Hello all,
i got some question regarding a domain name.

Can i just register a name with starwars in it and create a forum upon it?

nope...once you don't charge people for products by attaching the star wars logo on it (unless you get copyright permission from the people at lucasart), you are free to do what you want since it is seen as a non-profit fan site.

Don't know if you work for Lucas Art or if you have done a research on the word "starwars"? If not, i would not make such statements.

Do you know if it is registered as a trademark?

If it is registered as a trademark, then it does not make a difference if you use it for a free community or for commercial purposes.

That's the problem with Copyright Law nowadays, it's subject of interpretation ;)

Well I guess it applies specifically...would it be fair to say that people in the gaming community cannot use a game name as well as some variation as their web URL? If that were the case, many sites would not be in existence. I think it is case specific really.

I guess there are restrictions with starwars... usage of the STAR WARS title >> http://www.theforce.net/SWTC/gallery.html
