How do I Change setting for Forum Statistics

I would like to change the setting for when Welcome New Member does not show new member until after Admin/Moderator account validation. It shows new Member now when e-mail verification has not even been completed.

Is there a way to change this setting?

No, there is no setting to do that. You would have to modify the code.

Is there a code modification that you can point me towards? I am a newby to this code writing stuff. Learning as I go.

I do have certain types of Member names not allowed, but some of these names that the spammers come up with are just ridiculous.
