View Full Version : Statistics Modifications - Woopra for vBulletin

Woopra (http://www.woopra.com/) is a hosted live tracking site that allows you to examine the live stats of your website. This plugin will allow your site to be tracked by Woopra. You still need an account on Woopra and your site to be approved for this to work!

Install & Config
Install the product_woopra_stats.xml in your product page. Upload the bitfield XML to your XML directory under includes. :) Enter your Woopra Site ID number under your forum settings options. This is needed for the template to process. There are other options there also!

Please click install if you install this! Support faster to those with "Install" clicked, but not needed. Thanks!

Please Note!
Woopra does not support this plugin. I do. So if you have any problems with the plugin, please contact me. If it has to deal with the software that they provide, I can not deal with it. Registration problems on Woopra I can not deal with either.

Woopra Official Plugin Directory URL
Woopra on their site has an official plugin directory on their website, however it links back to this post.

Screenshots
They are limited, but you can get an idea by visiting their website to see how it works and the type of data that you get. I updated this post too include screens from my view. This is view the Java APP that you can connect with. It's very fun! :) (Note: I run 1900x1200 so they got automatically re-sized here... so.... http://www.frakmedia.net/shane/woopra/ is where I placed some images)

Known Problems
User Title/User Group - This should be showing the "group name", not the title. I will have this fixed in 1.0.5.Version History
1.0.0 - Initial Release
1.0.1 - Talking with the Woopra dev team, non-logged in users will show up as "Visitor X" and so on.
1.0.2 - New data can be passed: "Post Count", "User Title", "Join Date" Also the fields that are passed names are based off your default forum language. This means "Email" will still be "Email" (inside the Woopra Java App) if you have the forum default to Enligsh, no matter if your user has set theirs to another language. Moved Javascript code to load after forum display/thread listing instead of on top. Can be used as far back as 3.6.8 but designed on 3.7.x.
1.0.3 - $spacer_open is in more places than I thought making it count to many times. I moved it back to the header of "$_phpinclude_output".
1.0.4 - Avatar will not show up as a black box if the user in question does not have one in set. (A fix to deal with new app version.) Email will be standard clickable link in the application soon. Changed array name from woopra_array to woopra_visitor. Phrases for the items instead of using others.

Shane
04-02-2008, 08:13 PM
Data that is gathered is complied live compared to Google Analytics and Quantcast where you have to wait after a certain time to see your results. You can't also actively track to see where users are going in your site (forum in our case) in and out and their patterns.

When I am logged in I can watch one user go from the main page, reply to a post, read a thread and go off to another site, then come right back and do something else. It's really something else. Once I get a code for another one of my sites, it's going to help a lot because the site is so huge I want to be able to see how people navigate around the site, as most of them are visitors.

Like my Ex GF says: 'Answer me the question!' :P

Who's better, Google Analytics or Woopra?

Shane
04-02-2008, 08:31 PM
I can't say. That's a personal option. I have never used Google Analytics.

I saw this, and I feel in love because I love the details. I contacted the dev team right after my initial creation and they were like... "Send our way now! Thanks!". Now I got them in my Google Talk contacts. Originally this was designed to be used on a WordPress installation. Course.. it's designed for any site. All you really have to do is add the code, and this plugin, makes it simple to do that. :)

does it spider your site,too ? like google ? i mean, is it good for more traffic and search engine hits ?

Shane
04-02-2008, 08:49 PM
I don't think so. It gathers data based off them visiting the site. I can really care less where the spiders go. I haven't seen any popup, so I doubt they are being tracked.

The following dependencies were not met:

1. This product is not compatible with version 3.7.0 Beta 6 of vBulletin. (Compatible starting with 3.7.0 Release Candidate 1)

Shane

That is correct. You need at least 3.7.1 RC 1. You should be on RC2. Beta has ended a while ago.

Just give them time. I had to beg the dev team to give me an invite code. I am working on some "features". You can add custom fields to track. Forum name, etc. What ever you can think of. :)

Update: I talked with the dev team, and they assure me that there will be no codes given out until next week. They are upgrading their server farm. Coupled with a software update, they assure me that next week it will be open and everyone will be approved.

I have started updating a new version of the plugin. Even though it seems pointless, I been thinking of how to add custom data that can be passed when a user is process. Forum thread, style, age, etc. There is a whole range of information I can pull. So I'm going to hold off any other updates until it's officially released in a few days. Also working on making the primary javascript hostable for those who might have bad or slow internet connections.

There is nothing I can do about it... I don't even have invite codes. :( I been able to get only my one site approved and that's been for development only. There was a couple of days that they were working on the servers and it went super slow. I had to even disable it for about 10 minutes. They setup a forums (non-vb) on their site to keep everyone up to date. If your site grew from 200 to 2 million in a few days, you have to work out the logistics in getting the proper resources to help this successful beta.

A few weeks after introducing Woopra beta in WordCamp Dallas, we are happy to announce that we are going to start a massive approval process on Friday 25 of April. A new version of the software will be released on that day that includes a couple of new amazing features (segmentation, directories tracking, improved user interface, enhanced instant messaging etc…). Note that you will receive an email upon approval.

i hope i get my code at this day

I am a Omniture Specialist.. and what i've noticed is analytics its never as dependable as we'd like it to be.. At my office, we use Omniture Suite and Google Analytics at the same time.,
In my opinion, Omniture is better than Google Analytics because it is more powerful in the data it displays out of the box... what makes google analytics such a great tool is that its powerful and FREE!!

however.., for those who are not proficient in coding multiple pages, both google analytics and omniture (which is not free).., can be daunting...

this woopra sounds like it is a great tool for a board... because the coding is already done for you......

so, i'll wait....

I just got my woopra approval today.

Because of their intermittent downtime, would there be a way to stop showing the woopra code if it lags for X amount of time or if their server is unreachable?

That way the site won't slow to a crawl when the woopra site goes down.

Nice, guys. "Beautiful way" to let woopra and other similar companies know everything about your site, so they can make tons of money of your back because you tell them step by step how and where people go and come to your sites.

I don’t like the idea of a certain company like Google Analytics having its fingers in my pocket at all time by not only providing traffic, PPC income, but also having stats as well. You really think they will give some beautiful stats for free? They will use your info and sell it to big companies like Microsoft etc. What I do with my site is my business, not their. If you like that, go ahead and use those services.

If anyone wants to remove 4 queries you need to do the following : Disable usertitle and other 2 enchanments , edit the plugin and remove the following
$woopra_email_phrase = fetch_phrase('email', 'global', '', '', '', $vbulletin->options['languageid']);
$woopra_usertitle_phrase = fetch_phrase('user_title', 'user', '', '', '', $vbulletin->options['languageid']);
$woopra_totalposts_phrase = fetch_phrase('total_posts', 'user', '', '', '', $vbulletin->options['languageid']);

You mean being able to output their real name to Woopra? You just have to edit the template yourself as if it's a custom field, I have no idea what field number that would be. Just follow the syntax in the template for the javascript and it should be easily done.

I really like this product. It makes tracking things nice. One feature Ive found of particular interest is the "Manage" tab. Say you add something new to your forum and you want to track its useage or popularity. You can set an event for that page and every time someone views it, a popup with a sound (or without) happens.

For me, Ive been trying to increase traffic to our game wiki and trying various methods to do that. I use the event notification for real time reactions to whatever it is Im trying. Pretty good stuff.

will this mod (or whoopra) increase loading times for my site?

I have 50k registered members and no less then 1200 on the site at any time.

Not really.

Right now, I will not be providing the javascript file as it's being re-coded by the Woopra devs.

If anyone has an extra woopra invitation I would really appreciate, you can send it by PM.

I was excited to check this product out, then equally as dissappointed after downloading everything, setting up an account, only to find out I need an invitation to activate my site :(

Thanks,
Jason

It is only good through 10,000 page views a day in beta stages... That does not last long for some forums... I'll look forward to when they get past the beta stage, or beta larger forums.

It seems as if ever since I upgraded to 3.7.0 Gold, my stats are no longer working.

I have it on two different forums on two completely different domains. One is on a subdomain, and one is on a subdirectory... same problem.

The weird thing is that yesterday I was looking and it registered two of my hits on the live view, but then stopped working again.

Anyone have any ideas?

I finally got my domain activated, only to find out it only supports up to 10,000 page views a day :(

This would be great for small communities or support systems. Sadly, they imply all over the place that this will not be free after the beta is over with.

Hello all
First of all....good job....very usefully Tool.

I have only two questions.
Is it correct that the forwarded Url's to an other dosend work?Or maybe i make something wrong?
I have a Domain Name www.something1.com somewhere hosted and i forward it to www.something2.com. The www.something2.com is the live URL from the Forum.
Result no statistics in the first URL interface. The real works great.

And the second Question.The avatars not showed.
Have i to tell from where he has to take the avatars?

Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers

Can someone please post the download link for the client script file? This has slowed my site down big time. Google A does the sae thing. I think if switch to the local option as provided in the admin option my situation wil improve. The problem is that it asks for a file that is not provided.

I installed this yesterday and I still see no stats. Ho long does this generally take??

By he way- to everyone posting about waiting for approval-- It took a few weeks or mine so just hang in there and wait... This is all new..

Thanks for the mod.. Great alternative to google anlytics..

It will be interesting what their price model will be... I'd be surprised if it were not related to usage or page views. They better keep it cheap or no matter how cool it is, it doesn't do a whole more (IMO) than Google Analytics, and analytics is free. They would be in trouble if Google created a real time interface.

Hi,
I get my detail now after a couple of weeks.
Now I wait for the first stats.

I took a look in Source of my Forum:
<script type="text/javascript">
woopra_id = 'xxx';
var woopra_visitor = new Array();
woopra_visitor['name'] = 'xxx';
woopra_visitor['avatar'] = '';
woopra_visitor['email'] = 'xxx';

</script>
<script src="http://static.woopra.com/js/woopra.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

Ar that the Information that the plug in collect an hand over to woopra?
Name - Ok
avatar - not necessary
email - ??? I don't link to share that information, this should be stay secret in my Database.

Is there a Way to disable that?

Thanks

Only problem (and is not one of the product) is you only get 10,000 page views a day while in beta. I was sitting feeling like I was in a Nasa control room and then after an hour it died :(

Right now download it from the static URL, and save it in your clientscript folder with the name I gave it. That should do it.

Woopra is full of bugs in the program itself. I have been using it for a few days now and it does seem buggy to me and the end program seems to have load issues as well as is reported on their forums along with quite a list of other problems. Such as inaccurate stats tracking being reported a few users who were testing it out. As well as it losing track of tagged members. I think theres potential here hopefully the next release from the woopra team will get things running better. Let me state this to make sure there are no misunderstandings. The problems are not in this plugin but on woopra's side.

What I've just done is to turn off the plug and then insert it manually into the homepage near the Who's Online box. With it only being displayed on the homepage, I can at least get a track of higher visitor numbers and member infomation by losing the capability to view what exact page they're on.

In this section of the PHP code,

$woopra_homeurl = $vbulletin->options['homeurl'];
if (has_avatar($vbulletin->userinfo['userid']))
{
$woopra_avatar_url = $woopra_homeurl . "/image.php?u=" . $vbulletin->userinfo['userid'];
}

the output for $woopra_avatar_url is http://www.domain.com//image.php?u=#

It should be http://www.domain.com/forumdir/image.php?u=#

It is referencing HomeURL as opposed to ForumURL (not sure about the variable name)

HomeURL = http://www.domain.com
ForumURL = http://www.domain.com/forum

a update from woopra

* The Woopra tracking javascript has now been reduced to a single standard line of code.
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://static.woopra.com/js/woopra.js"></script>
* Users will no longer be required to keep track of or enter Website IDs into plugins such as WordPress, Joomla, vBulletin or other CMS platforms. Indeed, the old Website ID and Code links are gone from the Member’s area and are no longer required in the javascript.

The beta approval came in today, and I reinstalled the plugin. Apparently there's no ID number given out in the beta anymore, as the manual install requires a simple paste of a script into the footer template. So I am not sure if there's any need to install this product or not.

The data does come in, but the names of the members do not get passed through; I've been tagging the members manually by referring to their IP addresses.

Any pointers appreciated.

Also, Woopra always shows a few less members online than vbulletin shows.

I notice that many guests do not show up.

As a test I disabled the plugin and Woopra still receives data from the server, so I suspect that the manually-added script code inside the footer template suffices for that. Can anyone confirm that this vB plugin is defunct?

Also, in case this plugin is still needed, is the "WebID" the same as the "API Key" which Woopra provides? I tried to place their "API key" into the plugin's "WebID" but it didn't seem to help (or hurt).

I believe the issue there might be the way VB tracks users - if a user drops off the website without logging out manually then VB will "see" them as still present for a while. This may be based on session cookie length.

With Woopra I believe it is better able to ascertain when users leave the webserver.

Here's a post from the Woopra forum regarding VB & usernames:

This looks promising, too bad it's limited to 10k pageviews per day.

I'd pay for a live analytics tool though. Having to wait a day for Google to crunch their stuff is annoying.

Well it seems both my +10k websites were approved for free beta in <1 minute O_O

Off to install this plugin :)

The Plug In looks for a non-empty Site ID to determine if it is "active". To make the plug in work and have the additional items show up, install the plug in as directed, then put some random number in the SiteID and remove the following line from product-woopra_stats.xml file :

woopra_id = '$woopra_site_id';

Also, the plug-in looks for the "home" url and on my system that is the root URL and not hte subdirectory that the forum is located in, so I made this one change.

If you already installed it and the avatars are not showing up, in the Plug-In section of vBulletin, "Header: Add Woopra Javascript", edit "parse_templates" and add "forum" or the subdirectory your forum is in before /image.php as seen below.

$woopra_avatar_url = $woopra_homeurl . "forum/image.php?u=" . $vbulletin->userinfo['userid'];

You could have also made the change in the xml file ahead of time, but I didn't test this.

Yeah, there might be a better way to do it, but that seems to work for me on this revision. You will see in the javascript that there is other parameters being passed and those are the ones that make it so you can see the avatar and other info in your stats.

I am looking forward to another revision of the plug in.

How long does it take to get approved? I applied 2 days ago and still haven't heard anything - my site has less than 1000 page views per day

Never mind - got approval after 4 days !! Just going to install it

I have no idea what you are saying here... I dont think image.php works for this if you draw your avatars from files instead of the database.

Are all your forum files on the root directory or do you have them in a sub directory on your server? I'm not an expert but I think he's saying that he has his forum files in a folder titled "forum" rather than all the files sitting right in the root. However, I have all my files in the root and having just "/image.php?" doesn't work, not sure why.

kpierce... I think its because we dont store avatars in the database... my avatars are called up by their exact file path, not through image.php.

Anyway... is there any way to get this program to referr the actually QUERED URL of a page? Lots of pages are listed as /albums.php instead of something like: /album.php?albumid=12&pictureid=187

Without the query string, I really dont get any of the information I need.

they all show the actual path for me, but it may be because vbseo is installed :confused:

I use TFSEO... so only the forums are actual links. Everything else is queried. VBSEO is too expensive.

Okay... I use file structure avatars (not database), so I've diagnosed two problems with this mod... The following code is broken in TWO places:

if (has_avatar($vbulletin->userinfo['userid']))
{
$woopra_avatar_url = $woopra_homeurl . "/image.php?u=" . $vbulletin->userinfo['userid'];
}

Firstly, the has_avatar function doesn't work. The if statement ALWAYS fails 100%. If you get rid of the if statement, then image.php fails because the images are not being read from the database, they should be read from the file structure. So I replaced the above lines with the following, and it worked great:

require_once(DIR . '/includes/functions_user.php');
$woopra_avatar_url = fetch_avatar_url($vbulletin->userinfo['userid']);
$woopra_avatar_url = $woopra_homeurl . '/' . $woopra_avatar_url[0];

I'm a bit lost. In the options for this modification, it asks for the Website ID. So I go to my Woopra account, and it does not give me the website ID. So I asked at their support forums, and they say the website IDs were dropped in favor of APIs. Here's the thread:
http://www.woopra.com/forums/topic/finding-my-website-id

So now how do I setup my vB installation to work with Woopra? Do I just place my API key in the "Website ID" box instead?

kpierce
12-08-2008, 12:46 AM
Nope, the API key isn't needed either. Just make up a number for website ID in the options menu. Be sure to paste the required script in the footer template too.

Will filling in a random number even do anything? I don't understand how this mod will work if it doesn't know how to "connect" with my Woopra account...?

Filling in the random number needs to be done for the usernames to show up in Woopra. I can't tell ya how it all works, just what I did to make it work.

Worked for me! :D

I noticed that after about a week or two of use of this, my site's footer started to take forever to load. The whole page would load, but the footer would load about 30 seconds later...
Then, the ENTIRE site took forever to load. I disabled this plugin and removed the footer code, and voila -- it's back up to speed.

Something in this plugin/woopra code caused my site to slow down. What I don't understand is why it happened a week or two after use.

when woopra's servers are down the javascript makes the page hang on firefox, or on a separate domain your forum uses that is not recognized.

anyway 10k pageviews dont do me any good.

it took woopra two months to activate my website but now - it looks very nice :)

have you checked out if using the local javascript might fix that issue?

woopra_visitor['email'] = '$bbuserinfo[email]';
why is it needed to transmit the users' email addresses to woopra?
emails are sensitive user data - would be nice to have that optional in a future version ... I would kick ass any webmaster who sends my email address to other web serives ...
I removed that line and the mod seems to work anyway.

thanks for that mod

vBulletin Options > Woopra Options

You should lookup your API code at your website profile located at http://www.woopra.com/members/ and place it on Woopra Options' page.

The one thing I cant still understand is the "chat" from the woopra application, anyone knows?

I have and I think Woopra's feature set is great; however, the 10k page impressions limit (beta limit) and the fact that is is still in "beta" is ridiculous.. If you have a forum that does around 10k page views a day and get into the beta program, enjoy the heck out of it..

At this point I would love for someone to build something similar and launch the damn thing.. Put a price on it.. This just feels like an investor jerk-off to me.. There is no reason this shouldn't be production by now.

Woopra has finally launched today. See http://www.woopra.com/blog/2009/10/12/woopra-officially-exits-beta/.

Any plans to upgrade and release this as officially working with latest version of vbulletin. It works fine on mine but it would be nice to know it has the latest features....

Thank you, but I had to make a couple changes to this aswell. I replaced

$woopra_homeurl = $vbulletin->options['homeurl']
if (has_avatar($vbulletin->userinfo['userid']))
{
$woopra_avatar_url = $woopra_homeurl . "/image.php?u=" . $vbulletin->userinfo['userid'];
}

with

$woopra_homeurl = $vbulletin->options['bburl'];
require_once(DIR . '/includes/functions_user.php');
$avatar_url = fetch_avatar_url($vbulletin->userinfo['userid']);
$woopra_avatar_url = str_replace('./', "", $avatar_url);
$woopra_avatar_url = $woopra_homeurl . "/" . $woopra_avatar_url[0];

I am still working on an if statement for those without avatars

I've been getting a lot of poor loading times lately.
The browser just hangs and says "waiting for mysite.com.woopra-ns.com..."

Because of this it caused other footer mods/plugins to not load.

I've had to remove it. :(

Removed now :

1. Woopra is to expensive since going commercial.

2. This Mod has never been really updated and still uses the old Javascript.

Hello. Tell me please, is it plug-in only for HTML sites?
I use vbulletin 5.2.0. It is online constructor.
I don't know what is means:
Install the product_woopra_stats.xml in your product page. Upload the bitfield XML to your XML directory under includes.
How can i use woopra plug-in for vbulletin 5.2.0? Is it real?

You can always hire someone or read the instructions but you need to find avb5 version first if there is one.
