Site Life Status for vB3.7
Version 1.0.4
(By Boofo)
What does this product do?
This product will add a Site Life Status info area, including Site Startup Date, Site Age and a Pagehits counter to your forumhome What's Going On box.
NOTE: The maximum counter value will depend on your system. The maximum signed integer value for 32 bit systems is 2147483647 (or 2,147,483,647), while the maximum signed integer value for 64 bit systems is 9223372036854775807 (or 9,223,372,036,854,775,807). These are the highest numbers this counter will be able to count to, depending on your system.
Version Information:
Version 1.0.1 --Initial release for vB3.7
Version 1.0.2 --Fixed changed variable in the template manual edit code.
Version 1.0.3 --Added phrases for counter. Now fully phrased.
Version 1.0.4 --Counter moved to the datastore. Added setting for the page views start count.
NOTE: You will need to uninstall any previous version and do a clean install of 1.0.4 to upgrade. You will also need to delete the forumhome_pagehits.txt file as it is no longer needed.
Credits:
A big thank you goes out to Shawn Dean for supplying the javascript code for the Site Age counter.

Hope you don't mind me doing this but thought I would share it with other people.
In Template: [site_life_status]

Hey Boofo,
I have a quick question. I have this up and running works great BUT...
for some odd reason, the stats sometimes CHANGE.
For example, the other day my site stats were 27,000 people who have visited and this morning it was 18,000.
Is there something I am missing? Isn't this just a set it and forget it ?
I love the mod though....
Just thought I would ask.

Make sure you have no commas in the txt file. It should read something like: 27677
Other than that, there is no way it can be doing what you say it is. It updates the txt file by one on every page view and then reads it back. If it was to change, it couldn't go back to what it originally was before the change and start counting again. It would have no way to remember.
SuperDave71

Boofo

What do you mean by 'reset'? Since the page count is read from the file only, it has no way to remember any count to be reset to other than what is written to the file. Mine is working flawlessly, and has been since I installed it. You can try taking the following line out of the code in the forumhome_complete hook to see it that helps:
$hits[0] = (float) $hits[0];
Since you guys are using such ridiculously large numbers, that might be the reason it is acting up on you.

Why??
Won't number's of hits ever get that high, if we got say 3,000 hits a week (some site's i'd say get far more than that) over 52 weeks and 5 years thats a high number

Hey Guys,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I must say, I thought I fixed this one as well with the code modiification but it was not the case.
This morning before work, I had 32412 hits on the visitors.
When I got to work, it was set to 12232.
I have no idea what the issue could be. Sadly, I am going to have to remove this mod for now.
Please post if anyone else is having issues. I know Boofo has quailty mods and this is by NO means any reflection on his work. I am sure there is something possibly conflicting on my site.
Just wanted to offer a friendly heads up.
Thanks.

Beings you are the only one who has reported the fix not working, it has to be something you changed or another hack interfering with this one. Possibly the same gremlin that messed up the Site Map hack? ;)

I had the date formatted incorrectly... I had the day formatted to a 2 digit... ie I had in Jan. 01 2008 and FF java script doesn't like the 2 digit day format. Changed it to Jan. 1 2008 and things are good.

I thought of a little recommendation for this mod.
For instance, when page views / registration logins / guest visitors are increased for the day, you can have a green arrow pointing upwards with something like - ^ 115% from yesterday or something like that. (meaning its 115 % move lively then yesterday ) you can use different parameters to calculate the overall percentage.

How high was the number before it reset? I will do the Google Dance ad see if I can come up with a reason but it almost has to be something interfering either with the really high numbers or something else on your site. What doesn't make sense is if it is resetting itself, it should reset to 0 or blank. There is no way it can remember anything. Unless I can look at things, I'm not sure what is happening.

Well, the only way it can mess up now is if everything else messed up first as this now uses the db datastore. Foolproof, as much as possible.
The rob30UK style won't be accurate as it doesn't account for months with 31 days, or February with 28 days. And weeks was not added as the days would never get over 7 in the count.
Take another look as the AND part was added in the new version.

OK, here's what you do. You go to user id 1's account and look at their join date. Use that as the site start date. Then calculate how many hits you "think" you've had and enter that in the hits setting. This is not rocket science. ;)

How it that going to process less often? It will still run on every page refresh, right? I am running that in the global_shutdown hook already.
Andreas
05-18-2008, 11:22 AM
Currently the code is on global_shutdown, eg. being executed on every page.
But due to the condition it does the query only when the current script is index.php (forumhome).
So why not execute it just for index.php and avoid the condition on all other pages?
I don't see a reason for putting the code in a global place when there is an appropriate hook forumhome_complete that has exactly the context you want ;)
Boofo
05-18-2008, 11:26 AM
OK, that makes sense. Code moved and setting deleted.
Can the starting count setting code stay in global_shutdown or should that be moved also?
And thanks for the heads up, sir. You know when you speak, I listen. ;)
Andreas

I'd remove that from frontend code and handle it completely within ACP:
Make appropriate plugins for the misc.php ACP script and let the user set the start there - no need for an option.

He can set the hits for how many he thinks he has, though. It wouldn't be too hard to figure out an approximate hit count.

The datastore is faster and less server intensive. And the text file wasn't working right on some servers and I never did figure out why. Plus, all settings can be done in the Admin CP now so no more need for chmodding anything or editing the text file for the hit count.
Plus "datastore" sounds so much cooler, don't you think? ;)

He probably didn't think of that :-p

If it was showing 0 at all times, you didn't do the config.php specilatemplates edit.

Installed! Thank you so much. Wonderful mod. One question. Is there a scientific way, or factual way to determine page hits from day one. I am more concerned about having an accurate number for page hits.
My forum stats:
Site Startup Date: April 13, 2006
Threads: 6,662, Posts: 85,970, Members: 2,167
I tried using http://www.dnscoop.com/ but really no help.
Any ideas how to determine page hits from the start up day April 13 ,2006, on a small gaming site.
www.evilterritory.com http://evilrtcw2.com/forums/ After installing and starting at 0, page hits were at 76 in about 2 hours. Sorry I seem to be clueless

The way I got mine as accurate as possible was to get the all time statistics from AWStats in cPanel.

There is no exacting way that I know of. You should be able to get close with some averages. You can take the 76 you have and times that by 12 and that will give you a daily average. Then just times that by how many days it has been and that should get you close enough for a starting count.
The way I got mine as accurate as possible was to get the all time statistics from AWStats in cPanel.
Not everyone has CPanel. But that is a good idea for those that do. ;)

Sorry, everyone, I won't be releasing any updates for this mod with the averages here. It seems my hacks have somehow magically started showing up on other sites that do not have permission to host them. I won't give them any more code than they already have. You can all thank whoever has been uploading them for this new policy.

Any ideas why this is like this?
Site Startup Date: June 05, 2006
Site Age: 2 years 10 hours 36 minutes 13 seconds
Says the site is 2 years old yet the startup date is tomorrow.
Boofo
06-04-2008, 01:45 PM
Look at the year on the startup date. How can that be tomorrow?
SVTCobraLTD
06-04-2008, 01:47 PM
Today is June 4th which would make the site only 1 year and 364 days old.

So how do I make this correct? Otherwise it is going to be off and kinda defeats the purpose.
Don't get me wrong, its a great addition to vB because members then know how long the site has been around.
Boofo
06-04-2008, 02:02 PM
It counts the seconds and goes from there. It uses 365 days as a year. There is no way to correct it unless you rewrite the whole javascript file for it and that wouldn't be worth the hassle to me. It doesn't defeat any purpose to me the way it is. ;)

Installation Instructions:
1. Upload life_status.gif to the images/misc folder on your site.
Did this but still have "?" for the image. What did I do wrong?
2. Upload site_life.js to the clientscript folder on your site.
Done, but mine doesn't break it up in days, weeks, etc etc like the demo?
------------------------------------------------------
3. In the includes/config.php file add this at the bottom:
------------------------------------------------------
if(THIS_SCRIPT == 'index')
{
global $specialtemplates;
$specialtemplates = array_merge($specialtemplates, array('boofocounter'));
}
Can we explain this a little more. I think I did it, but not sure if I was correct. How do you do this?
-------------------------------
4. Go to your Admin CP
Scroll down to 'Plugin System'
Click 'Manage Products'
Click 'Add/Import Product'
Click the 'Browse' button, and locate the product-site_lifestatus.xml file on your computer
Done......... easy part!
5. Go to your Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Help Site Life Status and set the following options:
--Site Life Status Enable: Enable/Disable the Site Life Status.DONE
--Site Life Status Startup Date: Enter your site startup date.DONE
--Site Life Status Automatic Template Replace: Click yes to have the template automatically edited.DONE
--Update the page views counter to the value below? If you want to change the current page views counter value on forumhome to the value provided below, set this to "Yes" - it will automatically be reset to "No" once the new value has been set (at the next page view).HUH?
--Site Life Status Forumhome Page Views Counter: Enter the number of page views, without commas, to start the page views count at. (Example: 16897)DONE
Can anyone assist me please, also will this count the portal page hit aswell? Or do I have to put one on there aswell?
