Because those spam bots posting 'for sale' scam topics are extremely annoying and there have been two in the last day or so, and it seems recently this forum has been hit by more and more of them...
Question and answer? Recaptcha? Yes, I know it'd require modifications for vBulletin 3.6

i suppose they arelady planned to use 3.7 with reCaptcha or another one when they upgrade... it's a 3 months plan for the upgrade, and i know they are working 24/7 on this... with extra coffee from Danny!

Wow, it's a shame it takes them so long. It's likely because of all the customisations to the code they've made. They need to implement their own changes with Plugins; using the hooks they've already been given. That might make things easier...

I think the staff handles spam pretty well - usually the spam threads are in the trash only a few minutes after its posted and the spammer banned.
And the upgrade will come in due time , we don't want to rush an upgrade.

the more plugins you use, the more server usage you expose yourself... with 500+ visitors online at all time, it is not only server consuming, it is HD exploitation to the max... i know what it is...
it's not only coding all these in plugins, but re-evaluating the uses of these hacks, as also a lot of these are now into 3.7, or have similar versions... like the thread prefixes.. :)

Um, what exactly makes you think we dont use plugins ? At the last count we were using something like 150, as well as several file edits, and a number of custom files. Something like 50 templates are customised as well (plus numerous new ones we use).
