Where is $block_data at?

I'm trying to add some info to the memberinfo_block_friends_mini template, but can not find the template that displays the info from $block_data['friendbits'].

I've searched through member.php and the scripts includes for $block_data, and can find nothing.

How does this magic work? Please tell me that this 'bit' is editable from the template system.
