View Full Version : Miscellaneous Hacks - Custom Board Closed and Forum Busy Messages

This modification is no longer available or supported.
This allows you to display a completely custom page to members when you close your forum or when your server load exceeds the limit set in the ACP (Replacing the current standard error type page that is displayed).
Notes:
* The supplied "Board_Closed" and "Board_Busy"templates are pretty basic, you should customise them to suit your own needs.
* The server busy functionality will only work if your server supports it. If you don't see server load readings in your ACP homepage then its not supported.
History:
v3.7.001 : Initial vb 3.7 release.

I don't get it, what's the difference from the default messages?

I'm guessing it shows an actual page that you make yourself other than the actual board with the board message?

Right. The default only allows a text message. This enables a separate template(s), so I threw together a page with a picture of the staff saying we'll be back shortly, and just copied and pasted the whole thing into the new Board_closed template. Easy.
More difficult to test as I had to close the board to test it. Oh, and I had to edit the Board_closed template 3 times for each style.
edit: I dunno, but for some reason it wouldn't install in my 3.7.1pl2 board properly, which is really where I wanted it for my upgrade to 3.7.2. Oh well. It went into my other 3.7.2 board fine.

re: This mod wouldn't install in my 3.7.1pl2 board
This morning I updated to 3.7.2 and the Board_Closed template still wouldn't show up. Everything else seemed fine.
So I came here and was composing a question. At some point I had to refer back to my AdminCP, and it had magically appeared! So I dunno, something to do with reloading pages after install.

It doesn't really.
The "toobusy" phrase lets you customise the server load message and you can type a custom message whenever you close the forums so both are easily customised...
When you say a "custome page" do you mean a VB page with a message on it or any html pagr you want?

This product doesn't work with 3.8.0.
Hope someone can get it working.

I was sitting in front of my admincp when this post came through, so I tried it. The "forum closed" message is working fine with 3.8.
Remember, you must try to log in from a different browser. If you just close the board in FF, then go to another tab, you're still logged in as admin so can browse the forums (but you'll see a message saying they're closed).

I'm not able to import it. Shows the following error:
This product is not compatible with version 3.8.0 of vBulletin. (Compatible starting with 3.7.0 / Incompatible with 3.7.99 and greater)

For now, just edit the product XML file, change 3.7.99 to 3.8.99
For now, just exit the product XML file, change 3.7.99 to 3.8.99
Installed in 3.8.2 :)
