Hi there. I have a question that is bodering me for some time. When performing an upgrade we will get a lot (or not. depending of the amount of changed ones) templates to revert, every time i did the upgrade i have reverted all of them and did the heavy task of redo all mods. What i want to know is if we do have to revert them or can just save them as they are. Thanks in advance.

What I do is open the template to edit and hit View History. Then I compare my version of the template to the vbulletin default version. The changes are highlighted and it makes it easy for me to see what I need to edit (or if I can just hit revert).

If the upgrade script calls for you to revert them, you should do it as they have made changes to the default templates. The security token issue is a good example. The easiest way to do it is as Lynne said, compare them and mark the changes you have made and then revert them and re-add the changes. I usually mark any hacks lines I have installed with:
<!-- Hack Name goes here -->
code added to template
<!-- / Hack Name goes here -->
That way it is easier to find the changes and re-add them.

I also think that we should revert them, but as far as i can tell i have seen that after upgrade (taking the last upgrade as example) all new changes are in the templates plus my mods too. So i was wondering if we really have to revert or a simple save can be done. I'm i wrong here?

Reverting them is always the best way to go and what is recommended.

If you're using a custom template, then editing the templates yourself is the better option. Just reverting them could cause all kinds of problems with your style. For example, you may not be using the navbar template for your navbar...
Reverting the templates is recommend IMO because Jelsoft assume everyone use the default style..

Jelsoft employees will, unless the cause is clearly a modified template, not advise to revert a template. Support staff wil always start with suggesting to create a new style without a parent in order to determine if the probem is caused by a style issue before advising to revert.

So i can safelly upgrade and leave templates un-reverted or save them as they are?
