3.7 - how do i edit interface of social group?

To put it crudely, the social group interface looked UGLY. Can i change how it looked to be something like zoints local or facebook groups?

also.. can i add in more functions to social groups? So far i've only seen socialforums but that is not exactly what i am looking for..
