that out first then try it. I had a couple of problems with the free version and I can't remember which entry it was.

I think I may have figured out a work-around. I analized the email that I received and saw that the link referenced a certain client in the code. I selected that client and it seems to work fine. For the port, I just left it as whatever was there already.

I have a couple of questions I was hoping somebody could help me with. First, can we expect continued integration support and hacks? And second, I'm having trouble deciding which version to get (pro, pro-plus, etc.). I'm looking for basic functionality right now but may want to expand in the future. I run a fairly small forum (most users online has been 16 so far) but want room to expand.
Thanks.

Any way to embed this onto the FORUMHOME page, so we don't have to use it on a separate page or a floating popup? Like other shout/chat boxes on here.

Spent entirely too long troubleshooting something just now and figured I'd share the solution for others that run into the same thing.
The Plugin does conflict with Vbadvanced cmps. I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't load until I removed the addonchat.php files from being integrated into my pages. Once addon chat is no longer integrated within vba cmps, it worked fine.
As far as I can tell this doesn't have any adverse effects. Everything still looks just as it should and is working properly.
The only problem I have left, is I don't know how to exclude the addonchat files from integration with the default Homepage page that cmps has. Hopefully I'll get that figured out tomorrow, because right now you still can't enter the chat from that individual page.

Okay... got everything working and I LOVE this program already... There are a few bugs/requests/changes that need to be addressed in the next version of this mod for Addonchat...
1 - uncached templates (I already fixed this in my version)
2 - support for the community link in 3.8 (already fixed in my version)
3 - better templates. I rewrote all my templates, to handle 100% widths.
4 - better who's chatting template...
The who's chatting page should NOT be its own page. It should be on top of the forum home, the same way this mod does it: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=196466

You might want to take the icon size out of your product. Took me a while to figure that out.. massive icons :) Also, an option to toggle the forum home bit would be nice. I ended up editing your new product to remove that box.

You uninstall the current product and install his. Although it puts the who's chatting box at the top of the forum rather than the bottom and there is also the icon thing I mentioned above. Having the chat stuff under Community is so much nicer though.

A few weeks ago I upgraded forum to 3.8. I'm wondering if this version of addonchat is fully compatible?
A few members have reported having problems getting into chat. Even though they're logged into the forum, when they load chat it keeps say "invalid username or password".
Can anyone help this with? Is it a cookie problem? Anything I can do to help stop it? It's really irritating.
This works pretty good, however if you want to take advantage of anything vBulletin wise (other than it auto logging you in), you're going to have to pay a minimum of $125.00 a year. Only the Professional PLUS version uses any of the vBulletin usergroup options, etc.
Anyway, since it's per year, I've decided to keep looking at other products. I'd of paid it had it been a onetime fee.
Good stuff otherwise though.

I installed this, it worked ok, but it killed my Navbar links... I tried to reinstall the old version, but that didn't help. Any idea what template modifications I have to make to get this working again?
BTW, when I say it killed my navbar links, to be fair, it moved them under community (which the mod says it does), however in my custom styles, I don't use that. I mostly wanted the mod to display the who's chatting in the forum home.
Hello, I installed this following the instructions.
When I click on the account settings in the AddonChat menu I am getting this error. What do I do to fix this? Thanks! I am using Vbulletin 3.8.0

I got this installed and I can connect, but the password field when logging in is auto-filled with some looooong password. It's not my password, and no matter how many times I try to save my password, it reverts to the other one when I try to log in. It's not just me, either. It's my users as well. I've already tried clearing my cache, cookies, and saved passwords. No dice. Any ideas?

I installed this on my 3.8.1 system with Jaxel's MOD and it works fine. In order to do the account lookup (I have the free version), I left the URL blank (left it at http://). I did the Lookup once with the password, got denied, then tried it again without the password and it worked. I previewed my site and clicked on Community and the login box came up. It auto entered my user name without a password and worked.
Thanks to all.
