Hack Support

This hack is now discontinued - this means that while it will remain available for download and use, there will be no further updates, nor will support be provided as the thread is no longer monitored.

Please click Mark as Installed if you are using this hack.

NOTE: I have marked this hack as Re-usable Code - This means that code from this hack may be used in other hacks, which can ONLY be released on official vB sites that use Jelsoft's verification system to verify your vBulletin license status, and as long as Kentaurus and I are credited in your hack.

vBulletin Version Compatibility

This hack can only be used with vBulletin v3.7.x.

NOTE 1:
This is a port of Kentaurus's MySmilies VB for v3.6.x (version 1.03) to work with vBulletin v3.7.0.

Kentaurus has indicated that he would be helping me provide support - see this post (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1519606&postcount=161) in his thread for confirmation. He has been added as a CoAuthor for this hack. Permission for me to port his hack is granted at the bottom of the 1st post in his thread.

NOTE 2:
Because I did not write the original hack (this version of the hack was originally only ever meant to be an interim version before Kentaurus released his version), hacks that I have written myself will always take priority over this one, and as a consequence, this hack only tended to get worked on whenever I felt the urge to look at it. I do not feel the urge anymore so have discontinued the hack.

People are free to install or un-install this whenever they want.

If anyone wants to continue the development of this hack, then they are more than welcome to take over, as I have marked this as re-usable code, I don't mind either way.

So Whats New?

Now has CSRF (cross-site request forgery) Protection (introduced in vBulletin v3.6.10 and v3.7.0 RC 4)
9 new plugins (cached all uncached templates, WOL sorted)
Now fully phrased
Auto-template injection (no template edits should now be needed)
Smilie Links now only appear if the member has permission to use MySmiles
Prettied up a couple of the templates
Template edits, if needed, now use only a single variable in each case
Signature custom smilie support added
Fixed attachments showing when posted inline within the same post (this only affects a very small amount of installations to start with, which is why it took so long to replicate, and I can not replicate this with every installation)

What Does This Hack Do?

This hack puts the control of the smilies on the users. It lets any user (that you give permission to) upload or modify the smilies that he can use.

These are not the smilies that vb uses, these are user-customized smilies. The smilies that you already have in place are preserved and are still used. But users may upload their own smilies for their use, and they are kept separate from the standard forum smilies.

For users:

Users can keep a library of their own smilies (they can upload them from their computer or web)
Users enter their replacement text, for example, :iamhappy: would be changed to their own user happy smilie
The custom smilies are parsed in any post, signature, or pm (does not include the new social network fuctionality that was added with v3.7.0 yet, it is on my to-do list)
If they have enabled the WYSIWYG editor, smilies are shown there

For administrators:

Usergroup control of who may upload custom smilies
Usergroup control of the size (width, height, size in bytes) of the smilie
Smilie quota, both for max number of smilies and max number of bytes or hard disk space
The administrator can choose where to save the smilies (the directory, default: mysmiliesvb)
Auto-template Injection - if the appropriate template hooks are available, you will not need to make any template edits at all, if edits needed you only need to paste a single variable where you need it

Installation Instructions

See the included Installation Instructions.txt file in the ms_mysmiliesvb.zip zip file.

ADDITIONAL NOTE:
A limitation exists with the fix that rectifies the problem of attachments showing when also posting them inline within the same post; when applied, all attachments will need to be displayed inline, if they have not been, then the ones that have not been posted inline will be hidden along with the ones that have been posted inline. Read Post #106 for more information on this.

Uninstall Instructions

Delete mysmiliesvb.php from your forum's root directory.
Delete the mysmiliesvb directory from your forum's root directory.
Delete class_dm_mysmiliesvb.php from your forum's /includes directory.
Delete bitfield_mysmiliesvb.xml from your forum's /includes/xml directory.

$mysmilie_navbar
Uninstall the product in vB using the AdminCP Product Manager.

To Do List

Signature custom smilie support - DONE
Fully phrase the hack - DONE
Usergroup Permissions - disabled by default - DONE
Profile Comments custom smilie support - Will never be done
Album Comments custom smilie support - Will never be done

Thanks for this update.

I have this problem when i import the xml file.

Database error in vBulletin 3.7.0:

Invalid SQL:

PRIMARY KEY (`mysmiliesvbid`)
);

MySQL Error : Table 'DTP_mysmiliesvb' already exists

MySQL Version : 5.0.27

Now i did have the other version installed still....

I did try it after a uninstall also and got the same problem.

In your AdminCP:

Click Maintenance -> Execute SQL Query

In the Manual Query box, type the following:
DROP TABLE DTP_mysmiliesvb;

Then click Continue.

That should drop the table. You can then install my hack :)

You may need to run the following manual queries (run each query individually) if you are still having problems:

ALTER TABLE DTP_usergroup DROP mysmiliesvb_maxwidth;
ALTER TABLE DTP_usergroup DROP mysmiliesvb_maxheight;
ALTER TABLE DTP_usergroup DROP mysmiliesvb_maxsize;
ALTER TABLE DTP_usergroup DROP mysmiliesvb_totalsmilies;
ALTER TABLE DTP_usergroup DROP mysmiliesvb_totalsize;

If anyone else is having problems then they can try the above queries.

NOTE: You will need to replace DTP_ with your Table Prefix if they have one, if you do not use them, then delete the DTP_ bits altogether before running each query.

Hey Rigel,

I was just releasing an interim release while you got yours ready, but if you are not going to bother with your release, I will then take over where you left off :)

But you may get the odd PM here and there asking about parts of your code, when I get stuck :)

And if you want to help with support, then I would more than welcome it :)

Uninstall the product, do all the queries, then re-install the product, that should fix it up.

Let me know if it does not work if you do it in that order.

Even if you enter a url, it will take the image from that site, and store the image locally in your ./mysmilies directory. So your members are not actually hotlinking to any sites at all :)

Excellent - thanks Mosh.

I have many users who are fond of smilies and I personally only offer about 20 or so - I don't like the super animated ones some of my member do, but when they add them it kinds messes up the display because My Smilies show above the defaults. Thanks for a great mod - this really let me give my members something they have been asking for without muddying up the default smilies I offer.

I had to uninstall...

This hack is promising, but very buggy right now. In addition to the above issues, whenever an attachment is made to a post and then added "inline", upon refresh the image is shown twice (inline and attached). When I disabled the hack, the problem went away.

I really want to use this, but it needs some work. :)

Oh, the smiles don't show (just the replacement text) when someone is quoted. Is there any way to fix this?

That is supposed to be the way it works, the replacement will only show in posts by the person who "owns" the custom smilie, quoting it would defeat the objective of the smilie belonging to the original poster. Also, it prevents conflicts if two users have the same replacement text, ie , which one would be used? It would take quite a bit more coding to get around that.

That is a bug that reported in the original hack, I have just had to read through about 160 odd posts of the original hack to find out that it was never fixed.

I would also like to point out that it is not "very buggy", as this is the only bug that has come to light so far, that has not yet been fixed in the original hack.

The other stuff is just requests to make it work with certain features.

You have to remember that I did not originally create this hack, I just ported it, so there are bound to be things that do not work the way they should in the first release, as I am constantly learning about the code that Kentaurus created.

So, I will look into it asap, and it will be fixed in the next update :)

I have tried to duplicate this problem you are having in Firefox, IE and Opera and can not replicate the issue (see attachments for tests) you are having.

Can you create a new style from the the master style (this should give you the default vBulletin style) and see if the same problem occurs?

What I posted should have worked, so I can not suggest anything more without checking out your installation.

If you want me to take a look then feel free to PM me your site address, a temp admin user (with admin permissions - Can Administer Settings for editing options, Can Administer Styles for editing templates, Can Administer Language Settings for editing phrases, Can Administer Plugins for editing products and plugins, and finally Can Run Maintenance Tools for running queries), and ftp access details, without these I can not help you. I will look when I have time, and even if I have a look, I can not guarantee that I will be able to fix it, if your site is not in English (I only read/write in English), so it is up to you what you want to do. You can revoke these after I have helped you out.

As the custom smilies are individual to a user, I do not see any point in having galleries, as no one else will be able to use them.

That is on my to-do list, once I have sorted the functionality for a base vBulletin installation [signatures, profile (visitor messages and albums) so far], and that will be a while yet, I still have my exams coming up, so will not be releasing the next main version, until at least the beginning of July (apart from maybe bug fixes).

i have a problem, i can not use the "add smiliey by url" function.
there just comes the error "wrong url", by every url i tried.
what did i wrong?
I have absolutely no idea, I can not recreate that issue.

Nobody has commented on this in v3.5.x, v3.6.x or v3.7.x versions of this hack about this issue.

Give me some example of urls that you are using please, I will then use them to see if I can recreate the problem.

BTW, please click Mark as Installed if you are using this and want support.

As the custom smilies are individual to a user, I do not see any point in having galleries, as no one else will be able to use them.

Then It'd be nice to have an admin viewable list of all uploaded smilies to monitor them, since the only current ways I see are to either login as user or use FTP.

Damn, I was sure it would work in an upgrade scenario :(

OK, I have altered the import file (only for those upgrading from v3.6.x).

Try importing this file instead of the one with the .zip.

Let me know if it works. If it does, others getting this problem when upgrading from v3.6.x to v3.7.x can use this until I release the next version.

EDIT: Have removed the attachment, as I have released the bug-fix version v3.7.002 to rectify this issue that people who are upgrading from v3.6.x of this hack are having.

It is not a bug.....that is supposed to be the way it works, the replacement will only show in posts by the person who "owns" the custom smilie, quoting it would defeat the objective of the smilie belonging to the original poster. Also, it prevents conflicts if two users have the same replacement text, ie , which one would be used? It would take quite a bit more coding to get around that.

Seems simple - only allow Smiliecodes in the Way of ':CODEFORSMILIE:' for custom Smilies and prove that every Code only can be used one so nobody can use the same and produce conflicts.

So, I asked for temp admin details to look at you installation. But instead of sending me the details I needed to help me track down the bug to help you, you un-installed the hack instead.

Just a suggestion here.

When you delete a smilie you get prompted if you are sure you want to delete it. which is fine. but I would look better if it did not have the category image behind the "Replacement text" box and the "Smilie" box.

Eg:

Do you see what I mean? would look better without it.

If you do not, then you did not upload all the files to their correct directories, just like indicated in Step 1 of the readme.txt.

Yes, CSRF (cross-site request forgery) Protection (introduced in vBulletin v3.6.10 and v3.7.0 RC 4), which means that your installation would have to be at least RC 4, as that is when security token were introduced.

I do not support installations on v3.7 Beta or RC, and this hack was never tested on either the beta or RC versions of v3.7. So, the minimum supported version for this hack is v3.7.0 Gold.

Hi Mosh,

Thanks for looking into it so quickly.

Yes, I created a fresh unmodified style and it still happens. What I do is upload an attachment, then insert the attachment "inline" by clicking the attachment icon and then the name of the attached image to insert it "inline" in my post. At that point it looks fine, but after a refresh it shows "inline" and then again at the end of the post as an attachment. It's happening to all users in all browsers. Please see attached screenshot.

Found a problem with the plug in.

I found that when posting in-line attachments, the plug in is causing both thumbnails to show, both in-line and in the attachment container below the post.

Mosh - I am also in Melbourne and have sent you a PM to see if we can fix that attachment problem that Stone has when using this mod - I also had the same problem and had to uninstall it

I managed to re-create this bug - and I think I have managed to create a fix for this. I am still in the process of testing the fix out.

I will post it probably tomorrow, once I am happy with the testing of the fix.

Screenshots of before with the error (I think) and after the fix is applied, are attached below:

Update: v3.7.004
-- Fixed: Attachments were showing when the attachment was shown inline in the same post
-- Added: AdminCP Option to turn this fix On or Off

NOTE: You do not need to upgrade to this version unless you are experiencing issues with attachments were showing as an attachment, when the attachment was shown inline in the same post, in which case, this should fix the issue. This problem exists for a very limited amount of vBulletin installations, and I have only been able to replicate the issue on one installation, all other installations I tested do not seem to be affected and images displayed inline are not shown in attachments, while the attachments in the same post that have not been shown inline show fine in the attachments/thumbnail section.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: A limitation exists with the fix that rectifies the problem of attachments showing when also posting them inline within the same post; when applied, all attachments will need to be displayed inline, if they have not been, then the ones that have not been posted inline will be hidden along with the ones that have been posted inline. Which is why this fix can be turned On or Off, it will mess up installations that do not have the problem to start with, so this fix is switched Off as default, and will need to be turn On if needed.

how to manually uninstall from phpmyadmin
You don't un-install from phpmyadmin, you just un-install the product from the AdminCP, delete the files and directory you uploaded when you installed this.

If you are having problems because you accidentally deleted a table before uninstalling it, then install the product again, then un-install it, and that should fix it. As how to do it from phpmyadmin, I have not got a clue, as I do not use it.

I may well be able to fix it at some point, but I did not write this hack originally and it was only meant to be an interim solution until the original author released his official version.

He saw that I had done it, and asked me to continue it, so it is slow going as I am still learning about this hack as I go along.

Also because I did not originally write this, the hacks that I have written myself always take priority over this one, so this hack tends to get worked on whenever I feel the urge to look at it, so development on this will probably always be pretty slow.

People are free to install or un-install this whenever they want.

If people want this developed faster they can always take over the hack as I have marked this as re-usable code, I don't mind either way.

I still can not reproduce this problem, and I have tried a lot of different environments and web browsers. As I can not reproduce it, I can not fix it.

So, what I am going to do, is add an admincp option to allow you and others to select which method(s) for uploading smilies they will see:

Upload from PC
Enter URL for image from another website
Both of the above (default)

That way if you have an issue with one method or another (a very small percentage of you), or you want to restrict which method your end users are allowed to use, you can now do so.

I will be releasing this updated version today.

That is the normal behaviour for this hack (instead of not allowing the image to be uploaded).

If a user tries uploading an image that is larger in dimensions than those specified for his usergroup, then the image will down-sized to the maximum dimensions allowed for that usergroup.

Please elaborate, tell me exactly what is happening... as it should not be possible for the new options not to work, unless the instructions have not been followed to the letter, i.e. as it is an upgrade, everything needs to be over-written/upgraded.

The new version should have worked, so I can not suggest anything more without checking out your installation.

I will look when I have time, and even if I have a look, I can not guarantee that I will be able to fix it, especially if your site is not in English (I only read/write in English), so it is up to you what you want to do. You can revoke these after I have helped you out.

If you do not want me to take a look, then there is nothing else I can do to help.

That is the normal behaviour for this hack (instead of not allowing the image to be uploaded).

If a user tries uploading an image that is larger in dimensions than those specified for his usergroup, then the image will down-sized to the maximum dimensions allowed for that usergroup.

Usergroup settings are at 100x100
imported smiley is 30 x30 yet it ends up being 23 x23
no big deal really but just thought id point it out..

this is a hack i have been waiting for, for quite some time..

One of my users try to upload this smiley, but it doesn't bring the animated part of it. It stays at the start of the animation. Any reason why? Below is the link for the smiley.

I have completely lost the urge to continue working on this hack (it was only ever meant to be an interim port of Kentaurus's hack, while we were waiting for him to release his official updated version), so as of now, this hack has been discontinued - this means that while it will remain available for download and use, there will be no further updates, nor will support be provided as the thread is no longer monitored.

NOTE: I have marked this hack as Re-usable Code - This means that code from this hack may be used in other hacks, which can ONLY be released on official vB sites that use Jelsoft's verification system to verify your vBulletin license status, and as long as Kentaurus and I are credited in your hack.

It doesnt work with 3.8 for some reason when you install the xml it states that it wont work but is only available up to version 3.7.99.

If i could figure out how to tweak this then it should work.

open the xml and search for maxversion="3.7.99", replace that with "3.8.99". in our board the addon still works fine on 3.8

*shameless bump* I've somehow lost the ability to add smilies because the max is set to zero. I did not make this change, seeing as I don't know how to do it lol. Thanks!

Er... you're asking for help setting up usergroup settings, right? :) After making sure the vBulletin Options>My Smilies VB Options is set up correctly, go into each usergroup you want to have the ability to add smilies and scroll down to "MySmiliesVB permissions" (its the third section down for me, your mileage may vary) and make sure those settings are to your satisfaction. I can't remember any more if its set to zero by default.

And voila! Thank you very much, I would not have thought to check in the usergroup editor. I would +Rep if I could.
