Fake members

Is there a mod that can be installed to stop or slow down the registering of fake members, my forum has hit the top of google for some specific keywords increasing site traffic quite a bit, but ive gone from 3 or 4 fake members signing up a day to 15+ and its getting anoying deleting them all, i just dont want them showing up on my site some of them spam the forum some dont post at all, but when they have usrnames such as xchdyun and allenidhu its quite obvious they are fake members, so if anyone knows of any mods that can be installed or settings that can be changed in my cp please let me know

I share your sentiments and would advise adding one of the mods available to reduce the number of spammers. I have just submitted a new thread myself on this subject and repeat it below for interest.

Spammers cause many of us a great deal of inconvenience and annoyance.

I have a couple of anti-spam mods running and this does restrict the activity of those who seek to penetrate my board. I have however blocked several from ever getting back onto my site using the following.

It is pointless trying to ban specific e-mail addresses in the banned user section as new addresses are introduced. However using IP addresses is more effective in overcoming the problem. I have listed several in the User Banning Options and this works well. I always add an offending IP address to the list and I suggest members who are affected in a similar way post a response to this thread adding any new addresses they come across.

Upgrade to vBulletin 3.7 then set human verification to question and answer. Or use NoSpam. Then, just make sure the questions are related to your forum's topic, and you should have way less fake members/bots than before registering, simply because it'd take specific knowledge to even answer the questions...
