Hi all,

I recently stopped the use of Yahoo! email addresses on my site because of the current problem were having. Now, I keep receiving a bounce back email on one email address from a member. They have now changed their email address, yet I still keep receiving them -- saying a new post was made. It's a little behind, but any ideas how to stop this?

Regards Jason :)

I think this may be a server setting. My mail application on my server is set to keep trying for 5 days (I think). So, yours probably has a similar setting and will stop trying to send the email at that time. I think you can also find these 'not successfully sent' emails in a folder on your server and delete them.

No, the emails are behind. It's a topic notification, and the member who's email it is as posted a lot -- since she has changed it -- I am receiving all the old notifications that haven't reached her. I just want to be able to stop them.

go into her profile and disable Messaging & Notification options

(you may want to let her know that's what you did; and, suggest that she updates her email)

Yes, she's updated her email...but I'm receiving email notifications from her old email and from posts that are a few days old.

I'm looking at my webserver in the /mail directory. What folder would I find these bouce back emails in?

Regards Jason :)

Do you have any sort of cPanel type application that you use on your server? I use webmin and in the Sendmail options, I have it set to keep trying to send an email for 5 days. I think that is the default cuz I don't recall ever changing it. I'm not sure exactly where I would find that config file on the server. I'd have to go searching for it.

Yes, I use cPanel. I am receiving emails from posts that are a few days old -- but when it's got to the final post she made using that email, I won't receive anymore. But, I just want to be able to stop the now, since they are very annoying.

Yahoo is a pain with vB. I email them all the time back and forth and they are saying my ip is white listed yet I am still getting bounced emails.

It's come to the point where I have to disallow the use of Yahoo! emails, unfortunately. When members sign up with one, they never receive the activation email and I always get bounce back emails. Yahoo! are now appearing to "greylist" (http://www.ahfx.net/weblog.php?article=107) all emails that go through their mail server. The emails are being deferred -- and it happens mostly on a shared hosting account. I understand it stops spam, but what about the legit sites out there?

Hey Jason, I just came across this modification. I'm not sure if it's of interest to you: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=138884

Thanks Lynne, will look into it. I'll drop my host an email, they should be able to stop it.

Have you contacted Yahoo? I have emailed them several times and supposally the IP is whitelisted. I do not get as many bounced emails as before but still are getting some.

Yes, still awaiting a reply. However, they cannot whitelist IPs that host multiple accounts (shared server).
