Bobster's TABS, Baby!

Had this mod running for a long time. I was a an original test site for the tabs. It's awesome.

Every forum should have it. :)

hmm, not really strong candidates this mond.

Social forums is a good initiative, but is just bad for your forums performance (blows up forum cache).

Tabbed forum home is also a good initiative, but too much work to install / modify. Could be better integrated in vb, maybe with none template or code edits (it's possible).

Helpcenter is nice, but I don't need it.

Latest album pictures seems too small to be really 'mod of the month'.

So I'll go for usc. As this looks the most useful to me and the best written one.

Yes, its total spherical shaped ache to get in installed especially if your not 100% familiar with code edits and template chages etc, but damn, its soo versatile, its only limited by umagination, im currently in the middle of a project to pull my auction, gallery, chatroom and forums into their own tabs, ill link it here when done..

Bobstes helping me out with it too.. so it should go swimmingly..lol but its def got my vote, ive seen some super slick looking sites with it added.. suprised its not a stock option considering its available as profile enhancement with 3.7. maybe they are just testing the water with it and it will be integrated...

im wafflin.. tabs for president!! er sorry i meant motm

True - but there is a solid beta version now and PAUL has even taken the opportunity to make it compatible with the 3.6 series as well as the 3.7 - Very noble enterprise in my opinion = 3 cheers for HelpCenter :D

UGH! I saw that - Kinda sux - hopefully the exploit will be fixed ASAP... I hate to think all that hard work goes down the drain...

But it's odd - I sure wish there was more info provided by vB.org with that cryptic email advising of the "Quarantine" :(

Sorry guys.

I'm waiting for Paul come online, as he's the only one who can see what information has been posted by vb.org staff.

However, we will have HelpCenter patched up asap. All this hard work isn't for nothing, you know. :)

If vb.org emailed/private messaged me the information, then I could have it patched up. Unfortunately, they won't.

Odd policy MARCO - it seems like the details of said exploit would be of concern to those of us who have actually installed modifications... Perhaps you'd consider a policy change in the direction of disclosure to the Community :D

I hear ya JASE - I know YAWL've put an incredible amount of work into making HelpCenter a success and I thank you for that and will look forward to the updated, exploit-free version. The policy is in place so that someone who wants to exploit a modification cannot find out easily. They would need to find the exploit themselves. And I would probably have a safe bet saying it won't change in the future.

LOL - no doubt vBulletin.org doesn't change it's policy very often :D
As I've installed the modification though - it would have been nice to know what the exploit was - but I thank JASE for the answer...

Help Center :(

Yeah - I'm wondering what the deal is... I certainly hope HelpCenter sees the out-of-beta stage soon.

Jacquii.

EDIT - on the PaulSonny.com website:
Hello all,

As you may be aware, we've had to have a complete new site. This is because of server problems with our last host - and Paul quickly got us set-up with a new host.

Also, you may be aware that HelpCenter recently got put into the "Modification Graveyard" over at vbulletin.org. This is because of a vulnerability found. Rest assured, this is nothing major and we will have it fixed shortly.

Thanks for your patience.

That was posted on 5 May, 2008 - It's now the 9th of May, 2008 - I sure hope things are well with PAUL and JASE and the site and the HelpCenter project!

We are still working with the authors of the Helpdesk to produce a version that will be more secure then ever. It does take some time to get everything checked and sorted though, but it seems almost all issues are resolved or almost resolved now.

I appreciate everyones patience. Rest assured, myself, the PaulSonny website and the HelpCenter project is going knowhere, development has slowed down a little due to the issues mentioned above but will be back to normal once everything has been verified.

Thanks, Paul.

youradhere4222, HelpCenter is in 'beta' stage and it is only a lite version. We've always said there will be a paid version. What do you want us to do, add every single feature and do all this for free? Maybe if I had more time, yes - but unfortunately this takes a lot of both mine and Pauls time - so we certainly cannot work for free.

I think our support has been fantastic, and is only going to continue with the 'paid version. I think we've done great so far, especially how complex we've made the lite version.

youradhere4222
05-10-2008, 07:26 PM
Appreciating someone's work more than someone else's isn't at all devaluing the effort of them; please know that.

There are plenty of paid modifications that require payment to use, and I have no problem with that. I was simply posting in this thread to tell who I had voted for, and why, just like everyone else had done.

I don't think a paid version is required to develop a modification, since #1, there's an option to not support your modification, and #2, people do donate to good causes, but I'd rather not get into this argument.

Side Colums are easy to make in a HEADER or FOOTER template anyway.

I've looked at the template (because I added the tag cloud, some phrases, the style chooser and the donate link), although it's not a skin I personally designed.

But the guys at vBskinworks seem to like coding side colums in either the HEADER or FOOTER templates.

Here is an example from my forum home page.
