View Full Version : Miscellaneous Hacks - Activity Modification

This is the vB3.7/vB3.8 version of this modification (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=93831).
Description
This hack adds an activity metric for users to your forum; this metric takes into account a variable number of weeks. Also provided is a Junior/Normal/Senior member system based on this metric, and a longevity metric (user registered time as a percent of the amount of time the first user has been registered).
Visiting each day and posting the configured amount of times per day for the configured number of weeks will yeild 100% activity. Posts are checked individually for each day, so days cannot be skipped then spammed up afterwards. The weight of visiting for the day relative to posting is configurable. Weeks are weighted so the most recent has a bigger impact on the activity percent than the most distant.
When a user logs in with activity above the configured threshold, they are promoted from Junior Member to Member. When they log in with the configured amount of time as Member, they are promoted to Senior Member. You can configure the mod to also add secondary usergroups when these promotions happen.
Complexity
This modification requires 1 XML import, uploading of images, and the addition of some CSS, depending on what options you choose
Technical
This hack adds 1 query to showthread for each user who posts in that page (or only 1 for the logged in user by configuration). In addition, the first time a member's post or profile is accessed during a day (GMT), 3 queries are performed to find that user's activity. By configuration, 1 query may be added to each page load to find the logged in user's "activity today". By configuration, 1 query may be added to each member profile view to find that member's "activity today".
Upgradability
This modification will import your settings and data from the 3.0/hack version
This modification will import your settings and data from the 3.5/3.6 mod version
Frequently Asked Questions I don't see the Activity Settings section or Activity Maintenance link on the AdminCP navbar
You're probably seeing a cached (old) copy of the navbar. Try pressing Ctrl-F5 in IE or FF, or whatever your browser requires to force it to load the current version of the page.
I installed this mod and nothing shows up
First, go to AdminCP|Activity Settings|Display and make sure the dropdown settings are not set to None. If they aren't set to none, the most likely cause is using an old style which does not have template hooks; verify this by creating a new style without a parent and checking to see if the mod displays on it (the images probably won't load, though). If the mod displays on the default style but not your normal one, you need to add template hooks, otherwise post here for help. I installed this mod using the Download/Upload Plugin page and there was an error/it doesn't seem to work
To install this mod, you need to use the Add/Import Product link on the Manage Products page I just installed and everyone's activity seems low Part of the activity calculation is what days users visited on. This information isn't collected before the mod is installed, so no user can have 100% activity untill you've been running the mod for the full period of time you have it set to monitor Please realize that there is no "roll over" for activity; if you have it set to look at 4 posts per day, your users must post 4 posts on each individual day to obtain 100%. I founded this forum, but I don't have 100% longevity
Somehow a user's join date has been set before yours. When you install, the mod looks for the earliest join date to use to find longevity, but you can change the baseline date. To change the "Start of board" time, go to Maintenance>Activity Maintenance>Set Start of Board, enter your user number in the text field, then click Set Start of Board Why don't the images don't show up?/Why does the postcount have 's's in front of it?
Be sure to upload one of the activity directories from activityimages.zip to the misc directory for each of your styles. To find a style's misc directory, goto the Style Manager, then from the dropdown next to the style, choose Stylevars. The setting Miscellaneous Images Folder contains the path to that style's misc directory, where you need to upload the activity directory Can I use activity for promotions?
The project to build a full-blown promotion hack for use with this mod has been cancelled, after losing all of my work, however a much simpler system that adds secondary groups based on two thresholds has been added to the main hack.
Can you make X number get split up into digits?
I understand where you're coming from with this one, but I just can't figure out a way to work this that would be simple to use.
The tooltips don't wrap and get cut off with FireFox
The same thing happens to other vB tooltips (the thumbnail ones, for example). If you know a way to add line breaks to FF tooltips without scripting, please let me know.

I already had this installed, but it was version 2.80. To upgrade, all I have to do is import the xml file? Do I select overwrite to yes or no? Also, I am using everything, but the posts with this hack. Not sure if that would matter or not. I just need some clarification on this for an upgrade.

Yes, just import with overwrite set to yes. You can change the display options in the AdminCP|vBulletin Options panel to disable duplicate/undesired visual elements.

This mod is to creates an absolute activity metric, whereas the one provided by vbexperience is relative. This mod has a curve on the value of contributions in previous weeks, whereas vbexperience's activity stat is linear. This mod caps valued activity per day, whereas it would appear that you can spam up vbexperience's activity stat in one day.
Basicly, this mod allows you to set up an activity metric where you can look at the value the user has and have a good feel for how active they are. The way mine is set up, I can look at it and know that 20% is lurkerish, 50% participates, and 100% participates a lot. In the activity mod, multiple people can reach 100%, because 100% is a fixed goal, not based on the comparison of you to others.

That's because there really wasn't anything that needed to change, though I did add that "Countdown to 100%" feature on my own forum during 2.80.
Speaking of changes, I'm open to considering actions with new features of vB3.7 as posts, but I haven't really had the time to poke arround and figure them out, so if you'd like me to add the option to consider taking some action to be the same as posting, please post with: The name of the action Any steps needed to enable the action Steps to perform the action A brief explaination of the action Any technical details you might have such as table names and field names involvedThis will help me quickly come up to speed so I can consider the additions.

Make sure that your postbit has the template hooks in it. Custom styles, especially for older versions may not have them. This mod requires the following lines in your postbit or postbit_legacy template, depending on which you use:
$template_hook[postbit_userinfo_left]
$template_hook[postbit_userinfo_right]
$template_hook[postbit_end]
If your postbit template doesn't have these and you don't know where to put them, you can add
$WWU002_rankblock
under the username and
$WWU002_statblock
under the postcount to add the stuff for this mod manually. With the manual mods, none of the postbit controls in the options will work, however.
To see the activity statistics page, go to the Activity Top Activity Page section in the options and make sure the top two options are set to yes, then click the "Stats" link in the navbar. If your navbar doesn't have template hooks, the url will be like
http://zelaron.com/forum/index.php?do=activitystat
but with the path to your forum index. You'll need to manually put it somewhere.
I highly recommend that you update your style/get a style that has template hooks, as I suspect most vb3.7 mods will require them.

How do i add this to my postbit, manually?
WetWired
04-30-2008, 12:20 PM
All of the available variables are listed at the bottom of the installation instruction file, but the easiest way is to add
$WWU002_rankblock
$WWU002_statblock
where you want them. The first is the additional rank provided by the mod, while the second is the actual activity and longevity information. I suggest putting the rank under the usertitle and putting the statblock under (or instead of) the postcount. If you need search, add below type instructions, I can provide those, too.

The previous version of this mod has the manual instructions.

is there an easier way to add them seperate ?
The previous version of this mod has the manual instructions.
Unlike the previous versions of the mod, the actual blocks that are added to the postbits and the profile page are in separate templates so they are easier to modify and so you can modify them without manually adding them to the templates. The activity_rankblock template creates the WWU002_rankblock variables, which by default is just the rank text wrapped in a div if the rank text is enabled. The activity_statblock template creates the WWU002_statblock variables, which contains the activity and longevity information.
In the past, the feeling that I got was that people were not very interested in information in customizing the look, so I stuck with the customization information I've had since the beginning, but I'll try to put together a better explanation.

Can I get the output of AdminCP|Maintenance|Activity Maintenance|Configuration diagnostic, please?
I expect that it's a problem with the code for the postbit "Alternate position"; try setting it to "Default position" and see if the problem persists. Also, a sample postbit source when the problem is happening may be useful (or the source for the whole page). If "Default position" doesn't work, you can set it to "None," which completely removes the JS from the page but leaves everything else enabled, until I figure out the problem.
Mod does not work for me. I uploaded .xml from manage products | Add/Import Products
but after that nada, i got nothing. Cant view it in vbullet options, or in the maintenence. all that shows up on my site is "novStats" under the postbit

I looked, but can't find it. Anyway I am trying to do two things.
One: Add a box for each of the four things. Around each of them. And then also if possible, how can I get the box around the whole postbit part of the activity? (and if it is just .css, around everything like they have)
Thanks for any info dude!

I really don't see how you can miss it. It's practically the only thing in the installation guide. I've highlighted it in the attached screenshot. Be sure to copy and paste from the actual activity_mod_install.html, as there is more to the right not shown in the image.
To add a box arround the whole thing, you'd add something like the following to the css:
table.WWU002postbit {border:1px solid black;}which would add a 1px black border arround it.

one question
does it track user activities and show where user go and what he did? so if you want to know where every user went and what he did you can find that out in single page
does it do that?
WetWired
05-28-2008, 04:25 AM
No, it only adds tracking for whether or not a user visited, and that only is used, with post data, to generate a number indicating how active a user is on the forum.

Hi, I'm a little bit new to all of this, so if my question may sounds a bit noobish,
sorry for that.
my forum current version is 3.7.1, I tried to install this hack, but seems like all get massed up in Admin cp and on the user profile...
In some parts you don't see the text that should be written.
now is it something that I need to try fix by myself? since I see that some basic things that should have work normal doesn't ... (text..)
or this patch support only 3.7.0 and I need to wait for 3.7.1 ?

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. If you could, please go to the AdminCP|Maintenance|Activity Maintenance page (you may have to force-refresh your admincp for it to show), and click the Go button under Configuration Diagnostic. Please copy and paste the results page into a text file and post it.

The stuff arround the avatar is just a change to the HTML. I use a different set of images and absolute position them. Unfortunately, it seems that Safari and the new FireFox don't support the z-index CSS attribute for whatever reason, so this method has issues.

WetWired

Today display is disabled by default except for the logged-in user because it is the most resource intensive part of the mod (because it can change at any time, it cannot be cached between pages). You can turn it on in the Activity Display page in the control panel.

Unless you change from the default settings, yes. If you run a small forum, then the load probably won't hurt, but since I've had several big forums interested in my mods before I default all settings to reduce queries.

In debug mode I see a message "WWU002: Today info not in cache; running today activity". How can I enable caching?
And I don't understand how "Find today's activity for logged-in user" option works. I didn't see any changes after I change it state to "Yes".
WetWired
06-17-2008, 12:26 PM
As it says in the description, there are no built-in template changes for "Find today's activity for logged-in user" to support. This option was added because people wanted to show activity today for the logged in user on their portal pages or on the navbar.
The meaning of "WWU002: Today info not in cache; running today activity" is that there is no prior post on this page by the user (as of the time the message is issued), so activity today must be calculated. Activity today is only cached for the duration of the page load, as the user may make another post between the page you are viewing and the next. The cache just makes it so activity today isn't queried over and over for the same user if they have 10 posts on the same page. The main activity level, however, is stored in the user data once calculated and reused till the next "midnight."

As detailed in activity_mod_customization.html, the Activity Today for the logged in user can be accessed with $bbuserinfo[WWU002_todaylevel]. The only complication is that you have to enable "Find today's activity for logged-in user" in the display settings.

this looks like a really cool mod. i was wondering about the technical aspects.
you said:
This hack adds 1 query to showthread for each user who posts in that page (or only 1 for the logged in user by configuration). In addition, the first time a member's post or profile is accessed during a day (GMT), 3 queries are performed to find that user's activity. By configuration, 1 query may be added to each page load to find the logged in user's "activity today". By configuration, 1 query may be added to each member profile view to find that member's "activity today".
but I was wondering, how much would that generally increase the mySQL databases size by for a forum that has 1,900 members (generally 500 active) and about 2000 new posts to the forum a day?
I'm under the restriction of server load so that's why I would like to know. Thank you.

The mod should not significantly increase database size.
In its default configuration, server load increase should be inperceptable except when users first start viewing threads each day. Even then, this load increase should generally be minor unless you have many active users at the time the day rolls over.

I can't find a link to your site in your profile. Please be sure that forum/images/misc is the correct folder. The style you are using may use a different misc folder. The proper installation of the images should have the images accessable as for example .../misc/activity/longevity20.gif . If you right click the 20/20 and click properties, you should be able to see where it is looking for the image, which should help you figure out where to put it.

The problem is that you have the postbit_userinfo_right template hook twice. The activity mod puts the stats in $template_hook[postbit_userinfo_right].
The first place is here:
<if condition="$show['reputation']"><div style="padding:2px 0px 2px 0px;"></div><div><span id="repdisplay_$post[postid]_$post[userid]">$post[reputationdisplay]</span></div></if>
$template_hook[postbit_userinfo_right]
<if condition="$show['member']"><if condition="$show['avatar']">
<div class="smallfont">
<br /><a href="member.php?$session[sessionurl]u=$post[userid]"><img src="$post[avatarurl]" $post[avwidth] $post[avheight] alt="<phrase 1="$post[username]">$vbphrase[xs_avatar]</phrase>" border="0" /></a></if>
</div>
</if>
The second is here <div>
$vbphrase[my_mood]: <img src="images/mood/$post[mood].gif" border="0" />
</div>
</if>
</div>
$template_hook[postbit_userinfo_right]
<div style="padding:5px 0px 5px 0px;"></div>
</td>
</if>If you remove one, your problem will be fixed.

Well, the link isn't showing because your navbar template doesn't have the template hook for it. The link is added to $template_hook[navbar_buttons_left]. Assuming your navbar changes are just new/rearanged links, you should revert your navbar and redo your changes, being carefull not to remove any template hooks, since this will affect other mods you might install, too.
As for the page itself, that situation is most odd. The only thing I can think of is that some other mod is changing $_REQUEST['do'] or also uses the forumhome_start plugin and is returning. I suggest turning off all other mods and see if the problem persists. If not, turn them on one by one untill the problem comes back; the one you just turned on when it stops working is probably the problem.
Depending on the cause, you may be able to work arround the problem by going to Plugins&Products>Plugin Manager, finding the Activity Modification forumhome_start plugin, editing it and setting the execution order to 1.

I saw in a previous post someone brought this up and it was somewhat disregarded -- but this should not be ignored. My PHP Error log is swollen from the amount of errors this modification is creating.
PHP Warning: Call-time pass-by-reference has been deprecated; If you would like to pass it by reference, modify the declaration of WWU002promoteUser(). If you would like to enable call-time pass-by-reference, you can set allow_call_time_pass_reference to true in your INI file in global.php(405) : eval()'d code on line 542
My first error of this occurred when it was installed on August 20, 2008 at 9:04am. In my log file, it's line 7659. Scroll massive amounts down and my last entry in the PHP Error log currently is at 517423 -- 99.999% of the errors between 7659 and 517423 is this same Call-time pass-by-reference error message. In only 5 days, this error has created over 500,000 lines of errors -- or 100,000 per day. Please fix or advise what to do to fix the error because 100,000 error lines per day is just rediculous and unnecessary.

I believe your second problem is related to your first one. You should not need to change activity_navbar in the release version in order for it to point to the correct page. Make sure that AdminCP>vB Options>Forums Home Page Options>Script Name for Forum Home Page is set correctly. If the code in the quote worked for you, it should say "forum", not "index"

I just told you.
Make sure that AdminCP>vB Options>Forums Home Page Options>Script Name for Forum Home Page is set correctly. If the code in the quote worked for you, it should say "forum", not "index"The purpose of this stock vB setting is tell the forum software where the forum index page is, because they know you might have something else as index.php . Following this established convention, the Activity Mod uses this setting in all links to the Top Activity page.

It's kinda tricky but here it goes.
I want the Vba page to be the main page when members logs in (index page). On the index page lies a link called forum which take you to a page that displays a list of categories etc.
If I set the AdminCP>vB Options>Forums Home Page Options>Script Name for Forum Home Page, to forum, it works but the default page that members will be directed to when loggin on will be the page with all the categories.
However if I set the AdminCP>vB Options>Forums Home Page Options>Script Name for Forum Home Page to index it no longer works but, members who log in will be able to view the page that I want.
Sorry if I caused any confusion. Thanks for the help. yep I'm a noob.. haha

$vbulletin->options['forumhome']
with
'forum'

I would suggest that you inquire at vbadvanced.com about an alternate means of making the login redirect propperly.

In fact, when is enabled and a user tries to post, it appears a white page with novpostTD and one has to press "back" button and refresh in order to see what it posted.
Also, under the close threads appears a novPost message, this until I disable the hack.

does this problem occur on all styles? or just the 1 style, i have it workin on 10 styles on 3.7.3 with no problems at all, it sound like some sort of security token issue with a style, if u have a custom style try reverting the new post template, this may solve the issue, although do note that if you do this and it doesn't work you will have to reinstall the xml file for that style and also add any additional template changes you might have manually made to it before you reverted

The only way that can happen is if it was not completely/propperly installed. Instead of uninstall, choose edit. The third section will be "Existing Install/Uninstall Code." Check the box for delete next to the third row (which should contain the query you posted), then click save at the bottom. You should then be able to uninstall.

Thanx for this great add-on. Just installed, translated and try how its working.
I have done all maintenance manually.
Logged in as admin, the visit activity shows 0%. Don't know where is calculated.
Some of my settings:
Find today's activity for all users: Yes (and No - tried both)
Find today's activity for logged-in user: Yes
Show activity breakdown in tooltip: Yes (here at tooltip, visit activity: 0%)

I just installed and everyone's activity seems low Part of the activity calculation is what days users visited on. Your visit activity will start at zero, because vBulletin does not track when you visited before you install the mod.

This is most likely an issue with the javascript to modify the postbit; it may not work correctly if your postbit has been modified significantly from the default. Setting Automatic postbit alteration to None or Default location and setting Remove postcount and Remove joindate to No should prevent this. If you set Automatic postbit alteration to None, you can manually add the modifications by following the instructions in the Manual postbit modifications section in activity_mod_customization.html in the zip file.

With that said in the Stat page it states, 19 days to 100% and 87%.
Some members do not have days, they just have percentages.
what does this mean or what is it referring to?
Thanks! :)

If they do not have an "x days to 100%", then they have not started on their way to 100% (they missed visiting or posting yesterday) or are already there. This feature was added because it's hard to tell otherwise; for good reasons your activity may seem to "stall" while "bubbles of inactivity" are purged. On my forum, I have rewards for reaching and sustaining 100% activity; if it doesn't matter much on your forum, you may want to disable the feature.

If they are "already there" how can reward them for reaching and sustaining 100% like how you have on your forum? :D

I have a usergroup that I add people to that gives them a larger avatar. I use template conditionals to make it smaller while they are under a certain activity level. I have a second group for those that sustain 100% for 28 days that goes small at a lower activity level. You can use the variables mentioned in the customization document to implement such systems.
In any case, the rewards are manual and could be something easier to setup.

Is there any way to make the data (both postbit and ranks page) accessible only to the administrator usergroup? i.e. similar to a user's IP address only showing for mods and higher.
This mod sounds like quite an interesting way of gauging clan member activity, but making it public might promote spamming to influence ranking. If this sounds unusual to you, we also have karma padders on our board
WetWired
09-27-2008, 04:34 PM
Well the whole point of the system to cut down on spam, since it only counts a limited number of posts each day. That said, you should be able to use template conditionals so that the info only shows to certain usergroups. Surround the templates
activity_rankblock,activity_statblock,activity_top statpage
with<if condition="is_member_of($bbuserinfo,6)"></if>, then set User profile page statistics to Right Side and Remove postcount and remove joindate to no. You'll also want to set Add navbar link for Top Activity to no so people don't have questions about a navbar link to a blank page.

It looks like the CSS isn't setup. Confirm that one of the sets of CSS data is in the extra CSS for the style. If you were changing the activity_statblock template, there is a class that an outer element needs to have in order for the CSS styling to apply to the rest.

about to install this nice mod on my board.. We use a bunch of styles, approx 25 styles (we let our users choose their favs) and, well, putting the images required for this mod into each style's misc folder seems rather redundant (as well as some themes, both light and dark, use the vB default images/locations)
Is there a way to set image paths up to point to something like images/misc/activity/dark and images/misc/activity/light so we could set per theme/template??
Otherwise I foresee a long, detailed install process..
thanks for the awesome mod :)
WetWired

The images are only used in one template, activity_statblock. You could take the content of that template, paste it in notepad, and replace all occurances of$stylevar[imgdir_misc]withimages/misc/activity/darkor whereever you like.
If you have a parent style that most of your styles are derived from, you might opt to replace with something like {activity-images} and set a replacement variable for that in the child styles according to which directory is appropriate.
Please note that if you have styles with postbits that vary in certain ways from the defaults, you will have trouble with the JS postbit modifications. You can disable these by setting the postbit modification to default location and remove postcount and remove joindate to no. You can also disable them per-style by removing the content of the activity_postbit_epilogue template in the styles with trouble.

You'd pretty much have to edit them individually for that exact effect. If you look in the customization documentation, however, you will find that variables are exposed that would allow you to make the bar graph in other ways. You could, for instance, use the activitypercent to control a cell width in a table.

I have no trouble reading the post count out to a meter from my 20" 1600x1200 display. Even so, you could always change the images or leave the default count enabled. I have custom round images I use on zelaron, but they aren't easily reused; also, recent versions of FF have trouble with the HTML I used to layer them.
zero, the images were hand drawn in PSP. I created the filled image then unfilled it with the paint bucket, saving each step. I did this for both the light and dark versions. I also manually created each version of the ones I use on my forum.

You could create bar graphs in your templates by replacing your activity_statblock with this:

You could edit the graphics to be a different color. The text is a solid color, so you can just use the fill tool in your graphics editor. All the word graphics have the word "text" in their filename. You could also use the word graphics from the light set and everything else from the dark set.

Those things indicate that the JavaScript was unable to find the markers it needs to modify the postbit. If you turn off the options that require JS (alternate location and removing stuff), they should go away.
I don't know what GARS is but if you're only having trouble with the first post, you might be able to put a conditional in the activity_postbit_epilogue template so it doesn't run for the first post. You might try wrapping the current contents with <if condition="$post['postcount']>1">
</if>though I'm not sure if that will work.

After selecting your database from the dropdown on the left side (it may be pre-selected), click user on the left side. On the right side it will show a list of fields in the user table. I'm interested in the fields whose names start with wwu002. Also, check to see if a table named wwu002visitlog shows on the left side.
The quickest solution is to delete the fields starting with wwu002 and the wwu002visitlog table in phpmyadmin (you should backup your db first, incase you make a mistake). Once you do this, you will be able to install the mod normally. Alternately, if you tell me what is there, I can make a version of the mod install which does not create those fields.

I have this Downloaded - but the 'Today' Activity isn't showing.
It shows for the user, who is logged in - but for me viewing other users, it shows them at 0
I have it so it takes 2 posts, and 1 log in to be considered 'active' for the day...
And my other Admin has posted 43 times, and logged in several times - still reading nothing on the 'Today' portion when I look at his account.
But for HIM, it shows he's got full activity.
Is it soley for the user to see his own? Or did i do something wrong when installing?

From the opening post:
By configuration, 1 query may be added to each member profile view to find that member's "activity today".The number of queries added will vary depending on a number of factors, especially enabling options which add queries and viewing posts by users who haven't been processed for the day, yet. With the default options, midday (after all users have had a post view and thus have had their activity calculated and put in the database), it should add 0 to 1 queries to each page load depending on if the logged in user posted in that page.
I provide information about the load impact of each setting in the description of the setting in the CP (if no info is provided, then there is no load impact) so you should be able to easily tune this to your board.

My problem now is, I just ran through and did about 50 posts as a test, and the activity hasn't reflected that at all, I am not sure if I made an error when removing the 2 sections, or if it takes a full 24 hours to reflect.
Also, I am a member on boxden.com which I am sure is using your mod because they have the same thing there, however the "Longevity" was renamed to "Dope Meter" and the meter reflects the user reputation, are you aware of anyway to tie those two in together?

From the opening post:
Why don't the images don't show up?/Why does the postcount have 's's in front of it?
Be sure to upload one of the activity directories from activityimages.zip to the misc directory for each of your styles. To find a style's misc directory, goto the Style Manager, then from the dropdown next to the style, choose Stylevars. The setting Miscellaneous Images Folder contains the path to that style's misc directory, where you need to upload the activity directory
You need an activity directory within the misc directory, and it needs to be the correct misc directory for the style. If you right click the alt-text for the images and select properties, your browser should tell you where it's looking for the images, which is where you should put them.

It is installed and working properly and awesome, however I want to get rid of the "Today" and "Posts" part of them, they are turned off in the Display Settings, but still appear...any suggestions?
edit : I got rid of them in the "activity_statblock" ...so I believe I did that right.
Thanks for the great mod, and the help bud
The today bar fills up until the midnight you have set in the activity settings, then it dumps into the main activity. The reason the today bar exists is to clarify when a user has reached the maximum contribution to their activity bar for the day.
As for the reputation, I don't know how they did it, though there's many possibilities, I'm sure.

From the opening post:
You need an activity directory within the misc directory, and it needs to be the correct misc directory for the style. If you right click the alt-text for the images and select properties, your browser should tell you where it's looking for the images, which is where you should put them.
thanks man. its working:D
Just one thing, how would I change the position of the mod so its at the bottom of everything, for example, my thanks mod is at the top and this mod is at the bottom. How do I make it so the mod shows up under the thanks?
thanks

Well, the mod purposely tries to get close to the top, so you'd need to manually edit the postbit. There are instructions for doing this in the activity customization info file in the zip(you'd want to put the insert for the stats lower in the postbit than the instructions say to). Be sure to turn off automatic postbit modification in the display settings if you manually modify the postbit.

my site is still very slow when your plugin is enabled. memory goes up instantly to over 80% on my dedicated server, and also server load goes from normal under 5.00 to crazy over 55% used up.
any thoughts? the old version for the older vbulletin did not cause this problem

What settings are you using? There are many settings that will increase your load, especially "activity today" settings.
Have you tried enabling the mod at a low activity time and seeing how it reacts when activity rises? (because if you have a lot of users, activity must be calculated as posts are viewed authored by users whose activity hasn't been calculated yet for the day; you can "schedule" this load increase to happen when load in general is low) If this is effective, you can set the "midnight offset" setting to keep this schedule. (changing the setting, however, invalidates all activity calculated to that point since the setting effects the calculation)
A load average (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Load_average) of 5.00 indicates 100% utilization (for a 1 to 5 core server), so 55% would be a load decrease...
When you say the old version for the older vbulletin, you are refering to vB3.0 or vB3.5?

I don't see anything wrong with your settings. Nothing you have set should cause a continuous load increase. Again, what version of vB was it that you didn't have the problem with?
Also, I submit for your consideration that, as I said earlier, if your server's load average is usually at 5.00, your server is usually at 100% utilization already. Adding even a small amount of extra load to an overloaded server will just stack up and cause requests to take even longer. Maybe it's time to upgrade.
That said, there are significant changes between the vB3.0 and vB3.5 version of my mod to deal with hook locations, and it is possible that that is contributing.

I have a problem - that may look really hilarious, but to me is quite difficult.
What in the world is "main CSS page" and where can I find Additional CSS Definitions? I adore this mod and I always get an error, I suspect because I didn't add the definition.
Please, help me even if the question is one of a beginner. Thanks!

It's a selection on the dropdown next to the style name in the style manager. I doubt that not adding it would give you an error, though. If you are getting a JS error, it is due to the way that the mod tries to use JS to get arround the limitations of template hooks. If you turn off the display options that mention JS, it should get rid of the error.

i would liek to suggest that in ur next upgrade, please give more options concerning the placement of the images. i love this hack and dont want to undo it. but it is alongwith other mods, occupying a lot of place in the vertical postbit, thus making the posbit too wide.
is it possible to move it in the center of the vertical postbit? i mean not on the left, not on the right (near the avatar), but in the center? so that the width of the vertical postbit is controlled a tad. if by doing it manually it is achieved, then please do let us know which codes should we add and where should we add, cause not all of us are professional coders:)

The following is what i wanted to do:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/12/25.png
Taking the activity display from the right side and putting it in the center of the postbit.
as u can see my postbit vertical width is too much wide. :( my users complain about it but neither i nor my users, want to get rid of these hacks and mods. we wanna use all of them.

What you want is already built in. Choose "Alternate location" for automatic postbit alteration in Activity Display Settings. This is assuming you're using a horizontal postbit. If for some reason, the JS doesn't work, there is a file in the zip file detailing how to manually add the mod to your postbit after turning automatic alteration off.

Assuming you're only using the horizontal postbit, go to the bottom of that file, where it has the heading "Manual postbit modifications." You'll want to do the modifications for "postbit (alternate location)". You can open your postbit template for editing from the style manager, clicking the <<>> button next to the style to change, then finding the postbit template. Find each find section in the template (the template editor's search function my be of use), then add the insert block above or below that section as indicated. Click save to save the changes. At first, you will have the activity info in both places. Go into activity display settings and set Automatic postbit modification to none to remove it from the old location.

ok thanx. i managed according to instructions.
but the location after these changes is some what odd.
so these are the two template changes that i should do i mean change their location and see where it gets displayed?
because i still didnt get the block displayed in the middle of the horizontal postbit. it went to the extreme right of the postbit.:)
thanx for the guidance.

Hmm, so it is. It's been a long time since I've had a forum with a horizontal postbit so I'd forgotten it was on the right. For the second insert, instead add it below
$template_hook[postbit_userinfo_left]
</td>
<td width="100%"> </td>

Hi,
For some reason my users are not being promoted once the "promotion criteria" is being met at any level. Do have any suggestions where I should look? I have tried running the "Do Memberlevel Promotions" job but it still doesn't work.
Thank you
WetWired

Have you checked the users additional groups? The promotion system does not change their main group.
Also be sure you're entering the numerical ID of the group (displayed in the drop down on the right side in the usergroup manager).

Hi great hack I just have one problem. After installing the hack my adminCP left nav menu collapses and will not stay open. The "Save Prefs" link at the top does not seem to save the menu to the open position. Is there any way to solve this?

I'm sure it's possible to fix, but it won't be simple. For now, I suggest just leaving the activity settings minimized. Eventually, I'll get a chance to look at this in-depth.

You are right, the error still appears, and probably it is because of Java Script, but I have o clue how can I get rid of it. I simply love this mod and I cannot use it. Where should I go to turn off the display options mentioning JS?!
Thank you very, very much!

Either go into activity display settings and set postbit alteration to default and both options below it to no, or you can disable it per-style by removing the contents of the activity_postbit_epilogue template.

I am trying to pick up the member of the month by their activities in the forums.
Old members have higher levels of rep and the new yet zealous ones can not catch up with them.
How can I set today's activity to this month's activity?
thanks & regards
WetWired
01-05-2009, 03:35 AM
You can't. Today's activity is a relatively quick thing requiring no calculation, whereas once you involve multiple days that is no longer the case. If you want to guage a month's activity, why not just set the activity settings to consider 4 weeks?

In order to be XHTML compliant, the images for the postcount use the digit designator as the alternate text. 's' is the digit designator for a space. You can always edit out the alt tags on the activity_statblock template if it bothers you.
