Mobile Phone SMS Plugin is a product that integrates vbulletin with the MobileBill Reverse SMS Billing Solutions. Registration is free but use of service is billable. (Works the same way as Paypal, except payment is taken from your members Mobile Phones, no credit cards needed).

Please Note: This service is currently open to the UK mobile phone networks, we will be introducing the rest of the world very soon.

Summary

MobileBill allows you to charge your members for accessing a restricted forum, by billing them monthly via their mobile phone (The money is taken from their phone credit or added to their monthly bill). This plugin is free to install, with no time limits.

1) Download and install this plugin (instructions below)
2) Signup for a FREE SMS account www.mobilebill.net (http://www.mobilebill.net)
3) Configure the plugin in your vBulletin Admin Area
4) Create a new private forum that only the VIP members usergroup has access to
5) Add the sms signup link to any page on your forum and your good to go!

2) Import XML file (as product): AdminCP > Plugin System > Manage Products > [Add/Import Product]

How does it work?

You may have some audio, video, tutorials, photos, litterature or simply a private area of your forum that you can offer to your members as an additional bonus for them signing up as a VIP Member.

Because they will be upgraded to a VIP usergroup, you can give that usergroup extra privileges such as bigger private message capacity, different colour user titles, bigger avator/profile pictures, you could remove advertising banners just for that usergroup....

Your members then decide if they want to upgrade, so they text to our SMS Number (78889), our server then authorises and takes payment from their mobile phone. Once verified, our server sends your member a text message with a password in, they must then enter that password in the sms signup page on your forum (Supplied by us).

Our server then verify's this once more, before sending back a success request to your forum, which then in turn, upgrades their usergroup to the VIP usergroup.

Your members then have instant access to your premium content & private forum, and within minutes you have earned either ?1.50, ?3.00 or ?6.00 from that member, and it continues to bill their mobile phone, every week or month, untill they text STOP to 78889.

We have a strict policy against scammers, and we ban such people from our network. We expect all members to adhere to strict rules and we insist on our customers displaying info on how your members can cancel at any time.

Your members are sent these instuctions via text on how to cancel when they sign up, so everything is crystal clear from the start.

When the next payment is due from your member, our server will automatically take the next payment off their mobile phone.

If they have no credit left our server will notify your forum, which it will then downgrade their usergroup back to the one it was before it was upgraded.

Its a fully automated system from start to finish. And all you've got to do, is worry about keeping the premium content up-to-date, giving them a reason to stay signed up as a VIP member.

The vBulletin Admins temporary suspended the thread while they had a meeting about whether to allow this mod (Because of the commerical nature of it). After several days discussion, they agreed to allow it on the basis of us stating that the service is free to setup, but we take a cut from the transactions, just like paypal do.

There is zero security issue and it is completely secure for your forum.

Is it possible to have a few more options regarding payments, periods of memberships and amounts? I mean it looks fairly limited to me, as a webmaster I want the option of yearly memberships for lets say £10 per year?. Are you willing to think about more payment options?. Also what percentage of earning do you take?

Can I sign up still if I live in Australia?
Yes you can still signup no matter what country you're from, just for the time being, you can only bill customers from the UK.

How will I receive my payments?
Via Paypal for now. Direct bank payments will follow later this year.

How long until other countries can start using this sms service?
Within the next few months.

Will you make it possible for members to be able to pay more then $6?
Per transaction, we currently offer ?1.50 ($3)..........with ?3 ($6) and ?6 ($12) coming very very soon.

The current billing periods are either weekly or monthly (Daily and Yearly also coming very soon)

All ready to go, signed up/installed etc, etc and on entering a test SMS received password I get: Table 'XXXXXX_quotes.user' doesn't exist

I have raised your questions with our plugin developer and copied you in the thread. At this time I cannot speculate why you are receiving this error, but Im confident we can get to the bottom of it quickly.

The sms_signup.php page is only viewable by registered members. Unregistered guests trying to view that page will receive a request to log into their account first. If you see differently, please let our dev guy know in the thread I cc'd you into.

This looks like a truly great mod and will suit my forum perfectly... I REALLY need the non UK functionality (despite my being based in the UK though ;) ) - countries high on my list will be

W Europe,
USA,
Canada,
E.Europe
& Autralia.

Im confident I can get 500+ subscribers on this system in a short while, but I need it worldwide really!

Hi there, great mod, installed.. However ive tried it out on a test account, and got it all working, but when it got upgraded to a "VIP" usergroup, it replaced the "registered usergroup" as primary usergroup, and now their are no permissions set, the account cannot view anything.. is there a way of making it a secondary user, so it will just have the added benefits, and no risj of losing the Original Benefits... i have updated the "Vip" usergroup permissions to what i want the to be, however it is being ignored, probably by another product.

Great work again, and am looking forward to a responce.

Version 1.1.3 - Includes support for Daily, Weeky, Monthly, Yearly & One Time Charges for Donations! up to 30GBP

We have had an extremely busy time over the last few months and the response to the
service has been phenomenal. We really appreciate the feedback we have received (good & bad) as it has helped us to grow the service to better serve your needs. While we are continually improving the service, here are a few additions we have made recently which will bring more revenue options to you

- Donations and one time charges have been released! You can now create donations (aka one time charge) campaigns in your members area. Tariff is set at 1.50 GBP per message right now, but we will be expanding this to offer 3.00 GBP and 4.50 GPB per charge/donation.

- The admin panel has a selection to decide which campaign type you wish to run, and you can choose to have the usergroup upgrade/downgrade functionality turned on or off.

- Direct API Access. For one time charges / donations we have released our API instructions, available in the MobileBill Members area. This allows non vBulletin sites/systems to integrate with our one time
charge/donation system via XML over HTTPS secure SSL connectivity. If you require some help with this, we can provide a basic PHP framework unger GPL.

- Country Access. We are currently in negotiations with a supplier for the USA market. For those of you that are interested in being able to bill USA handsets, please let us know via email or a support ticket, along with your projected volumes of billing events.

- Password Reminder:
When inputting a Campaign password to the API or to the vBulletin plugin, please remember that you must use your Campaign password (from the Campaigns screen on the members area) for authentication. Please do not attempt to use your Mobilebill members area password in the plugin
or via the API, or you will experience technical issues when trying to validate the password your users received on their handsets.

Looks promising. I have over 200 000 members on my site, and I am sure many would like to use this feature instead of paypal. I too am waiting for other countries. However just a quick question tho, I know the info is above, but I like to hear it.

If I charge someone $4.50 It will cost them $4.50 right? or do they get extra charges? and how much of that $4.50 will I get?

First off, our system currently only deals with UK GBP, so our charge amounts are

£1.50 ($3)
£3.00 ($6)
£4.50 ($9)

Out of every £1.50, you receive 80p. The mobile operators receive a big chunk of that. Here's how the percentage share looks

You = 53.33%
Us = 3.33%
Mobile Operators = 43.33%

You'll find the same charges apply to all SMS companies. Although sms service companies like us, take more like 5% and charge monthly service fees, where as we only take 3.33% and charge no fees for use, integration help or support of the service.

And yes, if you charge £1.50, the end user is charged £1.50 in total.

That could be either recurring (subscription) or a one off charge (donation).
