Notification of new posts while replying?

Is there any hack out there that can do this? Say for instance, if you click the reply button and you are typing a message, but someone makes another post while you are writing/replying, it lets you know before you hit submit.

I have searched a dozen pages and cant find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

It would need AJAX. I know what you're talking about, though (I've seen it in phpBB, but only when you push submit).

It could prove a useful hack. It would definitely require ajax and would basically need to fetch the information from the 'posts' table. I may look into this.

I have no idea about the requirements or coding, im not good on that end....a user asked me about the feature and said it was indeed being used on a phpbb board, so i figured someone had attempted it here.

Please let me know if you find or come up with anything.
